More staff cuts?
Bmf has parted ways with planning director Emily Taylor, who has joined Publicis Mojo Sydney.
Her departure comes amid rumours of another series of redundancies – the third round of cuts the agency has made this year, Mumbrella understands.
Jeremy Nicholas, the agency’s CEO, confirmed Taylor’s exit, but said that no redundancies were taking place.
He also said that Taylor was to be replaced by another planner of equivalent seniority in a fortnight’s time.
Sources suggest that Taylor is to be replaced by a planner who was previously made redundant by Bmf.
Mumbrella also understands that Bmf has reduced the amount of space it uses in its building in Pyrmont, Sydney, due to staff cuts. This has not been confirmed by Bmf.
The highly prized Enero asset, whose Sydney office was split into two in November 2011, is believed to have lost around 50 staff since this time last year.

Chris Kay
Chris Kay, the managing partner of Enero creative agency Bmf, is leaving.
According to a statement from the agency, Kay is moving to Europe to an undisclosed role and for family reasons.
His departure brings to an end less than two years at Bmf for Kay, who joined from British soccer club Manchester City, where he was marketing director, in November 2010.
The agency’s boss Jeremy Nicholas said: “We respect and support Chris’ decision and the need to be closer to family. Chris brings energy, drive and passion to everything he does. We wish him the very best in his new opportunity.”
Kay was promoted to managing partner of Bmf’s Sydney office when the agency divided into three about a year ago. He joined the agency as head of account management.
Kay will leave the agency towards the end of the year.

Bmf has won a foothold on the George Weston Foods roster, claiming advertising duties on Burgen and Abbott’s Village Bakery breads.
The Enero agency won the business without a pitch. Other agencies on the George Weston Foods roster include Ddb Sydney.
John Wardley, Gm of marketing and innovation at George Weston Foods said: “Bmf are world class agency and will be a fantastic resource for Abbotts and Burgen. I have had the opportunity to work with Bmf across several different product categories, and each time they have demonstrated an ability to think strategically while delivering a creative breakthrough for the brand. Consumers notice what they do, and it sells.”
Bmf’s CEO, Jeremy Nicholas added: “We’re delighted to be working with the Gwf team. Abbott’s Village Bakery and Burgen are great brands with a real point of difference. They offer a powerful opportunity to deliver work that...

Top Australian ad agency Bmf has made a number of redundancies.
The agency’s boss Jeremy Nicholas said that a “handful” of people have left the agency, attributing the departures to “the changing nature of the skills and structure required across the business.”
He said that those leaving had been offered roles in other areas of the agency, but they had declined these offers.
The last reported redundancies at Bmf came in February as a result of falling client spend.
Bmf has been hiring in other areas of the business, bringing in ex-AdNews editor Danielle Long as brand and content manager, staffing up its new photography studio and bringing in Ricci Meldrum as managing partner in Melbourne from Clemenger Bbdo last month.

Bmf, one of the best ad agencies of the last decade has gone off the boil, argues Robin Hicks.
There is a sinking feeling you get as a marketing trade hack when it is finally appropriate, after months of chronicling their decline, to describe an ad agency as ‘troubled’ in a story you’re writing about them.
Most recently, it was a description applied by pretty much the entire trade press to The (now dead) Campaign Palace.
I should be clear that it is not appropriate to describe Bmf – for many years one of Australia’s leading creative lights – as ‘troubled’. But at the same time, it would struggle to lay claim to currently being Australia’s best agency.
So what can be said about Bmf, one of the most highly prized assets of its owner Enero (née Photon)? Last year it topped the Mumbrella Creative Agency Review which records...

Bmf managing partner Dylan Taylor has left the agency after eight years.
Taylor, a Dm specialist who contributed to the agency’s decade as one of the most respected in Australia, was executive creative director before he took on the managing partner role in November.
He said in a statement: “I have enjoyed my time at Bmf immensely, however time is the enemy of us all and it feels like the right moment for me to pursue other opportunities. I wish everyone at Bmf continued success, it is a great agency.”
Jeremy Nicholas, Bmf’s CEO, said “Dylan has made an indelible contribution to the agency and the industry over his eight years here. All of the Bmf family wish him the very best in the future.”
Bmf client director Stephen McArdle will step up to managing partner. He joined in February from London agency Chi & Partners.

Ad agency Bmf has opened its own production house.
Bmf Studios has been set up to service discount retailer Aldi, but could eventually service other clients – and other agencies – according to Bmf boss Jeremy Nicholas.
The 1200m2 studio will be located in Sydney’s Chippendale, staffed by full-time by photographers, producers and assistants and be open from September. Work will focus primarily on the production of Aldi catalogues.
The agency is currently looking to hire staff for the new venture, with eight job ads posted on Mumbrella today.
“If another agency wants to rent the space, that would be open to negotiation further down the track. But the idea is to service Aldi to begin with,” said Nicholas.
“As an agency, we’re asked to produce more and more content, quickly and effectively, much like a publisher. This is about us producing our own work – but it’s not a...
