After 11 years pushing A Star Is Born as producer though three studio administrations — not counting the earlier iterations with Whitney Houston, Aaliyah, Lauryn Hill and Will Smith he worked on while a Warner Bros exec — Bill Gerber is moving on to other projects. Not surprising, a lot of what he’s working on remains in the realm of music.
One of them solves the lingering mystery of the absence of Neil Young in Woodstock, the 1970 Michael Wadleigh-directed documentary. Young will be seen in a new docu that Gerber is producing as a companion piece to the original, and the singer is reunited onscreen for the first time with ex-bandmates David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash. Gerber is hard at work on a documentary that will be released within a re-release of the 1970 Michael Wadleigh-directed documentary chronicle of – sorry, Live Aid, Queen and Freddie Mercury — the most famous and...

Winona Ryder gets on the hog, our new Oldboy goes "Crazy" and Kenny Powers gets serious in this past week's casting news.
Ryder will soon be trying on some leather accessories as she signs on to play a former biker chick in "Homefront," according to Heat Vision. The film makes for a rare action movie role for Ryder, who will be playing the companion to a sleazy meth dealer (James Franco) who interferes with the quiet life being sought after by an ex-dea agent (Jason Statham). Sylvester Stallone wrote the script, with Gary Fleder set to direct.
Josh Brolin and Sean Penn apparently got along while making "Gangster Squad," as Brolin has signed on to star in Penn's next directorial effort, "Crazy For the Storm," according to Variety. Based on the memoir by Norman Ollstead, "Crazy" follows the true story of an 11-year-old boy who has to descend the San...

It’s been five years since “Into The Wild," but Sean Penn is headed back to the director's chair and is gearing up to helm a big-screen adaptation of Norman Ollstead’s memoir “Crazy For The Storm.” And it looks like he's found his lead in Josh Brolin. The memoir, a must-read, follows the true story of an 11-year-old boy who has to descend the San Gabriel Mountains alone after a plane crash that also involved his father (Brolin), his father’s girlfriend, and the pilot. Based purely on the superficial similarities between this story and Penn’s last directorial outing, it seems like the two films share similar themes of nascent independence and finding oneself in the dangerous wilderness. For Brolin and Penn, the film will mark their third collaboration. They both appeared in Gus Van Sant's "Milk" and they face off in Ruben Fleischer's upcoming and currently reshooting "Gangster Squad.

On February 19, 1979, I was in a plane crash with my father, his girlfriend Sandra, and the pilot of our chartered Cessna. Sandra was 30 years old. My dad was 43. I was 11. Just after sunrise, we slammed into a rugged 8,600-foot mountain engulfed in a blizzard. By the end of our nine-hour ordeal, I was the only survivor. And so reads the book jacket for Norman Ollstead's memoir "Crazy For The Storm," and frankly, even in today's climate of blockbusters, sequels and spinoffs, if someone walked into a pitch meeting with that alone, they'd walk out with a deal. And it has certainly nabbed the attention of Sean Penn. He's looking to take on a big screen adaptation of the memoir that will see him direct his first film since 2007's "Into The Wild," in what is another wilderness tale. Will Fetters ("The Lucky One," "Remember Me") has penned the script...
