The Challenge two-time champ Mark Long has competed on the reality TV competition show since its second season in 1999. He remembers when T.J. Lavin became the host, referring to it as “a breath of fresh air.”
Mark Long called T.J. Lavin a ‘breath of fresh air’
Host T.J. Lavin has presented the reality competition series since its 11th season, The Gauntlet, in 2005. Og Mark Long, who began appearing in the second season and won twice before the Las Vegas native became the host, has seen several people attempt the job, including skier Jonny Moseley, the late BMX rider Dave Mirra, and himself alongside Real World star Eric Nies.
However, when T.J. entered the picture, Mark called him a “breath of fresh air” because it seemed like the reality TV host cared in a February 2023 interview with the Challenge Mania podcast.

Saturday, the 27th of September in 2014, marks the beginning of Saturday Night Live’s 40th season. In the first 39 seasons, 768 episodes have come and gone with hundreds of different hosts. Many of those hosts have been invited back, with Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin, and John Goodman each hosting more than a dozen times each. The 40th season will begin with a trio of first-time hosts: Chris Pratt, star of NBC’s Parks and Rec and this summer’s blockbuster movie Guardians of the Galaxy; Sarah Silverman, comedian and former writer at SNL; and Bill Hader, one of the most popular former-cast members of the last decade. Will they be invited back after their initial show?
That’s almost impossible to predict, as the show’s history includes many hosts who performed at 30 Rockefeller but one time, and never returned to host again. Some, like Martin Lawrence, Adrien Brody, and Steven Seagal...

The Great British Bake Off has a lot to answer for. Since it became a weird hit, we've had the format applied to sewing and hairdressing... and now it's about time gardening had a go. Enter The Big Allotment Challenge, which starts tonight. But what is it all about? Read on to find out.
What is the idea behind The Big Allotment Challenge?
The show sees nine duos (friends, parents and children, partners and so on) taking on an allotment each and cultivating flowers and produce. After months of gardening, the challenges begin - with each episode featuring a grow challenge (produce a sterling veggie), a make challenge (flower arranging) and an eat challenge (make a tasty preserve). Each instalment also sees one duo saying a sad goodbye.
Well, who's on it then?

The Big Allotment Challenge: BBC Two, 8pm
Fern Britton hosts a new show where nine pairs of gardeners compete to produce the best fruit and vegetables from their allotment. Filming took place over several months, so throughout the six-part series, the cameras will flit back and forth to show the contestants' progress. While they play the long game with their gardening, the competitors are also tasked with more immediate tasks, such as flower arrangement and production of jams and jellies.
Gardening experts are on hand to judge the hopefuls: Royal Horticultural Society judge Jim Buttress, floral designer Jonathan Moseley and food writer Thane Prince will give their verdicts on the efforts and decide which of the teams will have to leave the competition.

Let’s not mince words. Russia’s Adelina Sotnikova owned the night. Seemingly out of nowhere, the Russian figure skater became a podium contender (not to mention EW’s Olympic Stud of the Day) on Wednesday. With Thursday’s finals, she proved she was worthy of the title once more.
As was only appropriate, Sotnikova’s path to victory started with some no-joke training methods:
Though Sotnikova didn’t smack — or at least wasn’t filmed smacking — the rink’s wall before her free skate like she did before the short program, the 17-year-old was nonetheless impressively intense as she landed doubles,...

Forget all the cha cha cha-ing on Strictly and Louis Walsh's silliness on X Factor. The No.1 reality TV show of 2013 was most definitely the Great British Bake Off.
Making stars of its contestants and pulling in stupendously large ratings, it is a pop culture phenomenon and every TV commissioner in the land is looking for the "next Bake Off". Here are just a few of the shows hoping to match the success of Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood in 2014.
The Great Interior Design Challenge
The Premise: We really need to find Britain's keenest amateur interior designers. Of course we do.
The Talent: Architecture and design critic for The Times Tom Dyckhoff leads the hunt and is joined by judges Daniel Hopwood, award-winning architect and interior designer, and Sophie Robinson, ex-editor of BBC Good Homes and Interior Designer. Niche is the word you're looking for.

There was a chill in the air of a Midtown Manhattan TV studio when taping began for last night’s The Challenge: Rivals II reunion show — and it wasn’t the oncoming fall. He might be flat on his back on his couch with a fever, but host Matt Iseman is pushing through to talk about the new season of the obstacle-course competition show "American Ninja Warrior."
"It's just bigger and badder," he tells Zap2it. "It's crazy what they've been coming up with."
Once again, G4 (soon to rebrand as Esquire Network) and its corporate sibling NBC are sharing the run of the show, with "American Ninja Warrior" launching Sunday, June 30, on Esquire and Monday, July 1, on NBC. Original episodes air on each network.
Iseman returns for his fifth season as host of the show. Joining him for color commentary is a new face, former NFL player and NFL Network sports analyst Akbar Gbaja Biamila, replacing former co-host and Olympic freestyle skier Jonny Moseley.
"Believe me," says Iseman, "I had to practice for about a week and a half just to pronounce his name.

Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows CEO on 'Undercover Boss': Jonny Moseley keeps Andy Wirth under cover
Andy Wirth, president and CEO of ski resorts Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows in California, was the titular boss in this week's episode of popular CBS reality series "Undercover Boss." As part of the show, which gives high-ranking executives an inside look at what it's like to be one of their employees, Wirth worked in the ski patrol, as a snowboard instructor, and as an employee on his terrain park.
"Ever since I started as CEO, I have focused on spending time on the mountain with our guests and staff engaging in the experience," said Wirth in a statement. "I saw this as a great opportunity to work with our team, side-by-side on a very real level. I came away from the experience incredibly proud of our hard working employees and honored to be a part of this extraordinary team."

Zap2it: What athletic mentality is best for prevailing in this week's big "Americna Ninja Warrior" finale at the American Mount Midoriyama obstacle course at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas?
Jonny Moseley: On this course, you have to have an incredible degree of adaptability, that kind of "dude" mentality, because you don't know what the obstacles are going to be. Even if you watch competitors from the side, it's different for you. And these guys are under time pressure. How quickly can you make a judgment, then stick to that execution, and how good is that judgment?
Zap2it: You won an Olympic gold medal [Nagano, 1998] for freestyle skiing. Are other skiers attempting the course?
Jonny Moseley: I haven't seen any skiers that I knew. You'll probably start to see some. You remember that show "The Superstars"? (It pitted athletes from different disciplines in an all-around competition.) I got...

Zap2it: Next week, "American Ninja Warrior's" finale airs on NBC. What can we expect?
Matt Iseman: We've narrowed it down to the Top 100 competitors, and now we do the finals in Las Vegas. At Mandalay Bay, we rebuilt Mount Midoriyama, down to the inch. Three football fields, it's taking up. It looks insane. We'll run everyone through the course.
Zap2it: What sort of athlete is good at running the "Ninja Warrior" obstacle course?
Matt Iseman: It's cross-training. I think this is the most difficult athletic feat of any competition of any sport. If you look at it, Mount Midoriyama is such an ultimate challenge. It takes an all-around athlete. You have to have the agility, the upper-body strength, the endurance. You have to have the cerebral component to be able to manage it. You only get one shot at it.

NBC premiered one of its fun summer shows Monday night (May 21) - "American Ninja Warrior," the Japanese import show that puts contestants through an obstacle course that makes "Wipeout" look like elementary school field day.
The premiere episode focused largely on a qualifying event in Santa Monica, Calif, where a group of men (women are allowed to compete, there just weren't any) were put through their paces on obstacles like cargo climbs, the Devil's steps, the salmon ladder and the warped wall. There were only a handful of competitors who actually finished.
Our favorite competitor was definitely Kelvin Antoine, a 53-year-old grandpa of six who didn't finish the course, but dayum - he's 53!
The announcers need a little help - Matt Iseman and Jonny Moseley were doing the play-by-play and at times, we felt like we were watching "Best in Show." In fact, Fred Willard would probably be a better...

This meant that Bethenny faced actress Rebecca Budig in the finale. Their scores would determine the winner. And so, the first-ever winner of 'Skating With the Stars' is ...

The first-ever 'Skating With the Stars' champ was named tonight and awarded a pair of golden skates.
Judge Johnny Weir opened up the show with a "fabulous" (to quote host Vernon Kay) caged bird routine choregraphed by fellow judge Laurie Ann Gibson.
Among the returning skaters, third place Jonny Moseley seemed to have entirely lost his mojo, stumbling several times during his routine, but finishing with a smile.
So, who took home the golden skates -- soap star Rebecca Budig or reality queen Bethenny Frankel?

Bethenny Frankel failed to take the trophy of "Skating with the Stars" for it was snatched by "All My Children" star, Rebecca Budig. In the December 21 finale of the new reality competition show, Budig scored a perfect 10 in her performance while Frankel took in 51 out of 60.
"I owe all of this to [professional partner] Fred [Palascak], who is an unbelievable teacher. I've said it a hundred times, but honestly, I owe it all to him," Budig said after her win. "This is such a shock! I can't believe it."
After five weeks, Budig and Frankel were in the final two. Judges said that Budig had "the mark of a champion" and is "a world class skater" but they also praised Frankel for her willingness to improve her skill and for being a fighter.
The finale included also performances from each of the previously eliminated contestants such as third placer Jonny Moseley.

It's remarkable how long 5 weeks can feel.
The first -- and, let's be honest, probably the only -- season of ABC's "Skating With the Stars" came to a close on Dec. 21, crowning "All My Children" star Rebecca Budig as its champ.
It's only slightly surprising, given her domination of the competition and perfect score for her last routine, but Jonny Moseley's elimination on the eve of the finale did seem to turn the tide in runner-up Bethenny Frankel's favor.
Budig shares her handsome silver-covered skate trophy and partner Fred Palascak.
So did the right woman win? Did you even watch? And if not, why are you reading this?...
