When people talk about the gold standard of superhero movies, they are often referring to "Superman." Even after all these years, the 1978 film remains the bar by which all other movies of the genre are judged. From John Williams' iconic score to the pitch perfect casting of Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder — not to mention its groundbreaking special effects — "Superman" truly made audiences believe a man could fly.
"Superman" and its sequel were largely shot back to back and while I do believe the first film is one of the greatest superhero movies ever made, "Superman II" was always my favorite growing up. The 1980 film had a notoriously troubled production, with Richard Donner being replaced by Richard Lester more than midway through -- though Donner's cut was released decades later. "Superman II" really upped the stakes of the first film and part of how it did that was by pitting...

Dino De Laurentiis took a lot of flack for his underwhelming remake of the incomparable 1933 horror classic, which he promoted into a monster-sized hit. Nothing could eclipse the original but the good casting still appeals. An honest ad campaign would have leaned on two points: See Jeff Bridges and Charles Grodin carry an insultingly ugly production like real stars! See ‘newcomer’ Jessica Lange play a sexualized ditz so well that she retains her dignity! …and most importantly, See the biggest special effects fraud ever perpetrated on movie screens! Umbrella Entertainment from Australia puts this one back in print, on Blu-ray.

Bosch, the acclaimed Amazon crime series, received a renewal for Season 5 before Season 4 premiered.
Amazon has got a feeling that it can’t let go... when it comes to the retro-noir contemporary crime procedural series, Bosch, which stars Titus Welliver as the titular troubled Lapd detective. That’s because the retail monolith’s streaming platform renewed the series for Season 5 even before the 2018 debut of Season 4.
As if that wasn't enough, Amazon subsequently gave the show another early nod this past November, confirming that Bosch Season 6 is already a go.
However, we're going to maintain focus here on the fifth season of Bosch and everything we know so far!

P { margin-bottom: 0.08in; }A:link { } One of DC's most respected characters of all time, Superman, is beloved by nearly one and all. The same can't be said, however, for the actor who played Clark Kent in the 1978 feature film Superman and its subsequent sequels. Yep, that's right. Apparently Christopher Reeve didn't leave a fuzzy impression on Jack O'Halloran, who played the villain Non in the first two films, and as a result the actor recently said some not-so-good things about him. It's not necessarily shocking to think Non isn't a big fan of Superman, but we never expected the actor behind the villainous character would actually have any serious problems with The Last Son of Krypton. Turns out we were wrong. Here's what O'Halloran had to say about him in a short chat with TMZ: Christopher was a young young-minded guy. ...

[[tmz:video id="0_js0lkq0s"]] One of Christopher Reeve's former co-stars is making outrageous accusations about his attitude on the set of "Superman" ... and this will blow your mind ... if you believe it. We ran into Jack O'Halloran, who played Non ... the mute villain from Krypton ... and the photog asked him about working with Reeve -- and he ripped into the late actor for being a Prima donna who "believed his own publicity." Now, up front -- we can't...

Christopher Reeve Foundation for spinal cord and stem cell research (photo: Darryl Hannah and Christopher Reeve in 'Rear Window') (See previous post: "'Superman' Christopher Reeve and his Movies: Ten-Year Death Anniversary.") In his 1998 autobiography Still Me, Christopher Reeve recalled: "At an especially bleak moment [prior to an operation that might result in his death], the door [of his hospital room] flew open and in hurried a squat fellow with a blue scrub hat and a yellow surgical gown and glasses, speaking in a Russian accent. For the first time since the accident, I laughed. My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay." The "old friend" was the recently deceased Robin Williams, whom Reeve had befriended while both were studying at Juillard. Eventually, Reeve became a staunch advocate for spinal cord and stem cell research, sponsoring with his wife the Christopher Reeve Foundation — later renamed the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation (and formerly known...

A little over a year from now, the most iconic comic character in history will be back on screens, courtesy of Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel." Seven years on from Bryan Singer's oft-derided "Superman Returns," it'll see "The Dark Knight" mastermind Christopher Nolan producing a new, seemingly darker take on the character, to be played by Henry Cavill with Michael Shannon as his Kryptonian nemesis, General Zod.
But Shannon will have big shoes to fill: the last time the character was on the big screen it was played by Terence Stamp in 1981's "Superman II," still seen by many fans as not only the best take on that character, but the best screen version of Superman to date. Which was impressive, considering it had about as troubled a production history as you could ask for, with two directors, production stretched over two years, and a recent, wildly different reissue of the film.

Though the original Superman movie, the precursor of the modern era of comic book-inspired movies, is often considered a superior movie to its sequel (critics rate it 94% on aggregate review site RottenTomatoes versus 88% for the second movie); among comic book movie fans there's simply nothing that tops seeing Superman (Christopher Reeve) tangle with the three Kryptonian villains: General Zod (Terence Stamp), Ursa (Sarah Douglas) and Non (Jack O'Halloran) in Superman II.
After Bryan Singer's Superman Returns failed to deliver the kind of super-thrills that fans had been clamoring to see in a movie about the world's first superhero, the news that Zod and Ursa — now called by her original comic book name, Faoroa — would be the villains in Zack Snyder's franchise reboot, Man of Steel, was received with nearly universal praise by the fan community. Who better to lead a veteran cast that includes The Highlander, 30 Days of Night hero Eben Oleson and a Canadian scream queen than John Carl Buechler, the man who helmed Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood, Troll and Cellar Dweller?
The director and special effects wizard returns to the captain's chair after a five-year hiatus from directing to oversee the upcoming Dark Star Hollow, a film about a man who makes a deal with the devil to save the life of his wife.
From the Press Release
While best known for directing part 7 in the Friday the 13th series, Buechler's special make-up effects and other works are well known in films like Nightmare on Elm Street 4, Halloween 4 and Trancers. He is also working on a remake of his classic film, Troll, from 1986.

Last week we heard about three actresses who were top contenders for a lead female role in Zack Snyder's take on Superman: Man of Steel. Though Alice Eve, Rosamund Pike and Diane Kruger seem like great love interests for Clark Kent/Superman, apparently their role in question was not that of intrepid reporter Lois Lane. Actually, at the time the news hit, that female role had not been specified. Well, Latino Review may have solved the mystery and learned that the female role one of the three actresses may take is that of Ursa, a villainous vixen of Krypton and accomplice of Superman's arch enemy General Zod. More below! This wouldn't be the first time Ursa has appeared on screen to wage war on Supes. Actress Sarah Douglas played the character alongside Terrence Stamp as Gen. Zod, plus Jack O'Halloran as Non, as the 3 villains who were imprisoned...

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? White Irish Drinkers Trailer It’s not often that I get a slam dunk delivered into my inbox but it happens from time to time...
