Stevie Wonder closed the multi-hour, all-star Clive Davis pre-Grammy gala with a rousing harmonica performance, a strong vocal delivery and words of positivity.
The icon was joined by Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, Andra Day, Keyshia Cole and Frederic Yonnet for performances of “That’s What Friends Are For” and “What the World Needs Now Is Love,” cutting off the latter song to tell the audience — which included Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and Cher — that “music is love [and] let us use the gift of love that we’ve been given by the Almighty to make a difference in the world.”

When one thinks of the music industry’s biggest night, it may be hard to not also anticipate all the glamorous events and parties leading up to the Grammy Awards. And one in particular has become an annual tradition for decades, making it the go-to spot for A-listers.
Music executive Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy gala has been taking place the night before the awards ceremony since 1976. And the white-hot party is known for its surprise performances and duets, star-studded guest list, and as Davis puts it, its “dazzling audience.”
The Grammy-winning producer even admitted that the guest “demand is the greatest it’s ever been,” which made turning people away even more difficult this year. Especially since he noted this year’s performances will feature a mixture of “great all-time performers, great new performers.”

Iga Swiatek joined an illustrious list of former Wta World No. 1s who scored at least three-digit match wins during their reign at the top of the rankings.
The Pole is the ninth woman ranked as a World No. 1 to score 100 wins at tour level, following her comprehensive straight sets win over China's Qinwen Zheng at the United Cup. The victory propelled her country into the semifinal of the mixed-gender team tournament.
Poland, who entered this year's competition as the odds-on favorites thanks to the exploits of Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz, are two ties away from winning the tournament. They face France in the semis on Saturday at the Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney.
Swiatek, who has yet to lose a match in 2024, has now forged a 14-match winning streak in singles dating back to last year's China Open. She has expanded this exclusive centurion club, which includes Wta legends like Chris Evert,...

Mirra Andreeva unexpectedly found herself in the "Battle of Sexes" match at the 2023 Négométal Open de Bourg-de-Péage.
In 1970s, the term "Battle of the Sexes" was very popular, when Bobby Riggs took on Margaret Court, who he beat 6-2, 6-1, before losing to Billie Jean King 4-6, 3-6, 3-6.
In 1992, Jimmy Connors and Martina Navratilova played in another Battle of the Sexes, with Connors winning the match 7-5, 6-2, and since then, fans were waiting for another match between a player competing on the Wta Tour and the Atp Tour.
And now, on December 17th, 2023, it happened. 16-year-old teenage prodigy, Mirra Andreeva, is competing at the off-season tournament in France, 2023 Négométal Open de Bourg-de-Péage at Complexe Vercors in Bourg-de-Péage, France.

One of the stats of the 2023 Wta season showcased Iga Swiatek's unwavering dominance that cemented her spot as the world's top-ranked woman for the second year in a row.
Swiatek won Roland Garros for a third time in June thanks to an epic win over first-time Grand Slam finalist Karolina Muchova in three pulsating sets. She extended her unbeaten streak in Grand Slam finals to 4-0 and is now part of a very exclusive list of players to achieve this feat.
The 22-year-old from Warsaw is just the third Wta player in the Open Era and fourth overall across both tours to win their first four Grand Slams finals. Swiatek has won more French Opens than Maria Sharapova and Martina Navratilova and has drawn level with Serena Williams.

Iga Swiatek has joined an illustrious list of Wta legends who have previously won the Player of the Year award for at least two consecutive years.
The Polish player was recently crowned the 2023 Wta Player of the Year after another stellar season saw her reign supreme at the summit of women's tennis. It wasn't all plain sailing in 2023 as she fended off multiple challengers for the ultimate crown and briefly lost her No.1 ranking.
The Wta Player of the Year is an award reserved for the best-performing player on tour at the end of every season, and Swiatek deservedly checked this box once again. She won six titles, the most for any woman in singles last season, and finished year-end No. 1 for the second time.

World No. 5 Jessica Pegula and the defending champion Ons Jabeur have signed up to play the 2024 Charleston Open in South Carolina.
The Charleston Open is synonymous with being the oldest all-women's tennis tournament in the United States, having been a staple on the Wta calendar since its inception in 1973 (except 2020 due to Covid-19), the same year the women's governing body was formed.
A host of the world's greatest tennis players on the Wta tour have played and won this tournament in the past, such as Chris Evert (eight-time champion), Martina Navratilova, Tracy Austin, Steffi Graf, Martina Hingis, and Serena Williams.
In 2022, the tournament commemorated its 50th year of staging the event at Daniel Island by unveiling its renovated Credit One Stadium, which offered significant upgrades in seating options and enhanced hospitality experiences.

Martina Navratilova was very brave to come out about her sexuality at a time when it was not as accepted as it is today.
Although same-sex relationships are legal and normal, in the majority of the world, there are still places where it's not legalized. However, only a few years ago, even the most progressive countries were conservative when it came to it.
Former Wta legend Martina Navratilova is part of the LGBTQ+ community, and unapologetically so. She's been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights for a long time and helped so many come to terms with accepting themselves as they are.
It took her a while to do the same because it was highly stigmatized, in some parts of the world criminalized to this day.

Iga Swiatek is racking up achievements by the day, and it's becoming increasingly clear that she's on a path to becoming one of the all-time greats.
Such terms have always been and always will be highly subjective, but you can't deny some of the things Swiatek has been doing. Eras are not comparable in tennis, but that shouldn't take away from any achievement a player has.
For example, Iga Swiatek did something that some other legendary players also did but at a younger age. Does that make it less impressive? Does that detract from his achievement? No, and it shouldn't because it's not something that's not easily done, at any point in tennis history.

At this point, there is no limit to what Novak Djokovic can achieve as he kicks off a race to infinity at the top of the Atp Rankings.

His dominance is not waning despite a gut-wrenching defeat to Jannik Sinner at the Davis Cup Finals last Saturday. Djokovic scored the most Top 10 wins on tour in 2023 with 17 and won almost every big title he competed for.
A fortnight ago, Djokovic secured the year-end No. 1 ranking for an eighth year, beating nearest challenger Carlos Alcaraz to that title. In Turin, it was his top priority as he would reveal during his on-court interview, and became...

Coco Gauff won her maiden Grand Slam trophy in 2023, and Martina Navratilova thinks number two is coming in 2024.
Gauff has had an amazing finish to the 2023 year, and while some would argue that the season was great overall, there were certain moments when the American teenager struggled with her game.
She started with an early trophy but then couldn't play her best tennis on the Wta Tour for some time. It wasn't until the US Open stretch that she found her tennis again and started doing some incredible things.
She won the US Open, which was a hugely important moment for her, but now it's about doing it again. She wants more; she's going to work for more, and according to Martina Navratilova, who talked to Wta, she will get more next year.
I would be surprised if she doesn’t win another major this year, and Wimbledon makes the most sense.

Novak Djokovic's incredible dominance knows no bounds and the Serbian will celebrate a 400th week at the top of the men's rankings.
Djokovic was guaranteed to hit this milestone following his opening round-robin win over Holger Rune at the Atp Finals a week ago. The win earned him the year-end No. 1 ranking for a record eighth time and extended his all-time record for the most weeks at No. 1.
Even by Novak Djokovic's standards, this latest monumental feat is just risible. He has now put the rest of the players on the list in the rearview mirror. Djokovic left Turin with two titles, including a record-breaking 7th crown by winning the tournament.
Djokovic has surpassed several iconic names across both tours including Steffi Graf (377), Serena Williams (319), Martina Navratilova (332), and one of his longtime rivals Roger Federer (310) for the most weeks at No. 1 and by some margin.
In fact, Djokovic has now been ranked No.

Ons Jabeur endured more heartbreak this year by losing in the Wimbledon final, but she's backed to finally get it done in 2024 by former Wta player Martina Navratilova.

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova believes Aryna Sabalenka hasn't hit her ceiling just yet and will be "deadly" if she improves on her movement.

The American didn't qualify for the semi-final, but she looked far more impressive than last year in Fort Worth, where Navratilova also was. It's been a really solid season for the American, who won several trophies, two big ones.
One of those was the US Open, which is the most important one as she finally got her maiden Grand Slam, but also a Wta 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. Therefore, she can now relax and focus on improving as a player.

Novak Djokovic will become the first singles player on either tour to hold onto the No. 1 ranking for an unprecedented 400 weeks following the conclusion of the Atp Finals.
Djokovic needed to dig deep to secure the year-end No. 1 ranking for a record eighth time on Sunday night, defeating Holger Rune in three high-octane sets in his first round-robin match at the Atp Finals. It took him three hours and he held his serve to clinch victory.
Djokovic already holds the record for the most weeks at No. 1 by a singles player, starting his 399th week as of Monday, November 13. He ended Roger Federer's longstanding reign on that front two years ago when he surpassed his tally of 310 weeks. The Swiss is the only other man who has attained the 300-week mark.

Paula Badosa is the latest player from the women's tour who spoke about the controversy surrounding this year's Wta Finals.
The women's year-end championships in Cancun came under intense scrutiny and criticism from pundits and fans. Some of the players who competed at the tournament did not conceal their disapproval and condemned the abject playing conditions and the state of the court.
In fact, the main court for this year's tournament was constructed just a few weeks leading up to the tournament and it was only completed a day before the start of play. The world's top eight singles players and doubles teams had to use makeshift hotel courts during practice.
Tennis legend Martina Navratilova did not hold back in calling out the Wta leadership team, notably the CEO Steve Simon, and stated that a change is needed within the hierarchy. Some of the Wta players who made their feelings known include Aryna Sabalenka,...

Iga Swiatek has been winning a lot of events in the past two years, which means she's been earning a lot of money, and she just passed Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graf in prize money earnings.
Now you might think to yourself, how is that possible? Both Graf and Navratilova have had far better tennis careers than Swiatek, and that's true; however, what they didn't have is the amount of prize money being won in modern times.
The sport is far bigger now than it was back when they played, so everything is bigger. Tickets cost more, TV deals are more expensive, and there is generally more interest in the sport. That all allows for bigger profits that trickle down to the players.
It's not on the level of the Atp clearly but by comparison, it is still far better than it was before. With the recent triumph at the Wta Finals,...

Jessica Pegula had a decent tournament at this year's Wta Finals but was outplayed by Iga Swiatek in Monday's championship match.
The American World No. 5 took to Instagram in the aftermath of her crushing defeat to share her hilarious reaction after falling victim to Swiatek's so-called "Iga's Bakery" after winning just a single game in just an hour of play.
Because Swiatek has regularly won 6-0 and 6-1 sets on tour, tennis fans instituted that name and tend to poke fun at players who fall prey. In fact, there is a famous tennis account on X going by the name "Did Iga Swiatek bagel or breadstick somebody?" to keep up with how many times she wins by the score.
In tennis informal glossary of terms, 6-0 sets are called bagels, while 6-1 sets are called breadsticks. On Monday, Pegula was on the wrong end of a brutal scoreline, being fed a bagel and a breadstick.

Polish channel Canal+ Sport has been brutal in its assessment of the playing conditions at the Wta Finals in Cancun and even dedicated an entire show to talk about it.
The Wta's year-end showpiece event has garnered a massive number of detractors due to its absurd scheduling. A couple of days ago, tennis legend Martina Navratilova questioned Wta CEO Steve Simon's decision-making and called for a change at the helm, preferably a woman.
The Wta Finals has been marred with multiple disruptions due to the weather and players have voiced complaints of the court. Many onlookers and tennis pundits have related the quick logistics of putting the court in one piece in under a week as being the primary cause of strange bounces.

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova believes current Wta CEO Steve Simon should be held accountable for a "sequence of bad decisions" and called for change at the helm.
Navratilova shared her thoughts in light of the fiasco that has engulfed this year's Wta Finals . The decision to stage the premier women's event was made at the 11th hour. And since the players made the trip to Cancun, they've grown increasingly disgruntled every single day with the playing conditions.
In recent weeks, top-ranked Wta stars such as Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, and Marketa Vondrousova have led a player rebellion against the women's governing body . They sent a proposal with a list of demands to Wta offices including guaranteed minimum pay and improved tournament scheduling.

Jessica Pegula started her campaign at the year-end Wta competition with an impressive win over Elena Rybakina .
The 2023 Wta Finals have been in the spotlight for some time already, but not because of good reasons. The stadium, at which the event is held, was unfinished when players arrived in Cancun , and they were not happy about it.
Elena Rybakina was one of the players that wasn't happy and also talked about the situation, but seemingly, all players realized that all they can do is adapt to the situation and try their best.
Ahead of the tournament, Pegula was advised to stop playing it safe by American great Martina Navratilova, but early in the opening match of the 2023 Wta Finals, it seemed that she did not listen.

Martina Navratilova wants to see Jessica Pegula get out of her comfort zone in order to make the next step in tennis.
Pegula has been one of the best tennis players in the world for about two years now. The American has had a fair bit of success but has yet to really make a significant impact on the Wta Tour.
The talent is there, but according to former player Martina Navratilova, she needs to push herself out of her comfort zone. The American is indeed a sort of predictable player because there is very little variety coming from her.
There is plan A, and when it fails, then you don't really see a different plan. According to Navratilova, who previewed her chances ahead of the 2023 Wta Finals for the Wta , she plays it too safe.

Coco Gauff is going to be one of the players to watch at the 2023 Wta Finals , and Martina Navratilova sees her as a threat.
There has been a lot of maturing for Gauff this year as she's finally figured out how to win. It took her a while and didn't happen overnight, though it seemed that way.
Out of nowhere, the American won several big events leading up to the US Open and then did the unthinkable. She beat everybody to win her maiden Grand Slam trophy , which was a huge surprise to everyone.
She did play well, but not many expected her to really go all the way. It was a big thing for her; nobody underestimates her now, especially ahead of the 2023 Wta Finals.
She’s figured out how to win, even when she’s not playing her best tennis. I think she’s got clarity now with the game plan.

Elena Rybakina has had high hopes for this season, and while she had great moments, she's far too inconsistent to Martina Navratilova 's liking.
In all fairness, Rybakina does tend to be quite up and down, even in matches, let alone events. The Kazakhstani player has a really strong game when she's really feeling it, but sometimes, she just gets in her own way. Overall, this year has still been a huge success .
We've seen her lose multiple matches where she was seemingly in control only to lose control and collapse later in the match. Previewing her chances at the Wta Finals, Navratilova described her tennis as steady but not consistent.
It’s a bit of a dilemma. Her game seems steady and consistent, but her results have not been consistent. She’s more unpredictable than I think she should be, given her game. She’s pretty solid technically but...

Martina Navratilova thinks that Iga Swiatek is relieved not to be world number one on the Wta Tour anymore, and there might be some truth to it.

Aryna Sabalenka has a chance to finish this year as world number one, on the Wta Tour, which probably isn't something she expected when the season started.
The season started brilliantly for Aryna Sabalenka who finally won her maiden Grand Slam trophy at the Australian Open . It was the confidence booster that she needed and expectedly her year after that went pretty well.
Some trophies and deep runs didn't equate to another Grand Slam trophy, but she played in the US Open final. Coco Gauff proved too much to overcome , but all of her efforts earned her the number one rank.
According to former player Martina Navratilova , who previewed the 2023 Wta Finals for the Wta, she'll likely finish the year as the world number one, something the American didn't have on her 2023 bingo card.
Consistent enough, but most consistent in the majors, right? That’s where the numbers come in.

Former Wta doubles No. 1 Pam Shriver opined that Stefanos Tsitsipas may have "hit the wall" in his battle to outperform fellow rivals Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner .
In an episode of the Inside-In podcast, Shriver evaluated the Greek's up-and-down 2023 season, which has yielded a few highs, but majorly modest results . Tsitsipas started the year in terrific form, reaching his second Grand Slam final at the Australian Open, and only losing to Novak Djokovic.
But a career-best start dissipated as he struggled to get any sort of momentum going during his brief stop on indoor hard courts in Europe and North America. Tsitsipas, whose sole Atp title this season came on the hard courts of Los Cabos , has won 40 matches on Tour and is grappling with at least five players to clinch the last three spots at the Atp Finals.

Martina Navratilova made a public confession of the steadfast support she received from her old rival and good friend Chris Evert during her fight against cancer.
Navratilova, winner of 18 Grand Slam singles titles, was diagnosed with throat cancer in January . As she underwent tests on her throat, an unrelated early-stage breast cancer was discovered. The tennis icon, who works as a pundit, took time away from tennis-related commitments to focus on a rigorous treatment plan.
In late March, Navratilova announced that she was cancer-free in an emotional interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV. The 66-year-old has now opened up on the unwavering support she received from her former Wta rival, Chris Evert, during the challenging couple of months at the turn of the year.
Navratilova and Evert have shared the tennis stage 80 times - 60 of which were in finals. Their rivalry transcended women's tennis and is synonymously known as the most prolific rivalry in tennis.

According to recent reports, Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova will have a documentary about their rivalry and relationship.
Navratilova and Evert were fierce rivals who battled many times on the court but became really good friends over the years. There are a lot of parallels between the legendary players, starting with their amazing careers and then some unfortunate life circumstances .
It's a fascinating story; according to reports, it will be immortalized in film. EverWonder Studio will team up with Meadowlark Media to produce a documentary detailing the decades-long relationship between Evert and Navratilova, from their playing days on the Wta Tour to much later in life.
According to Deadline , which broke the news, the companies also secured rights for a potential future scrip adaption of the story, so we might also see a film out of it. Both Evert and Navratilova released statements regarding the news, sharing their excitement.

Serena Williams might not be in tennis anymore, but the world keeps spinning, and she turned 42 recently, despite competing on the Wta Tour only recently.
It's been 42 years since we've been blessed with the presence of the 23-time Grand Slam champion on this planet, and she gave tennis enthusiasts around the world a lot over the years.
Widely described as the greatest woman to ever play tennis and one of the greatest tennis players in general, Williams has a long list of achievements, too long, actually. However, we will take a look at some of them to mark this legendary player who bid farewell to the sport in New York one year ago .
First of all, she has 23 Grand Slam trophies. It's not the most in the history of tennis or the most by a woman but her 23 are, according to some, more impressive than Margaret Court’s 24. It's the...

Iga Swiatek is one of the best players in the world right now, thanks to a combination of talent and hard work, something she shares with her idol, Rafael Nadal .
Swiatek was never considered this outragedly talented player who was supposed to win multiple Grand Slams. Yet that's exactly what happened when she became a pro, and she's certainly going to win a few more because her competitive spirit doesn't allow her to rest.
She got her first one as a teenager, stunning several prominent clay experts at Roland Garros. That run was incredibly impressive because nobody really came close to beating her that year. She added one more last year by beating Gauff in the final and one more this year by beating Karolina Muchova in the final .
She won the US Open last year as well, so it's pretty clear that none of this is a fluke. She's talented,...

Martina Navratilova talked about the arrival of a new 'Big Four' in the women's game after Coco Gauff announced herself on the grandest stage by winning the US Open title.
Coco Gauff needed to work hard and come through some hard-fought matches to win her maiden Grand Slam title, with four of her seven matches going the full three sets.
But what Gauff had displayed throughout her title run this fortnight was her ability to work matchups out, problem-solve her way back into matches, and find a way to improve her weaker forehand enough to get over the line.
Lots of tennis legends have had a lot to say about the young American and what this victory means for tennis going forward. Talking to SkySports , Navratilova discussed the change in dynamic at the top of the game, as she expects Gauff to play a big role in the outcome of...

Wta legend Martina Navratilova was dismayed to find Maria Sharapova 's inclusion in a poll determining the best tennis female players of all time.
On Wednesday, a post by World of Statistics on X (formerly known as Twitter) asked users to name the best tennis female of all time in a four-woman shortlist including Serena Williams, Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova and Maria Sharapova.
Navratilova reacted in shock and disdain and responded to the post, hinting Sharapova was unworthy to even be on the list in the first place. The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion asked fans not to bother voting. Although she didn't delve into detail, the list does look extremely skewed, with a handful of names with a more ostentatious tennis CV being left out.
The other three players in the list have each won 18 or more Grand Slam singles titles, while players such as Chris Evert and Wta...

Venus Williams has been far from reaching her top level in her first-round match at the 2023 US Open against Greet Minnen .
When it comes to legends competing on the Wta Tour, Venus Williams is certainly one of the first names that pops up. This year, the US Open is celebrating 50 years of equal prize money , and throughout the years, the 43-year-old American also helped to make sure the progress would be made.
Now, she could make progress by advancing from the first round to the second, but in her milestone 100th match at the US Open, Williams, who was initially set to play Paula Badosa , was far from her top level. Only four women played at least 100 matches at Flushing Meadows, and they are all American, with Serena Williams having 123 matches, Chris Evert 113, and Martina Navratilova 106.
Now, Venus Williams joined this club, but there probably won't be a party to celebrate this achievement.

Wta No. 1 Iga Swiatek created a bit of history on Monday as she became the first Wta player born in the 2000s to earn more than $20 million in prize money.
Swiatek recorded an emphatic victory in her opening match at the 2023 US Open as she thrashed Sweden's Rebecca Peterson 6-0, 6-1 , guaranteeing her at least $123,000 in prize money by reaching the second round of the tournament.
It ensures that the Polish star will cross the $20 million mark in career prize money earned after she started the week with $19,906,763. Swiatek currently ranks 23rd in the Career Prize Money Leaders list, and she'll most certainly break the top 20 if she wins the title, surpassing former No. 1 s such as Naomi Osaka, Martina Navratilova, and Steffi Graf.
Swiatek, therefore, became the first woman born in the 2000s to achieve this landmark, and the second player overall after the men's defending champion Carlos Alcaraz...

According to former legendary player Martina Navratilova , Coco Gauff is ready to receive the torch from Serena Williams .
Coco Gauff was long described as the player who will lead American tennis in the future as Serena Williams once did. It was easy to understand why that comparison was made; they are incredible players in their own right.
It took Gauff a bit more to get to the stage where she's ready, as we've been seeing it only lately. Big trophies like the one won in Cincinnati recently cement her as one of the best, and she's starting to believe it, too. It's the moment everyone was waiting for.
I think she’s ready to [receive] the torch but also I think she realises that there’s some big shoes to fill. So I’m not sure that Coco would be thinking so much on a macro level. American women’s tennis has been in great shape.

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova did not spare Wta No.1 Iga Swiatek , who claimed to be fatigued in the aftermath of her semifinal exit in Cincinnati.
Swiatek lost out to eventual champion Coco Gauff this past week, her first defeat against the young American in eight head-to-head matches. Speaking after the match, the Pole told reporters that she held no regrets about the match despite squandering the first set from a winning position.
Swiatek later added that her 'tank of fuel was pretty empty ', indicating that she was low on energy and fatigued. While she wasn't giving away an excuse for her performance in the match, she was relieved to have additional days off ahead of the 2023 US Open .
But 18-time Grand Slam singles champion Navratilova treated Swiatek with a harsh dose of advice in the wake of those comments. The Tennis Channel commentator spoke to iNews and sympathized with...
