Edwin M. Newman broke the news of the assassination of President John F.
Kennedy to the national NBC Radio audience on Friday, November 22,
1963. He also appeared on NBC television later in the evening with an
editorial commentary in which he described the American people as "grossly diminished" by the tragic events in Dallas.
