Because they managed to dip their toes into so many different genres, The Beatles covered Tony Orlando’s doo-wop version of an old song. That was part of a long history of Orlando finding his way into classic rock history. After several decades, The Beatles’ song eventually appeared on one of their albums.
The Beatles covered a Tony Orlando song based on the work of a classic writer
The Beatles covered Orlando’s “Beautiful Dreamer.” Orlando’s song was a doo-wop version of an old standard. During a 2016 interview with the Vancouver Sun, Orlando discussed his song. “It was an extension of a Stephen Foster song, ‘Beautiful Dreamer.’ The Beatles did cover it.” Foster was the famous writer behind tunes such as “My Old Kentucky Home,” “Oh! Susanna,” and “Camptown Ladies.”
Orlando shared an interesting Fab Four anecdote. “What’s interesting about that, if you read The Beatles’ liner notes,...

Cynthia Weil, who teamed with husband Barry Mann to write such pop classics as “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’,” “On Broadway,” “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” and dozens of other hits for the likes of the Drifters, the Ronettes, Dolly Parton and B.J. Thomas, died Thursday. She was 82.

Despite having both the lungs and the experience, Robert Plant admitted he’s only done karaoke a few times. For the lead singer of Led Zeppelin, getting up to sing in front of a crowd on his night off is probably like us regular folks answering emails from our boss over the weekend. It’s kind of a drag.
However, Plant admitted he sometimes couldn’t help himself when booze was involved.
Robert Plant was ‘outdone’ while performing karaoke in China
It takes a lot for a legend like Plant to admit someone topped his performance. But in a 2005 interview with Rolling Stone, that’s exactly what he did. When asked what inspired him to do karaoke, the Led Zeppelin singer quipped, “Vodka.”
He then described how he was “outdone” while performing an Elvis song in China years ago.

Paul Thomas Anderson grew up in the San Fernando Valley, which played an important role in his 1997 breakthrough film “Boogie Nights,” which looked at Valley’s porn industry during the ‘70s and 80s. In his new United Artists release “Licorice Pizza,” Anderson returns to the Sfv for a nostalgia-tinged comedy-of-age story set in 1973 starring Cooper Hoffman and Alana Haim. Both young performers received strong notices with the L.A. Times’ Justin Chang declaring Haim as the true star of “this boisterous, bighearted movie and its raison d’être.” And Bradley Cooper has earned positive notices for his funny turn as hairdresser turned film producer Jon Peters, who ironically was a producer on Cooper’s 2018 “A Star is Born.”

It really did all come down to that Fleetwood Mac TikTok video, didn’t it? There it was, right in the middle of an inauguration week that was emotionally messy and culturally turbulent on such historic levels: a montage of American idiots, from sea to shining sea, doing their thing to the bass line of “Dreams.” Idaho skater Nathan Apodaca was there, riding his board, sipping his cranberry juice, doing his viral TikTok-star turn, while Stevie Nicks sings about walking through the wreckage of her broken heart and moving on.

After that, they showed the continuation of last week's episode where Leeza and Geraldo got their Universal Orlando Resort commercials together. Geraldo made the decision to just take over everything after they ran into some issues. Meanwhile, Leeza and company were progressing along quite well, even getting ahead of schedule. Leeza praised Kevin's great directing skills. It was revealed that Geraldo was able to book Tony Orlando to perform at his event, and Geraldo actually teared up about it, lol!! Meanwhile, Leeza's team was a little concerned about the fundraising aspect of the task as Geraldo is a beast at it. After two TV personalities created ads for Universal Orlando and paid their "Celebrity Apprentice" dues by praising Donald Trump, he awarded one of them $250,000 for their charity. That money is about the only thing that matters on "Celebrity Apprentice" finales, which are the worst part of a show that draws so much entertainment from celebrities being tested by high-pressure, quasi-business challenges. Since the decision is up to Donald Trump, it's always been like flipping a coin into a shredder: decisive but pointless. That said, Leeza Gibbons is an incredibly satisfying winner because she was such a non-controversial contestant all season, someone who was strong yet wonderful. She also raised more money in the final task, $324,000 to Geraldo Rivera's $146,000, and won the creative challenge, too. Trump told her, "you lead with kindness" and have "tremendous leadership ability." He also tried to get her a job with The Today Show. Before that,...

When I heard the title "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," I didn't snicker like most of the internet. I immediately wondered what sequels such a perfect, restrained movie title could spawn. Here are the five we need most desperately. 1. Batman v. Superman v. Kramer: Dawn of Divorce Justice After a contentious separation, Batman realizes he must shape up as a man, as a parent. When reunited in court with his icy ex Superman, he realizes Clark Kent is the true, rightful guardian of their child. Superman weeps to the prosecutor about how broken he is as a person and argues he shouldn't be punished for abandoning his child; he needed to become a whole human being again. Batman's neighbor is Jane Alexander. 2. Batman v. Superman v. Tony Orlando and Dawn of Justice Batman and Superman band together in this revenge fantasy against the evil and enchanting Tony Orlando, who...

Today saw the first public lawsuit against Jeff Berg’s Resolution Agency since the former ICM chief started his own tenpercentery back in January. Resolution was sued in La Superior Court this morning for fraud, breach of contract, wrongful termination, and emotional distress in a 6-count complaint from Martin Beck (read it here). The La-based agent and 30-year ICM vet joined Resolution on July 8th but was terminated on August 2nd. Beck booked acts for Vegas casinos and was recruited by Resolution COO Jeff Franklin over the early part of the summer. Among Beck’s clients at ICM were Wayne Newton, Tony Orlando and Frankie Valli who’s hot again because of Jersey Boys. Beck claims in today’s filing that he signed a two-year contract with Resolution for an annual salary of around $165,000 and contends that his severe medical issues would be accommodated. He maintains that he was not...

Title: That’s My Boy Director: Sean Anders Cast: Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Leighton Meester, Vanilla Ice, James Caan, Milo Ventimiglia, Blake Clark, Meagen Fay, Tony Orlando, Will Forte, Rachel Dratch and Nick Swardson Adam Sandler movies work in their own universe. For the most part, these are movies that tell stories about despicable people trying to find their way through the world but have to adhere to a common sense of morality. This is pretty consistent with Adam Sandler movies. Whether it be “Billy Madison,” a movie about a man-child forced to become an adult or “Jack and Jill,” a movie about dealing with your very unlikable family. Despite their [ Read More ]...

Hey there! The world of the creative takes center stage on the big screen this week, as singers, writers, and performance artists feature heavily in the weekend releases. From ‘80s rock bands to the New York art scene to ex-pat writers in the birthplace of literary circles, The City of Lights itself, a hefty dose of the artistic graces the cinemas and adds some interesting and nontraditional subject matter to the lineup. Though the obligatory summer fare – another adult male with Peter Pan syndrome, a grisly murder flick, and even more aliens – isn’t very far behind. Looks like a blast!

Chicago – Adam Sandler is just freaking with us now. His goal is obviously to create the raunchiest, sociopathic and off-putting comedies of all time, and “That’s My Boy” belongs in his Hall of Fame. The A-list cast helps out, including Andy Sandberg, James Caan, Susan Sarandon and Leighton Meester.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
The first and most obvious problem is that there are long stretches in the film that have no laughs, but at least it has some laughs, unlike Sandler’s recent “Jack and Jill.” Screenwriter Dave Caspe, who also pens the decent TV sitcom “Happy Endings,” projects some unseemly obsessions through the Sandler character, especially in the sexual realm. It’s an oddball film for sure, paced unevenly by director Sean Anders (screenwriter of the much better raunch comedy, “She’s Out of My League”), and somewhat awkward in its execution. But I predict this film might eventually wear out...

That's My Boy
Starring Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Leighton Meester, Vanilla Ice, James Caan, Milo Ventimiglia, Tony Orlando, and Ciara.
Directed by Sean Anders
Rated R
Despite a film catalog that has grown staler than Howard Stern’s shtick, Adam Sandler still maintains a strong and loyal following. I believe most fans, like me, walk into the theater with renewed hope that his next film will be among his best. Will it be another great like The Waterboy or will it be Jack and Jill? It didn’t take long to realize that Sandler’s latest offering, That’s My Boy, unfortunately belongs in the latter category. What is truly remarkable is how low this film actually sinks in an attempt to elicit cheap laughs. Almost every form of toilet humor is on parade here and I wondered a few times why they didn’t just name this film “That...

Just when you thought Adam Sandler had hit bottom and could only improve upon a lackluster string of film’s that have to make you question the quality of his earlier gems, he proves it can always get worse. From Sean Anders (the director of Sex Drive) and David Caspe (creator of Happy Endings) comes one of the most unoriginal comedies in years. Recycling the ‘disastrous wedding’ trope that I’m sad to say was actually done better in Meet the Parents—a film I also abhor—we’re made to watch a bunch of despicable people be despicable while a slew of Sandler’s real life friends join the fun so you can laugh at their inclusion rather than the stale, raunchy jokes coming from their mouths. That’s My Boy‘s only redeeming feature becomes the constant guessing of who may show up next.

It was bound to happen. I was fairly successful in avoiding the work of that Razzie-magnet Adam Sandler. Now, I had seen two of his early films, Happy Gilmore and The Waterboy. Both pretty silly and crude, so his movies weren’t high up on my must-see list. Did enjoy The Wedding Singer and the little seen collaboration with Judd Apatow Funny People. Singer’s a pretty sweet love story and he had some nice acting moves in People ( may have helped that he had strong co-stars in both- Drew Barrymore and Seth Rogan ). But these were not the pure, undiluted Sandler. They weren’t from his owm production company Happy Madison. And so, I ‘ve now seen the latest ” real deal ” Sandler movie comedy That’S My Boy. This effort can’t be as worthy of the critical barbs as his previous films. Or could it…?

Chicago – As the chorus of “Goodbye Ruby Tuesday” signaled the recent season finale of “Saturday Night Live,” it was Kristen Wiig that said farewell to the show, but not before a lingering twirl from Andy Samberg, who just announced his own departure. The next phase for Samberg begins with a co-starring role beside Adam Sandler, in the film “That’s My Boy.”
Andy Samberg was born in Mill Valley, California, and grew up watching “Saturday Night Live,” as a self-described obsessed fan of the show. He spend two years at the University of California, Santa Cruz, before transferring after two years to New York University, to study filmmaking. It was with his childhood friends, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, that he would form a comedy troupe called Lonely Island. The trio landed a gig on Saturday Night Live on their writing staff, and Samberg broke out as a featured cast member on the show.

The brilliant director, writer and actor Woody Allen said that. Maybe. Or maybe it was something close to that; maybe it was 90 percent of success or 80 percent of life. In truth, the exact details and source don't even matter that much as it's a valid sentiment. If Allen hadn't have said it, someone would have had to. It's a sentiment that I've heard and thought about many times in life and one that popped into my head while walking out of the theater after screening That's My Boy, the latest offering from Adam Sandler's Happy Madison production company. I was wondering what it means when the...

Adam Sandler, comedian, A-List star, and leading man of this Friday’s “That’s My Boy,” is not an idiot. Dedicated to preserving his brand, his films have effectively raised a generation, from the sophomoric absurdity of “Billy Madison” to, uh, the sophomoric banality of “Grown Ups.” You can’t keep playing the same notes forever, and Sandler is not the most diverse instrument, so aside from token experiments (“Punch Drunk Love” certainly stands out), “That’s My Boy” is something of a departure: a hard-r rated film featuring an unfamiliar collaborator in director Sean Anders (“Hot Tub Time Machine”) and a co-star who actually makes Sandler, for the first time ever, come across as an elder.
We first meet Sandler’s Donny as a young boy, a hotshot preteen with a prepubescent school hallway strut. Despite his assumption that sex involves endless “handjobs,” he attracts the amorous attention of a shapely female teacher,...

Briefly: Adam Sandler is going to play dad to SNL's Andy Samberg in I Hate You, Dad, and now the same movie is going to see him eventually shacked up with hot teacher Mary McGarricle, played by Susan Sarandon. Sean Anders and John Morris are directing the film, which is about " a father (Sandler) who moves in on the eve of the wedding of his son (Samberg) and promptly begins feuding with the bride-to-be."
