Iran scored twice deep into stoppage time to stay in the World Cup and spoil Gareth Bale’s record 110th cap for his country.
A long-range effort by Cheshmi in the eight minutes into added time gave Iran the lead while Rezaeian coolly made it 2-0, three minutes from the second goal.
The turning point of the match turned out to be and a disastrous one for Wales turned out to be the sending off of goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, who got the yellow card upon video review in the 88th minute.
Hennessey, who has over 100 caps for his country was sent off for reckless challenge on Mehdi Taremi far outside the penalty area with his right leg high up.
He became the third goalkeeper in the history of the World Cup to have received a red card and the first player to see the red card at the current edition.

The Welsh actor has gone viral on social media for the second time in as many weeks for his rousing pre-tournament pep talks for the Wales men’s national soccer team as they enter final preparations for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar where they face England, Iran and the U.S. in the group stages.
Two weeks ago, the Good Omens star, appearing on the British game show A League Of Their Own, seemingly riffed an off-the-cuff spine-tingling speech for the Welsh team that drew upon myth, legend, national identity and much more.
“A victory song that floats through the valleys, like a red mist, rolls over the mountain tops, like crimson thunder,” Sheen roared in the first speech as he left the...

Following on from the news that Alan Pardew had told Remie Streete that he would only ever be fourth or fifth choice centre-back at Newcastle this season, the young defender has extended his loan at Port Vale until January.
The 20-year-old has so far played twice for the League One side, and Vale’s manager Rob Page seems duly impressed:
“I think Remie has shown what he is all about in the two games he has had.
“It’s pleasing to tie him down until January. He is a great lad to have around and gets on with his training.”
The defender confirmed that it had always been the longer term target to have him stay at Vale until January, which clearly makes more sense for a player whose first team chances are limited despite the lack of available players.
Hopefully this means that Streete’s...
