- Edgar Morin was born on July 8, 1921 in Paris, France. He is a writer and producer, known for Chronicle of a Summer (1961), The Hour of Truth (1965) and Lest We Forget (1991).
- Member of the 'Official Competition' jury at the 26th Venice International Film Festival in 1965.
- His many books and publications include two early sociological books on cinema: "Le cinéma ou l'homme imaginaire" (1956) and "Les Stars" (1957).
- Co-directed the groundbreaking documentary Chronicle of a Summer (1961) together with ethnographer Jean Rouch and coined the now popular term Cinéma Vérité in one of his texts shortly before the film was produced.
- Famous French sociologist and philosopher.
- Morin was one of a group of French intellectuals, which also included Mauriac and Sartre, who formed a committee of action against the war in Algeria, in November of 1955.
