F Troop's Commander of Fort Courage Ken Berry was given his first assignment by Mr. Spock when he was a lowly sergeant.
Ken Berry, best known for his role as Captain Wilton Parmenter on the TV comedy series F Troop, died Saturday at age 85, according to Variety.
“Dear friends. We are sad to let you know our beloved Captain, Mr Ken Berry passed away tonight,” Larry Storch, who played F Troop's Corporal Agarn, wrote to Facebook. “We just spoke with Jackie Joseph who confirmed the devastating news. We are at a true loss for words. Ken, we hope you know how much you were loved. Goodnight Captain. We miss you already.”
Berry could deliver lines, but his forte was physical comedy. Trained as a dancer since he joined the Horace Heidt Youth Opportunity Program traveling performance ensemble at age 15, Berry was often assigned long, seemingly impossible takes...

By any standard, The Andy Griffith Show was not an easy act to follow. After all, it became one of the most popular shows throughout its run in the 1960s, and grew even bigger over the decades thanks to reruns and the nostalgia factor. But what’s truly amazing is that series star Andy Griffith decided to leave the show after eight seasons, and instead of simple cancellation, it evolved into the series Mayberry R.F.D., which was essentially the same show, but without Sheriff Andy Taylor or his son, Opie. Instead, the focus shifted to widower farmer (eventually head of the town council) Sam Jones, raising his son, Mike, and they were surrounded by all the regular supporting characters of Mayberry — including Aunt Bee. Amazingly it worked, much of it because of actor Ken Berry, who stepped in as Sam. "Andy and Don Knotts had had an oral agreement that...

Lolita Davidovich will guest star on a December episode of Rizzoli & Isles, coming on board the TNT hit as Melody Patterson, one of Vince Korsak’s three ex-wives. She's the ex whose child Vince raised for a decade.
According to TV Line, Melody returns because she wants Vince to invest in her new business. It's a character producer Janet Tamaro says she "tailored" specifically for Davidovich, who hasn't appeared on a series since a stint in 2009 on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Rizzoli & Isles wraps up its summer season on September 12 and then returns in the late fall.

American actor known for his role as Danno in the television series Hawaii Five-o
One actor in his time plays many parts, so it is a mixed blessing for a performer to be forever associated with one role and one catchphrase. James MacArthur, who has died aged 72, was instantly identified with Detective Danny "Danno" Williams in the long-running television series Hawaii Five-o (1968-79), in which he was habitually told "Book 'em, Danno" by his superior officer, Detective Steve McGarrett (Jack Lord), after villains had been captured.
From the outset, MacArthur could not escape being reminded that he was the son of celebrated parents. His mother, Helen Hayes, always flagged as "the first lady of the theatre", had a long career on stage, in television and films, winning two Oscars 40 years apart, and his father, Charles MacArthur, co-wrote and co-directed several films with Ben Hecht, one of which, The Scoundrel (1935), won a screenplay Oscar,...

MacArthur went on to appear in Walt Disney films "Third Man on the Mountain", "Kidnapped" and "Swiss Family Robinson", and in 1961 he made his Broadway debuted opposite a little-known Jane Fonda in "Invitation to a March".

If you have Netflix and are a horror fan in need of something to watch this Labor Day weekend, one look at this gargantuan list I compiled of the new terror titles Netflix has added for instant streaming in just the first three days of this month should keep you busy until Labor Day next year. You'll find something for everyone, from older titles to recent releases, famous to obscure, classic to not-so-classic, monsters to maniacs - you name it.
For the record, I considered compiling this list in alphabetical order or by year of the film's release, but then I realized I had already spent well over an hour just sorting through the massive catalogue of titles Netflix has now made available for instant streaming and realized Labor Day would be over by the time I finished arranging this list in any kind of order. Ready? Here you go.

The shocking 1971 thriller Blood And Lace (not to be confused with Mario Bava’s similarly titled Blood And Black Lace from 1964) opens with a bloody hammer murder shot from the point of view of the killer that predates an almost identical opening to John Carpenter’s Halloween by 6 years. The plot of Blood And Lace involves murder, pedophilia, incest, and a freezer full of child corpses. And it was rated PG! (more accurately Gp, the 1971 equivalent). An irresistible mix of bad psychodrama, overacting, and gratuitous gore, Blood And Lace is a disturbing film of genuine misanthropy, bereft of humanity on any level and it’s hard to believe that children in 1971 were allowed into movie theatres showing it. It’s also hard to believe that it is Not available on DVD.
