For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the animated series adaptation of Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice,“ which aired from 1989 to 1991 on ABC/Fox Network.
In the eighties and nineties, studios were never shy about taking mature intellectual properties and cashing in on them by giving them their own animated spinoffs for kids. Among the rather extensive list were direct G-rated adaptations like “Rambo,” “Conan,” “Ace Ventura,” and even “Police Academy.” One of the most notable, and more widely celebrated adaptations was of Tim Burton’s 1988 hit film Beetlejuice. While the original movie excelled in being as menacing, bizarre, and raunchy as possible, executive producers Tim Burton and David Geffen opted for a more kid friendly variation of the “Ghost with the Most” for the animated series.
Aimed more for the 8-12 Saturday morning cartoon demographic, the animated show thankfully stuck true to much of what made the movie so entertaining.

Being Canadian is an odd experience for those who have never tried it. It can teach you humility and pride at the same time, and how to deal with disappointment come NHL playoff time. Yet Canadians, compared to Americans, will always be viewed as the “Prince Harry” on the global stage (if you’ll forgive the colonized-metaphor). Canadians are cuter, perhaps slightly more politically correct, but ultimately not seen as important as their big brother.
On occasion, Canadian television will break out and receive the international attention and acclaim it so rightfully deserves, almost American levels of attention. More often than not, it’s a comedic gem that lends itself to a unique slice of Canadiana, shining a light on the embarrassing underbelly of the country that tries so hard to remain hidden. Shows such as Trailer Park Boys, Letterkenny, and Schitt’s Creek reveal that underbelly, while thankfully also highlighting...

“It’s showtime.” In the past, when I thought of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice, the first image that popped into my mind was the eponymous character’s toothy smile, prison-esque striped suit, and that green hair that’s as frazzled as someone who’s just been struck by the electric touch of Mother Nature on a stormy day. Betelgeuse's iconic appearance and quirky personality have been embedded in my brain for decades, but when I revisited Burton’s film for Daily Dead’s Class of 88 retrospective series, I discovered a different side of the “ghost with the most,” as well as a newfound appreciation for the people who summon him.

If it were possible that the people behind both the Shout! Factory and the Scream Factory could be combined into one sexy woman, I'd propose and then immediately start dry-humping her leg raw until the overall friction caused a scorching orgasmic blaze.

Two things up front. One: I loathe the theatre. The self-indulgence, the ungainly intensity, the often inescapable pathos and pretentiousness, all of it. As far as I am concerned, theatre plays should be quarantined and only released into the world when supervised by Mike Nichols and/or Emma Thompson.
Two: I've been around. Enough to be frustrated that the Centauri Republic had an Emperor and deeply unsettled by how hot Ziggy Sobotka was in "Generation Kill," to know that C.J. Cregg's codename is "Flamingo" and wish I could forget ever seeing Cy Tolliver torture Veronica Mars. I'm a TV whore.
So when I tell you that a series about theatre makes most of the above, and Simon Tam, look like idiot children, I want you to understand my full meaning.
Gushing lends itself to hyperbole, but I genuinely want as many people as possible to give this gem a shot,...

We all know that all the three seasons of the Canadian TV series Slings and Arrows have been on DVD for quite a while. Now, Acorn Media, a film and TV series distributor, has announced that the complete series will come on High Definition Blu-Ray in North America on October 26.
This dark comedy from The Movie Network, a Canadian premium cable network, talks about a theatre festival.
In the fictional town of New Burbage, legendary theatrical madman Geoffrey Tennant (Paul Gross) returns to the New Burbage Theatre Festival, the site of his greatest triumph and most humiliating failure, to assume the artistic directorship after the sudden death of his mentor, Oliver Welles (Stephen Ouimette). When Geoffrey arrives he finds that Oliver is still there, in spirit anyway, and with his guidance (and often in spite of it) Geoffrey attempts to reconcile with his past while wrestling the festival back from the marketing department.

Usually we see animated cartoons as a separate entity from live-action movies, or else they spawn a major movie event or franchise. This would be the case with G.I. Joe, which opens this Friday, August 7 in theaters nationwide. However, there are a select number of memorable animated television series that were based on a live-action movie. Having broke the mold in that sense, we decided to come up with our list of the Top Ten Animated Series Based on a Movie. Each of these animated series garnered various levels of success and popularity from various eras on TV nostalgia.
