Alright, you’ve had your 100% outrage about Emma Stone’s character’s ¼ Hawaiian lineage, you haven’t accepted Cameron Crowe’s mostly apology, and you’re still heated over how bad his latest movie “Aloha” is. The film and its “racial weirdness” may be ill-advised, but we can probably all agree that Cameron Crowe, at the very least, knows how to put together a decent mixtape. While the “Aloha” soundtrack features 19 songs, including a new track written by Sigur Rós' Jónsi and Alex Somers, the full movie contains nearly 60 songs. So on top of cuts by Fleetwood Mac, Beck, Kurt Vile, David Crosby, and more, “Aloha” the movie also features songs by The Who, The Rolling Stones, Mogwai, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, The Gap Band, Tears For Fears, and Daryl Hall & John Oates — Emma Stone and Bill Murray dancing to the last cut might just be the best moment in the film.

Clever wordplay in granola branding? Daryl Hall & John Oates can’t go for that. At least in this case. Hall & Oates — the duo behind hits such as “Maneater,” “Kiss on My List,” “Private Eyes” and “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” — have slapped Early Bird Foods & Co with legal action over the company’s Haulin’ Oats granola, which has clearly left a bad taste in the musicians’ mouths. The suit, filed in U.S. district court in New York on Wednesday, claims that Hall and Oates owns the trademark and service mark rights to the Haulin’ Oats name,...

Hall & Oates thinks the cereal name Haulin' Oats hits a little too close to home. Attorneys for the band's Daryl Hall and John Oates are suing Early Bird Foods & Co. for phonetic play on Daryl Hall and John Oates' well-known brand name, according to a complaint alleging trademark infringement filed in New York. The lawsuit goes on to state other companies have tried "to make a connection between the artists' names and oats-related products," over the years. Beverly Hills — Gregg Alexander is enamored by movies. He grew up in a conservative household where television was "Satan's tool," but he'd sneak off to friends' houses to watch theirs instead. He talks passionately about filmmakers like the Coen brothers, Michael Haneke and Mike Leigh and seems eager to be a part of an industry he finds incredibly efficient. So it's perfectly fitting that he would eventually make his way there via a collaboration on John Carney's "Begin Again," and maybe even more understanding that after 15 years of being relatively reclusive away from touring and the media, he's finally speaking out again in support of the film and his work on tracks like "Lost Stars," which is primed for a Best Original Song Oscar nomination. "It's been exciting and to some degree emboldened me and been a reminder that film and music are amazing dancing partners," Alexander says of his experience.

The 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, airing on HBO Saturday (31) night, features some of the Rock Hall’s stronger performances in recent years. Among the highlights are the remaining members of inductee Nirvana performing with Joan Jett, St. Vincent, and Lorde, as well as Stevie Nicks, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, and Carrie Underwood beautifully saluting inductee Linda Ronstadt in song. In this exclusive clip, Nicks talks about how the ladies’ performance of “When Will I Be Loved” came about — it was a lot looser than you’d think— and has some very high praise for Underwood. Let’s just say she’s glad Underwood wasn’t around during Fleetwood Mac’s formative years. In addition to Nirvana and Ronstadt, this year’s class included Daryl Hall & John Oates, Peter Gabriel, The E Street Band, Cat Stevens and Kiss as performer inductees, and Brian Epstein and...

Outside Lands day three: my legs are cramping, I can’t feel my feet, my face is sunburned and Hall and Oates are about to come on. Suddenly, I’m feeling good. Daryl Hall has noticeably aged looks-wise, but his voice is just as fresh as ever. The most notable songs before their encore were “Maneater” and “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” which included a long and satisfactory guitar breakdown by John Oates. Although their songs are mostly mellow, their energy on stage was captivating. At their encore “Rich Girl” sounded just like the 1977 album version. As Oates...

At a press conference for upcoming San Francisco music festival Outside Lands, The Huffington Post sat down with John Oates, one half of the '70s/'80s smooth rock power duo Hall & Oates.
While we discussed the upcoming show, the solo career and new projects, one question was on everyone's mind: How did Hall & Oates suddenly become so popular with young hipsters?
Haven't noticed the recent hipster resurgence? How about this video of Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum singing their greatest hits?
Or this amazing high school lip dub to "You Make My Dreams?"
Then there's this electronic duo, who released an entire album of Hall & Oates cover songs.
And of course..."Yacht Rock."
In the past few years, Hall & Oates -- who reigned supreme before most of their new fans were born -- has been inspiring movie plots and shows, booking headlining gigs and rocking every karaoke lounge and dance floor coast to coast.

New Orleans — For more than two decades, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival has closed with a performance by the city's own Neville Brothers.
On Sunday, that tradition changed. Aaron Neville performed on a stage with his new band while young brass band frontman Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews closed the festival's biggest stage – where the Neville Brothers once held court the last day.
Andrews and his band, Orleans Avenue, entertained a jam-packed crowd as the festival ended its 2013 run. A sea of faces stretched to the track's back fence.
Neville said he views the closing lineup change as kind of a "passing of the guard.
"Trombone Slim, as I call him, will do a great job," Neville said of Andrews. "I remember when it was Professor Longhair out there and then we did it for a long time. It's time. Slim is a big musician and I'm proud of the way he's handled himself.

Hitler's days are numbered because Danger 5 are on the case, scouring the furthest corners of the globe to unravel Hitler's most sinister plans... Danger 5 is an Australian television series that premiered on the Sbs One network in February, 2012. It's a weirdly hilarious, uchronic pastiche that seamlessly blends the stylized pulp of 1960s action serials (Star Trek, The Thunderbirds) with the kind of alternate-reality, absurd yet historically-inflected humor put forward to great effect in the web series Yacht Rock (except instead of the tyrannical John Oates, Danger 5 employs Adolf Hitler)....

It goes without saying that the comedy singing duo Garfunkel and Oates love Hall & Oates: They adopted half of its membership's name for their band, for Pete's sake. In this latest installment of Vulture and Ucb's "Pop Culture Memory Lane" series, puppets and animation help Riki "Garfunkel" Lindhome and Kate "Oates" Micucci tell the tale of their "Maneater" moment and why it is not recorded for posterity.

Daryl Hall and John Oates are a lot of things—singers, songwriters, exceptional clappers—but they’re not especially political. The season two finale of The Voice was quite the extravaganza as former contestants and a number of today’s biggest artists joined the finalists for the big moment. As predicted, Jermaine Paul took the title at the end of the two hour live finale and what a well deserved win this was. But there was plenty of music leading up to that moment, some good, some bad.
As part of the finale celebration, each finalist chose former artists of the season to perform with on the the stage one last time this season, each individual reminders why Paul was indeed the best person to win. Tony Lucca from Team Adam performed “Go Your Own Way” with Jordis Unga. Lucca not making it into the final two was wildly disappointing but I cannot say that I missed Unga. Never a big fan of hers, last night’s performance did not help her case.

After Christina Aguilera cat fights, some stellar and not-so-stellar performances, and many more Purrfect moments, "The Voice" has crowned its Season 2 winner: Jermaine Paul, representing Team Blake.
Team Cee Lo's Juliet Simms came in second; Team Adam's Tony Lucca came in third; and Team Christina's Chris Mann came in fourth.
Season 2 winner Jermaine -- a former back-up singer for Alicia Keys -- was the last man standing in Tuesday's Season 2 finale on NBC, which boasted celebrity performances, plus more songs from the four finalists and other favorite former contestants.
After hearing "The Voice" host Carson Daly announce his name, Jermaine thanked those important to him and hugged his family members, friends, fellow contestants and the other judges, before taking the stage one last time for an emotional encore performance of R. The lead in to the big finale on The Voice has come and what a thrilling night of performances the finalists gave, fighting for the title. This week, each artist performed a solo, a solo tribute to their coach, and a duet with their coach as the competition reached its boiling point and the artists fought against the other teams rather than within their teams.
Jermaine Paul’s final solo performance of the competition was R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly.” This song worked wonders for The X Factor‘s Melanie Amaro so perhaps this song is a good luck charm this music reality competition season and could be the number that takes Paul to the winner’s circle. Paul’s tribute, to his coach, “God Gave Me You” as well as his duet, “Soul Man” with Blake Shelton were equally as strong. And watching Shelton step into Paul’s shoes,...

Ray Lamontagne, Daryl Hall and John Oates, Big Boi and Kendrick Lamar rock Seattle fest over Labor Day weekend.

Seattle — Nestled in the shadow of the Space Needle, the Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival boasted an eclectic lineup of headliners, with Ray Lamontagne and the Pariah Dogs, Wiz Khalifa, and Daryl Hall and John Oates topping each night of the three-day festival over Labor Day weekend. But it was Wiz who ran away with the biggest draw of the headliners, packing the Seattle Center's Key Arena to capacity on night two.
The Pittsburgh Mc took the stage Sunday night and announced, "My name is Wiz Khalifa. Y'all ready to party tonight?" If the haze of smoke wafting from the crowd was any indicator, then his Taylor Gang was definitely in the mood. And it was...

The crime has been committed, and now—at long last—Lady Gaga must pay.
This is how it works in America, right? We allow people to become famous, then more famous, then even more famous. But at some point, before a celebrity is permitted to reach Marilyn Monroe-esque heights, we need to expose the warts and scars and flaws; we need to find something—anything—to bring a person down.
Oprah Winfrey is arrogant. Alex Rodriguez is insincere.

This set report was originally published in July 2010. With the film arriving April 29, we thought we'd dust our report off in case you missed it. Meat. As one of the walking dead, this writer's motivation is rather simple. Find meat. Thankfully, my options in this cavern of rust, iron and stagnant water are plentiful. There's the scrawny buffoon just ahead of me. He's panicking, swinging from a chain, howling like a monkey for "help," eyes rolling back and forth in darkened sockets. His name is Marcus and he's in a load of shit if my fellow undead cohorts get a hold of him before I do. And they try. Reaching skeletal, dirt-caked hands into the air, brushing the tips of Marcus' sneakers. So close, yet so far away as Daryl Hall and John Oates once crooned. I...

When Dr. Phil McGraw appeared on 'Late Night' (weeknights, 12:37Am Et on NBC), Jimmy Fallon wondered how TV's most famous psychologist felt about losing his mustache on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' last May. "[Oprah] wanted to [shave it]. 'Yes, ma'am,'" McGraw joked.
His two kids (the oldest is 31) had never seen him without it, and wife Robin wasn't thrilled with the new look. Fallon displayed a picture of a mustache-less McGraw. "That just looks goofy," said the doc. Fallon contended that McGraw could play Will Ferrell's brother.
The host then revisited an old "Ultimate Mustache Fighter" segment in which a giant version of McGraw's mustache battled John Oates' '80s mustache.

Maybe some American Idol fans are too young to know who Daryl Hall and John Oates are, but for the older fans amongst us the pair need no introduction.
Daryl Hall & John Oates (often shortened to Hall & Oates) are an American pop music duo who achieved their greatest fame in the late 1970s and early to mid-1980s. They are best known for their six number one hits on the American Billboard Hot 100: “Rich Girl”, “Kiss on My List”, “Private Eyes”, “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)”, “Maneater”, and “Out of Touch.”
The pair took to the stage alongside this year’s Idol top 6 boys and gave a peppy medley of some of their greatest hits. The three tracks, I Can’t Go For That/Maneater/You Make My Dreams Come True, haven’t aged at all and we loved the whole segment.

Joe Cocker, Paula Abdul and other random guests can't distract from a lackluster season nine.
By Jim Cantiello
"American Idol" wrapped up "The Season of the Girl" by handing the "Idol" crown to a boy. Season nine really was as inept as we all thought.
Sorry Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox, but Wednesday night's two-hour finale was really all about Simon Cowell. With the exception of David Cook and Adam Lambert, most of the past "Idol" favorites showed up — even ones Simon supposedly hates — to say goodbye to the guy who helped make them moderately successful. (Some crackpot audition rejects also performed with Dane Cook. It was supposed to make Simon squirm, and he did ... along with the rest of America.) Then Paula Abdul returned to the "Idol" stage in a bizarre appearance that can only be described as part roast, part intervention.

Well, at least he’s a nice guy. Say what you want about Lee DeWyze winning American Idol (to my ears, Crystal Bowersox outperformed him the entire season), but at least the guy sincerely appreciated the love America showered upon him. Fox ended the finale telecast while Lee was still belting out U2′s “Beautiful Day,” which is too bad because the sweetest (as in, awww, that’s sweet) part of the show occurred right after his victory song. Lee, with mic still in hand, took a moment to personally thank the audience in the Nokia Theatre. “You have no...

Being that this is "American Idol," the results show — which could legitimately be only five minutes long — will run well over two hours. And being that this is Simon Cowell's final "Idol" episode ever, expect lots of celebrity cameos. (And when I say "celebrity," I mean Blake Lewis and Normund Gentle.)
Christina Aguilera and Enrique Iglesias are scheduled to perform (in honor of 1999, the year Simon first got his flat-top haircut), as well as our reigning Idol, Kris "Not Adam Lambert, The Straight One" Allen. There are plenty of rumored appearances, too, ranging from Janet Jackson to Hall and Oates. (Those greatest hits albums aren't going to sell themselves, now will they?)
But wait! There's more!
"Idol" finales bring back the entire Top 12 of the season, and often the singers get paired up with established acts, so congratulations random dude who hoped to see Paige Miles and Insane Clown Posse perform together.

Just imagine the very special panel Larry King could assemble for this story. Could this could be exactly the kind of big, important newsbreak that CNN has been looking for to turn things around? Personally, I'm a longtime Larry-head, so I genuinely hope that this is his best divorce yet. And now, a note from John Oates Anytime an artist covers a song by Daryl and myself, I am usually flattered and always curious. This is the first time that a band has dedicated an entire album to the music of Hall & Oates. In regard to their interpretation of our songs, what can I say? Inara George has a sensual, smooth delivery, and hearing these songs performed from a female point of view is both surprising and engaging....

The Bird And The Bee’s third album was originally titled Guiltless Pleasures before it became the even less ambiguous Interpreting The Masters, all of which is a pretty strong indication that the synth-pop duo’s album of Hall And Oates covers is executed with little to no irony. And rightfully so; thankfully, the patina of ironic appreciation that once coated the R&B powerhouse seems to have gone the way of John Oates’ signature mustache. Instead, The Bird And The Bee employ a genuine appreciation for Hall And Oates’ unassailable pop songcraft. Since vocalist Inara George and multi-instrumentalist Greg ...

One surefire way to know the artist you’re paying homage to gives you his blessing? He shows up at your gig.
