Henry Cavill passed on the iconic role of Superman to David Corenswet as part of the new reboot under James Gunn with Superman: Legacy slated to be the first film of the new universe. In the months that have followed since the announcement, a first look, release date, and various new details regarding the plot have surfaced that might just give an edge to the new flick.

On the other side of the coin, like any fresh start, there could be hiccups along the way. Despite Gunn’s vast experience in film-making and his determination to make his first movie in the new Dcu a grand success, there lies one reason for fans’ apprehension.

Following the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ Dceu is officially over and Gunn’s Dcu is ready to take over the reins as the next big cinematic universe featuring DC’s characters. ‘Creature Commandos’ is the first project to be released as a part of Dcu, but both Gunn and Safran confirmed that the true beginning is ‘Superman: Legacy.’
Gunn frequently reveals information regarding the development of his so-far favorite projects. He often clears up some details regarding the production of the movie. He cleared up that the development so far is going “swimmingly” as sets are being built, costumes are finished, and actors are adjusting to their roles. One fan took the opportunity to ask Gunn how much the cast he has locked in for ‘Legacy,’ and Gunn was vague in answering but confirmed that it’s more than 90 % but less than 100%, meaning that not all characters have actors attached to them,...

In 2002, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland teamed up to make the British horror film "28 Days Later," and the zombie genre was changed forever. Sure, we can argue whether or not those infected with the rage virus are truly zombies until we're blue in the face, but that discourse is as stale as those still fighting to prove "Die Hard" is a Christmas movie. By taking the social commentary of George A. Romero's zombie films that came before, injecting the story with the bleak stillness of a post-apocalyptic London, and incorporating zombies that move at a breakneck pace — zombies were scary again for the first time in decades.
2007's "28 Weeks Later" saw Boyle and Garland step back into a producer capacity, and although the film certainly has its defenders (myself included), fans have been frothing at the mouth for a return of the magic Boyle/Garland collaboration. Now,...

Rapper Ynw Melly’s double murder trial has been declared a mistrial after a Broward County jury in South Florida failed to reach a unanimous decision.
After 19 days of hearing arguments, Judge John Murphy declared a mistrial. Ynw Melly, real name Jamell Demons, faced two first-degree murder charges in the Oct. 26, 2018 killings of 21-year-old Anthony Williams and 19-year-old Christopher Thomas in Miramar, Florida.
Closing arguments were delivered on Thursday. The jury deliberated for two full days, during which it asked to review some of the evidence. But it was still unable to reach a decision.
Demons, now 24, pleaded not guilty and faced a possible death sentence if convicted.
The case centered on a post-recording session incident. Demons, Williams, and Thomas were riding in a Jeep driven by Cortland Henry, known as Ynw Bortlen, after a recording session in Fort Lauderdale. That’s when prosecutors claimed Demons fatally shot Williams and Thomas.

Pop singer-songwriter Kesha is back with her fifth studio album, “Gag Order,” which comes three years after her last effort, 2020’s “High Road.” It was released on Friday, May 19, and the early reviews have been highly favorable, adding up to a MetaCritic score of 82 as of this writing. What do you think of the collection?
If her score holds at 82, it would outdo the 81 she received for 2017’s “Rainbow,” her comeback album following a protracted legal battle over her accusations of sexual assault against her former producer Dr. Luke (“Gag Order” is the last album she will release under contract with his label). But it must be noted that the 81 for “Rainbow” was based on 27 reviews, while only five have come in for “Gag Order” as of this writing.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn is a music connoisseur and personally selects the film's soundtracks. These needle drops blur the line of diegesis; Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) owns a Walkman (and later a Zune) and the songs in the first two movies are all from mixtapes gifted to him by his mother. "Guardians of the Galaxy" introduced us to the adult Quill by having him dance around the barren planet Morag, listening to "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone — perfectly capturing both Star-Lord's space cowboy persona and the film's retro musical taste.
Speaking to Absolute Radio, Gunn said he picks songs not because they're his personal favorites but because they fit the movie. "Vol. 2" features "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac, and the song's refrain of "keep us togethe," reflects the struggles of the Guardians to stay together despite their own flaws pushing them apart.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Leftovers” through Season 3, Episode 5, “It’s a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World.”]
Immediate Reaction
When Damon Lindelof said “The Leftovers” had “more dongs than ‘Game of Thrones,'” oh boy did he ever mean it. Even before the massive, 11-hour, seaward orgy began, “It’s a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World” kicked off with a buck naked French sailor running full speed down the narrow corridors of his ship, his penis bouncing between his legs in slow-motion. Rarely has the male body been celebrated so thoroughly on television, and we applaud the feminist spirit of Lindelof and director Nicole Kassell, who made sure for every bare-breasted woman with only a lion’s tail covering her backside, there was a man whose front-side tail was given the same unflinching attention.
But even more than the equality, we remain impressed — perhaps more so than ever — with how well “The Leftovers” blends absurdity with substance. Among the people in headdresses and people getting eating by lions (Ok,...

If there’s one film you need to see this weekend, it’s Kingsman: The Secret Service. It’s funny, it’s fast-paced and it’s one insane, entertaining experience. Catch this one in the theater and with a crowd!
Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass, X-Men First Class), Kingsman: The Secret Service tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.
Composers Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and Matthew Margeson score the spy action adventure comedy. This is the second collaboration between Jackman and Margeson, who had worked previously on Kick Ass 2. The duo supplied the soundtrack for the star-studded Kingsman with Oscar winners Colin Firth and Michael Caine, Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson, and newcomer Taron Egerton.

Ivan's latest column explores what music can tell us about a character through two new UK soundtrack releases
Music is a powerful thing. It can be used to express authority or portray identity. The very act of playing music defines us, as both performers or listeners. That relationship we have with it makes for two extremely powerful soundtracks currently accompanying movies in UK cinemas: Inside Llewyn Davis and 12 Years a Slave.
Inside Llewyn Davis
"Play me something from Inside Llewyn Davis," manager Bud Grossman (F. Murray Abraham) challenges Oscar Isaac's lead in the middle of the Coen brothers' film. Llewyn responds with The Death of Queen Jane, an old ballad from the 1500s that recounts the tale of King Henry losing his wife, Jane Seymour, to gain a son. It's not a happy song.
It's also a clear statement from Llewyn: he's not afraid of sadness.

Once Hollywood finds a motif they like for movie trailers, they stick with it. Clint Mansell's "Lux Æterna" from "Requiem for a Dream" and John Murphy's "Sunshine (Adagio in D Minor)" are just a couple of score pieces that seem to get trotted out every couple months for yet another piece of advertising. And recently, another selection has joined those ranks: the Braams created by Hans Zimmer for Christopher Nolan's "Inception." In fact, we even pointed out 10 Trailers That Use & Abuse that sound. But how does the composer himself feel about it? “Oh, it's horrible!” he told Vulture. “This is a perfect example of where it all goes wrong. That music became the blueprint for all action movies, really. And if you get too many imitations, even I get confused!” While he notes he has "a degree" of control as to when or where it's sampled, he...

The wait is over! After countless festival screenings and a blockbuster debut Stateside, Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity is finally initiating its landing sequence for UK shores. The Sandra Bullock-George Clooney thriller has already been declared the greatest space film ever made by a certain James Cameron, and it's following in a long line of movie masterpieces that have embraced the infinite celestial darkness.
Digital Spy takes a look at 9 space movies we think are essential viewing ahead of Gravity's release on November 8. Before you read on, it's best to establish the ground rules: these are all films that in some way feature men, women or robots of Earth exploring space. Star Wars is strictly fantasy so doesn't make the list and Moon misses out because, well, it mostly takes place on the moon!
Our pre-Gravity recommendations (in no particular order) and where to watch them are as follows.

We're sure you've already caught it by now but yesterday saw the arrival of the fantastic new official trailer for Bryan Singer's upcoming 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'. The time travel trailer makes for an exciting two minutes and twenty seconds, featuring nearly every character of note, with a couple of spine-chilling tunes thrown in for good measure borrowed from the soundtracks of John Murphy's 'Sunshine' and Hans Zimmer's 'The Thin Red Line'. The impressive lineup in the new installment features a whole array of 'X-Men' past and present which sees former franchise cast members as well as a few new faces standing side by side. Some of which include Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy ('Wanted'), Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellen ('The Hobbit'), Jennifer Lawrence ('House at the End of the Street'), Halle Berry ('Gothika'), Anna Paquin ('True Blood...

If the upcoming Ya adaptation “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” has made one positive move in its lead up to release, it's sourcing John Murphy's excellent “Sunshine” theme heavily over the top of every trailer thus far. The actual film is another matter entirely, but alongside a featurette introducing newcomers to author Cassandra Clare's supernatural world, a new five-minute clip from the film has given us our first real look at the final result. The film stars Lily Collins as Clary Fray, a young New York girl who discovers she comes from a demon-hunting line of Shadowhunters, and a new extended clip shows her first confrontation with both sides of good and evil. It begins with Clary's mother (Lena Headey) getting absolutely pummeled around a kitchen (bloodlessly, of course) by a demon in Kevin Durand form, and then shifts to Clary's attempts to help with the aid of dashing,...

The general consensus regarding Danny Boyle’s 2007 flick Sunshine is as follows; thoughtful and atmospheric set up, promising narrative with originality and good characterization and mood, then dumped on its ass by an off-tangent mood swing of a climax, resorting to slasher horror suspense instead of its distinct brainy sensibilities. Considering the fact that Boyle is one of the most celebrated current Directors on the circuit, this apparent misstep wasn’t just galling to many – it was an unintelligible creative choice. In the blink of an eye, one with cataracts belonging to a brain suffering a severe migraine, the film opted from 2001 to Event Horizon. Considering how many questions Alex Garland’s script poses, there’s no harm in asking another; what if it didn’t mess it up at all? What if it just went all metaphysical and transcended from philosophical musings to mind bending presentation of quasi-reality? What if the problem,...

There's a tiny moment in Danny Boyle's 2007 sci-fi thriller Sunshine in which Michelle Yeoh's biologist finds a tiny green plant growing from the ashes in her spaceship's oxygen-supplying botanical garden that was burnt to a crisp. As Boyle explained to this writer at the time: "It's a very potent image, I think, a regeneration out of the ashes."
The same could be said of the movie itself. Upon release, this tale of a group of scientists trying to save the Earth by reigniting a failing sun failed to shine at the box office or make a significant cultural impact. Yet it was recently described as the Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting director's "most misunderstood and underrated film" by influential critic Mark Kermode in his BBC blog.

Daft Punk lent their spiky, distinctive sound to Joseph Kosinski's Tron: Legacy in 2010, and for the director's latest offering - the Tom Cruise-led sci-fi Oblivion - he's switched to another prominent French electronic act: M83.
Anthony Gonzalez's group have always had a touch of the cinematic about them, their buzzing pop soundtracking everything from a Cloud Atlas trailer to Made in Chelsea. Whereas Daft Punk's Tron album felt like a separate entity in its own right (and in truth, much better than the film it derived from), the Oblivion score deftly jigsaws into the blockbuster spectacle. Alongside Quentin Tarantino, Danny Boyle is one of the few filmmakers who knows exactly how to meld sound and image to enhance the moviegoing experience. The Oscar-winning director sent Ewan McGregor storming down a Scotland street for Trainspotting to Iggy Pop, while Cillian Murphy wandered through the deserted streets of London in 28 Days Later to the eerie sound of Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
Boyle's latest movie Trance is an equally memorable sonic experience, as the director continues his working relationship with Underworld's Rick Smith. To mark the film's release, Digital Spy has picked out 10 great songs or musical tracks from Danny Boyle's back catalogue.

As the somewhat sleazy Homicide Detective Stephen Holder on The Killing, actor Joel Kinnaman plays a character who investigates death. For his next feature film role, he.ll be the one witnessing it. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kinnaman is close to signing on for the Warner Bros. crime thriller All Nighter, which was formerly titled Run All Night after being titled All Nighter to begin with. He.ll play Liam Neeson.s son in the film, which will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a spec script written by Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace). Beyond his TV work, the Swedish-born Kinnaman was most recently seen in the romantic comedy Lola Versus, as well as the crime drama Safe House with Denzel Washington. "Twilight" is done, "The Hunger Games" is off and running, and Hollywood is itching to find a new Ya franchise to pin their bank accounts one. Warner Bros. flopped earlier this month with "Beautiful Creatures," a supernatural Southern Gothic spin on the romance between an otherworldly creature and a human, and now "The Mortal Instruments" will take a crack at trying to get a tweenage audience all hot 'n bothered. And to help get across that epic feeling, the first trailer for the film lays John Murphy's "Sunshine" theme liberally over top, while once again a young woman (Lily Collins) holds the key to destiny/survival/whatever for some extravagantly wardrobed and tattooed dudes, with swords, flames and fighting galore. Unlike "Beautiful Creatures," this one is coming out of the gate promising more action with less emphasis on mood. But unless you're already invested in these stories, it's a hard sell,...

Quentin Tarantino's use of pre-recorded songs comes under the spotlight in Ivan's latest Music in Film...
“I don’t normally use original score. I don’t trust any composer to do it.”
That’s Quentin Tarantino in a nutshell: his love of music rivals his love of film. A new Tarantino album is now an event in itself, so it’s hard not to devote an entire column to the director with Django Unchained in cinemas.
Eclectic is the word most used to describe Tarantino’s soundtracks, which hop around his record collection like an excited teenager who just snuck into his parent’s bedroom. Django is no exception, but marks the largest amount of original music in any of his films to date.
Just how big a deal is that?

Well, this isn't all that surprising, but if it ain't broke, why fix it. Danny Boyle and electronic music veterans Underworld have never been too far apart. The director has used choice cuts of theirs for the soundtracks to "The Beach" and "Trainspotting," and the musicians soon took on a larger role, co-composing the score to his trippy sci-fi flick "Sunshine" (with John Murphy), and tuning up his "Frankenstein" stage show before being named musical directors of last year's London Olympics, where Boyle delivered a dazzling opening ceremony. And he's rung them up again. Well, half of them. Rick Smith from the group will be scoring Boyle's imminent thriller "Trance." Starring James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel, the film tells the story of an assistant at an auction house (McAvoy) who masterminds a heist and teams up with a gang of thieves led by Cassel, only to suffer a blow to the head and.

One thing is for sure: Danny Boyle f---ing loves electronic music duo Underworld (nee Carl Hyde and Rick Smith). After using choice cuts of theirs for the soundtracks to "The Beach" and "Trainspotting" (where their propulsive "Born Slippy" was memorably used at the close of the film), they became full-on collaborators with the filmmaker, co-composing the score to his trippy sci-fi flick "Sunshine" (with John Murphy) and creating the steam punk-y score to his "Frankenstein" stage show that blew our minds earlier this year. Well it seems like he just can't get enough of those guys, as Pitchfork points out that he has just hired them to serve as the musical directors for the opening ceremonies for next summer's 2012 Olympic Games in London. The duo will oversee the music for the three-hour-long opening ceremony, which should now include long distance runners twirling glow sticks and sucking on oversized pacifiers. We.

It’s hard to deny the British electro-band Underworld much of anything after listening to their strange, hard-living soundtrack for Danny Boyle‘s flawed sci-fi masterpiece Sunshine playing against John Murphy’s beautiful score. Boyle clearly has similar feelings, as the group is scoring the music that will play under his upcoming stage play Frankenstein, starring British thespians Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller.
The two actors will switch lead roles (Frankenstein and his Monster) between the two performances at the National Theatre in the U.K. On March 17th Cumberbatch (BBC’s Sherlock Holmes) will play the Monster and Miller (the guy’s been around forever) will play Frankenstein. On March 24th, it’ll be reversed.
Here’s the trailer for the play if you have yet to see it:

Tron: Legacy left me feeling pretty underwhelmed when I saw it opening night in December. (I wasn’t alone: EW’s Owen Gleiberman gave the film a B, and it currently has an unhealthy 49 rating over on Metacritic.) However, I am positively addicted to the Tron: Legacy soundtrack by French techno-gods Daft Punk. It’s a fine addition to an intriguing cinematic canon: Soundtracks that are much, much better than their own movies. Can you think of any others?
I have to point out that I literally listen to the Tron: Legacy soundtrack all the time — at work, at the gym,...

I realize The Secret Of Kells was nominated for an Academy Award in 2009, but technically the film was only released in 2010 and quite frankly I don’t care much for the Oscars. The Secret of Kells remains a feast for the eyes with its meticulous drawings, a throwback to the more stylized, painterly work of decades past. Steeped in magic, history, religion and Celtic mytholosgy, the subject matter may be a tad obscure for American audiences but at least it offers a refreshing alternative to Hollywood fare. Quite unlike anything I’ve ever seen before, The Secret Of Kells features a powerful message, appealing characters and a unique visual style.

Organized by Tommy Tallarico, a video game lover and music composer in the industry, Video Games Live: Level 2 is a loving tribute concert to some of the greatest and most iconic music to come out of the business. Unfortunately, not all games are created equal when it comes to musical accompaniment. Now, depending on which video games you grew up on and spent countless hours completing in the privacy of a dark room with your eyes and ears fixed on the glowing screen in front of you, you’ll have different songs ingrained in your memory as being “classic”. With an eclectic array of films to his credit, director Danny Boyle emerged from his native England to become one of the most celebrated and revered filmmakers of independently-minded cinema. Ever since his emergence onto the world stage with Trainspotting in 1996, Boyle has managed to chart his own unique path without having to bow to studio pressures. Today on Sound On Sight, we’ll take a look back and discuss his not-too-futuristic sci-fi thriller Sunshine and look ahead and let you know what we think of his already critically acclaimed bio pic 127 Hours.

More things happened in the season finale of V than in every other episode of the first season combined. That’s a good thing. V definitely needs to inject some adrenaline into its reptile heart, now that it’s won the “hey, it’s more popular than FlashForward” sweepstakes and will be coming back for a second season. You could still argue that about half the characters in the main cast are extraneous, but you have to admit that the cliffhanger ending left you just a little bit interested in seeing where they take things in season 2.

The Last House on the Left (2009)

When I first saw the original 1972 movie directed by Wes Craven, I remember having mixed feelings after the viewing. I don’t know if I was too young to sit through it or not, but it was so shocking to me that I had to let it develop in my mind over some time before I could come to comprehend it’s shock appeal and greatly appreciate it’s cult status as many fans do. So, two years ago when I heard about this remake, like many fans I was almost in denial about it being tampered with and wasn’t ready to let this movie be at risk of being ruined by a younger generation of Hollywood. It turns out that I was wrong. I will now attempt to explain why “The Last House On The Left...

Fox’s upcoming Wolverine film has not had the smoothest production process. Rumors of the studio meddling with Tsotsi director Gavin Hood have been rampant, and the general vibe from the production has been dour. Given that history, reports of extensive reshoots may be the final blow to fans of the franchise still reeling from X3.
I, however, am a bit more hopeful. I think these reshoots may allow Hood to craft the film he wanted originally, as well as to add that extra polish that X3 was sorely lacking. The initial Comic-con footage for the film looked like a cheesy 80s action film, but the full trailer showed a more epic scope and better realized action. (The Wolvie/Sabretooth throwdown already looks better than his duel with Deathstrike in X2.) The new trailer was certainly helped by John Murphy’s excellent Sunshine score, but it also does a good...

Hopefully, here's a couple of welcome tidbits for our geekier readers to enjoy (however that label goes defined).
Bloody Disgusting pal David Harley pointed out an Amazon link to Canada's legit Region 1 release of Spanish spooker [Rec] in two weeks, on January 27th. This disc will play in American DVD players significantly better than Sony's non-existent release will (besides, if you and they both wait for Quarantine, what's the use of this anyhow?), and in American dollars, it still comes out to about twenty bucks.
Also, after being tied up in legal shenanigans for over a year, John Murphy's haunting score to Danny Boyle's Sunshine is now available on iTunes and bound to play significantly better than that makeshift bootleg of the album that had been making the rounds (thus, I won't bother linking to that here).
Thirdly... well, actually, that's all I've got for now. So, um, yeah.

We’ve written a few times about the soundtrack to Danny Boyle’s latest film, Slumdog Millionaire, while simultaneously referencing the fact that the soundtrack to Boyle’s Sunshine has been stuck in legal hell for quite some time now. In 2007, producer Andrew Macdonald said explicitly that there were “no plans to release” the soundtrack. This was a huge shame, as composer John Murphy put some great work into the film, and Underworld also lent some sublime sounds. Now comes word via The Playlist that the soundtrack has been released via iTunes! You can download the soundtrack by Clicking Here. There are two tracks that I’d strongly recommend: “Sunshine (Adagio in D Minor),” [...]...
