Threequels can often be a daunting undertaking for even the most accomplished of directors, and even for franchises with decent first two installments. Candyman 3: Day of the Dead takes a fairly offensive stab at the Mexican holiday, while Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III doesn’t live up to the pre-release marketing hype about it being ‘banned’ and ‘the most controversial movie ever made’. It was neither. Even Scream 3, despite not necessarily being bad per se, is a low point considering how strong the first two movies are. On the flip side though, George Romero’s Day of the Dead is a solid follow-up to both Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, while Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead threequel Army of Darkness is a total blast. So, after Hostel: Part II grossed significantly less than the hit opening chapter, did that put any notions...

To say Herschell Gordon Lewis‘ and Jeremy Kasten‘s respective The Wizard of Gore releases pushed me to my limits is correct for all the wrong reasons. My choice to stack the 1970 original and 2007 remake back-to-back stands as one of my least favorite Revenge of the Remakes double-bills thus far. I’ve no objection to gore-forward perversions that assault audiences with repugnant visuals, unless their storytelling devolves from nonsense to unintelligible drivel from one title to the next. Even worse when one of the films can’t even sustain its titular “Gore” effects.
Lewis’ legacy as the Grandfather of Grossouts and Sorcerer of Sadistic Splatter isn’t lost on The Wizard of Gore, unlike Allen Kahn‘s screenplay, hacked apart and reassembled to maximize the grotesque kill sequences using sheep carcass guts. Kasten’s remake didn’t have to attain Kubrickian levels of storytelling to surpass its inspiration’s narrative cohesion,...

Horror movies like Deep Fear take place underground, and they are often the most effective as far as compelling scares go. They evoke a fear that everyone can understand. Trap someone in a confined, dark space below ground, then have them be pursued by someone (or something) — it’s a simple but winning formula.
Screambox‘s latest release Deep Fear, as well as the nine other movies below, reinforce feelings of claustrophobia and remind you of what possible evils could be hiding below the surface. As Above, So Below, The Descent, C.H.U.D., Creep and The Midnight Meat Train are all familiar examples of this subgenre, but this list focuses on underseen movies set underground.
Deep Fear (2022)
Grégory Beghin‘s movie Deep Fear follows three friends and their guide (Joseph Olivennes) into the Paris Catacombs. Set in the early ’90s, the main characters have recently graduated from college,...

The SAG-AFTRA presidential election has heated up with a pointed attack by six women on president Gabrielle Carteris and her handling of the guild’s response to the growing awareness of sexual harassment in the industry.
Allies of Matthew Modine, who has mounted an active challenge to Carteris, issued a detailed recap of her actions since the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke in October, 2017. Rosanna Arquette, Jessica Barth, Caitlin Dulany, Pamela Guest, Sarah Ann Masse, and Sarah Scott each assailed Carteris in a campaign message released Wednesday by Modine’s Membership First faction.
Carteris responded by accusing Membership First of ignoring the progress that has been made: “The timing of these complaints, made as our election ballots have just been mailed, is no coincidence. It’s deeply disturbing that the work our union has done — from individual members to our elected leadership — is being disregarded in Membership First’s...

A SAG-AFTRA disciplinary committee has censured and fined actor Kip Pardue after finding him guilty of “serious misconduct” stemming from sexual harassment accusations from a fellow actor on the set of the indie TV show “Mogulettes.”
According to a report in Sunday’s Los Angeles Times, in a complaint sent to the actors’ guild in June 2018, Scott accused Pardue of placing her hand on his crotch while they waited to film a bedroom scene for the show. After filming the scene, she said that Pardue masturbated in front of her.
Scott told The Times that she heard nothing for two months after filing the complaint and was only told that Pardue would receive a hearing in October after directly reaching out to SAG-aftra president Gabrielle Carteris. That hearing would then be delayed another five months.

SAG-AFTRA has found actor Kip Pardue guilty of misconduct and fined him $6,000 for sexually harassing actress Sarah Scott last year, according to a published report in the Los Angeles Times.
The union declined comment on the report about the March disciplinary proceedings, citing reasons of confidentiality.
Pardue, was found “guilty of serious misconduct in violation” of the SAG-aftra constitution, according to a letter Scott was sent, which she provided to The Times. The notice of the decision told Pardue that the SAG committee “censures and admonishes you for this inappropriate and unprofessional conduct.”
Pardue was told in the letter that his behavior was “inconsistent” with its code of conduct on sexual harassment and fined $6,000. He was also told that if he took an online workplace sexual harassment training module within 90 days, the fine would be reduced to $3,000.
Pardue’s attorney, Shepard Kopp, told the Times that Pardue “never engaged in any nonconsensual behavior.

Hulu has shared the first trailer for “Runaways” ahead of the Marvel drama’s second season next month.
Set to debut on Friday, Dec. 21, “Runaways” will dive deeper into the beloved Marvel Comics series now that the central band of teen superheroes have been forced into hiding, left with only each other to rely on as they try to put a stop their parents’ evildoings.
“This year is much more the cat-and-mouse [game] and the two sides going to war,” executive producer Stephanie Savage told Entertainment Weekly about the new season.

The trailer also introduces the new character of Topher (Jan Luis Castellanos), who in the comics is a vampire the group first encounters in the abandoned hostel that becomes their new hideout. “He’s not all that he appears to be,” executive producer Josh Schwartz warned EW.

Hulu has released the official Season 2 trailer for Marvel’s Runaways ahead of its December 21 premiere featuring the superpowered kids on the run and dependent on each other for their survival. The new footage reveals a lot more magic ahead in Season 2 and the introduction of newcomer Jan Luis Castellano as Topher. In Marvel’s Runaways comics, the character was a vampire the group first encountered while hiding out in the abandoned hostel that became their new base of operations.
In the official Season 2 logline, the Runaways have left their homes (and evil parents) behind and now have to learn to live on their own. As they scavenge for food, search for shelter, and take care of one another, our kids begin to realize that, for better or worse, they’re stuck with each other. After being accused of sexual misconduct by actress Sarah Scott, Kip Pardue’s role on Marvel’s The Runaways on Hulu seems to be unaffected for the time being.
When Deadline contacted Hulu and Marvel about the possibility of Pardue’s removal from the series as Frank Dean, neither issued a comment. The second season for the comic book series wrapped production and is set to premiere on the streaming platform on December 21.
First reported by the Los Angeles Times, Scott claimed Pardue masturbated in front of her shortly after filming a sex scene for the indie TV project Mogulettes. She also claimed that he became aroused and placed her hand on his crotch as they lay under the covers waiting to film the scene.

SAG-AFTRA has responded to Sarah Scott’s allegation that she was sexually harassed by Kip Pardue by advising its 160,000 members how to deal with such circumstances.
In a message posted on the SAG-aftra website on Monday, the union did not address Scott’s specific allegations, citing the confidentiality requirements of its procedures. Instead, SAG-aftra posted an extensive member advisory Monday about how those procedures work.
“Confidentiality protects members,” it said. “In certain cases, our members choose to initiate member-to-member disciplinary proceedings in response to an incident. Our mission is to support the member who is reaching out to us for help in responding to an incident, while also providing fairness and due process. In order to protect our members, we must protect their privacy and uphold confidentiality during the course of the proceedings. This means SAG-aftra not commenting publicly when asked about confidential investigative, disciplinary or trial processes.

“Marvel’s Runaways” star Kip Pardue has been accused of sexual misconduct by actress Sarah Scott.
In a story published by the Los Angeles Times Sunday, Scott says Pardue assaulted her in May while they were filming, “Mogulettes,” an independent television pilot. According to the Times, Scott first recounted her story to the outlet that same month, saying Pardue became aroused when they were shooting a sex scene together and proceeded to place her hand on his erect penis.
Scott told the Times that Pardue asked her to come to his dressing room, where he masturbated in front of her. Scott says, “I literally froze. I said, ‘What are you doing?'” saying Pardue responded, “This isn’t a #MeToo thing. I’m not your employer. It’s not like I can fire you.”

Sarah Scott, an actress who’s appeared in such shows as “True Blood” and “Castle,” has accused actor Kip Pardue of placing her hand on his penis while filming a sex scene and then masturbating in front of her after it was done. She alleges that the latter incident took place in his dressing room just after they had shot a sequence for “Mogulettes,” a television pilot, in May.
“I literally froze,” the 35-year-old told the Los Angeles Times. “I said, ‘What are you doing?’”
His response, according to Scott: “This isn’t a #MeToo thing. I’m not your employer. It’s not like I can fire you.”

After months of inaction from SAG-AFTRA, actress Sarah Scott has agreed to enter mediation on her claim that Kip Pardue, her costar on indie TV project Mogulettes, masturbated in front of her shortly after filming a sex scene. She also claimed that he became aroused and placed her hand on his crotch as they lay under the covers waiting to film the scene.
Scott’s claim, which was first reported by the Los Angeles Times, had been set to be heard by the guild’s disciplinary committee on Friday. But the hearing was postponed after her #MeToo-appointed attorney couldn’t fly in on time from the East Coast to attend the hearing.

At New York Comic Con a new cast member was announced for the second season of Marvel’s Runaways: Topher, a fan-favorite character known for his crafty, streetwise persona, will be portrayed by Jan Luis Castellanos.
The actor shared a quote through Marvel: “I’m super grateful to be joining the Marvel/Hulu Runaways family. It has been a dream come true. Topher is a tough and complicated kid, and it was very exciting to bring him to life.”
Topher is a survivor with a dark secret in the comics — he’s a vampire not to be trusted — but the character may be taken in a different direction on the acclaimed Hulu series, which many fans regard as one of the most satisfying of the many Marvel-based shows currently underway.
Castellanos is a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, but raised in New Jersey since age 8. A newcomer to acting...

“They’re our parents … how can they be such monsters?” Nico says in the new trailer for the second season of Marvel’s Runaways. The spell-casting goth played by Lyrica Okano is part of a group of teens with superpowers who, in the first season of the Hulu comic book series, found out that their parents are part of a cult-like villainous group called Pride.
Based on the trailer, the second season picks up almost immediately where the first season left off, with the runaway teens are now on their own after escaping their evil parents. As they scavenge for food, search for shelter and take care of one another, the teens begin to realize that, for better or worse, they’re stuck with one another. And it’s up to them to take down Pride once and for all. But someone sent a mysterious message to the creepy Pride...

Season 2 of Marvel’s Runaways picks up almost immediately where the first season left off, with the runaway teens now on their own, taking refuge in an underground hostel, and having to fend for themselves. “It’s going to accelerate. We are now running with our kids,” said Ep and showrunner Josh Schwartz during a TCA set visit. “Our focus shifts to these kids and trying to survive in the streets… there’s a greater sense of tension and momentum in keeping with where we are in this part of the story.”
This new situation will inevitably force the teens — ranging from age 14-17 — to grow up quickly.
“In the real world, young people are dealing with adult themes. The world the adults are leaving young people, there’s a responsibility on young people to fix this world. It feels so broken in so many ways. That is also a...

Marvel’s Runaways is making a run from Hulu to Freeform. The angsty teenage comic series is set to make its broadcast bow with its first season episode after the season finale of Cloak and Dagger on Aug. 2, Deadline has confirmed.
The debut of Runaways on Freeform marks the second Marvel show on the Disney-ABC owned network, the first being the aforementioned Cloak and Dagger. The airing of the first episode Runaways is part of Freeform’s ongoing marketing partnership with Hulu. No word yet on whether additional episodes will air on the network.
The news comes shortly after Disney and 21st Century Fox shareholders overwhelmingly approved the merger between the companies first proposed last December. The merger also includes Disney’s acquisition of Fox’s 30% stake in Hulu. Freeform is owned by the Disney–ABC Television Group, which is a division of The Walt Disney Company.

Zelena is sticking around for the foreseeable future on Once Upon a Time.
The former villain got a whole new persona thanks to the latest curse, and when we caught up with her on Once Upon a Time Season 7, she was going by the name of Kelly.
Regina was shocked to learn that her sibling's cursed alter ego was engaged and gearing up to be married. In a surprising twist, Zelena still had feelings for the man when the cursed persona was purged from her body.
So, it was inevitable that we would be meeting the man who stole The Wicked Witch of the West's heart at some point.
Thanks to EW, we now know who will be playing the role of Chad, and he will be familiar to fans of Marvel's Runaways.
Kip Pardue has landed a guest-starring role on the ABC drama's 150th episode as Chad.

There’s visual style to spare but precious little narrative coherence in Anne Hamilton’s debut feature set during the Reagan-era '80s. Its storyline revolving around a self-possessed young girl who makes a startling discovery at her family’s financially struggling Wisconsin farm, American Fable possesses an amorphous, dreamlike quality that proves increasingly irritating as it wears on.
The story revolves around 11-year-old Gitty (Peyton Kennedy), who lives on the isolated farm with her caring father Abe (Kip Pardue); pregnant, distracted mother Sarah (Marci Miller); and hostile, borderline abusive older brother Martin (Gavin MacIntosh). Despite Reagan’s promise that the nation is on an...

They were losing their farms, their homes, their livelihoods. Some committed suicide. Some did whatever they could to hold onto their property and survive. In American Fable, Gitty, 11, is a guileless dreamer who has always lived with her family on their farm. She loves to run through endless acres of cornfields and play with neighboring kids and soak in the fresh air and dream up simple fantasies of a horse and its rider. Her father Abe (Kip Pardue) and her mother Sarah (Marci Miller) share a special love and they plainly love...
