It’s been over a year since Hulu announced that King of the Hill will be returning with an upcoming revival series, but we still don’t know when new episodes will air.
The original series ran on Fox for 13 seasons from 1997 through 2009. The original co-creators, Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, are returning to create the new revival series alongside incoming executive producer and showrunner Saladin Patterson.
Greg told TVLine that the show realistically won’t be returning until “the beginning of 2025″ due to delays from the writers strike.
Hulu has announced which cast members from the original series will be back and there’s one name that appears to be missing from the list. Multiple original actors have passed away and it’s unclear if their roles will be recast.

It’s the end of The Wonder Years. ABC has canceled the comedy series — a reboot of the 1988 show of the same name — after a two-season run, Deadline reports. The latest version of The Wonder Years is a coming-of-age story following a Black middle-class family living in 1960s-era Montgomery, Alabama, through the point of view of 12-year-old Dean (Elisha “Ej” Williams). “With the wisdom of his adult years, Dean’s hopeful and humorous recollections show how his family found their ‘wonder years’ in a turbulent time,” ABC added in a logline for the series, which was narrated by Don Cheadle as an older version of the protagonist. Created by Saladin K. Patterson, The Wonder Years also starred Dulé Hill and Saycon Sengbloh as Bill and Lillian Williams, Dean’s parents, and Laura Kariuki as Kim, his sister. Amari O’Neil, Julian Lerner, and Milan Ray played friends of Dean’s — portraying Cory,...

The Wonder Years is coming to an end after two seasons on ABC, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The decision to end the comedy series follows the 10-episode second season having aired its finale Aug. 16. ABC announced late last year that the season had been bumped to the summer.
The Wonder Years is inspired by the original series of the same name that debuted in 1988 and aired its finale in May 1993 after six seasons.
The recent version starred Dulé Hill and featured Don Cheadle as the narrator. Elisha “Ej” Williams, Saycon Sengbloh, Laura Kariuki, Amari O’Neil, Julian Lerner and Milan Ray rounded out the cast for the project that was created by Saladin K. Patterson and premiered in September 2021.
Original series star Fred Savage, who worked as a director and executive producer on ABC’s reinvented version, was fired last year following a misconduct investigation.

“The Wonder Years” reboot will not return for a third season at ABC, TheWrap has learned.
The network has chosen to cancel the sitcom starring Elisha “Ej” Williams, Dulé Hill and Saycon Sengbloh, which ran for two seasons. The cancellation comes just over a month after the coming-of-age drama aired the finale for its sophomore season, which saw the Williams family head to Disneyland.

Exclusive: ABC has opted not to proceed with a third season of The Wonder Years. The news comes a month after the reboot of the classic coming-of-age comedy wrapped its Season 2 run on the network.
Originally slated for a midseason return, The Wonder Years‘ second season was pushed to summer, hinting at the show’s potential fate as summer has traditionally been used as a destination for broadcast scripted series that have either been canceled or are likely to be.
The Wonder Years ranks as the lowest-rated and least watched ABC series this summer, behind the network’s unscripted slate. It also would rank last among ABC’s series that aired during the 2022-23 season.
There are no renewal decisions on ABC bubble series The Rookie: Feds and Home Economics and a pickup one on The Good Lawyer pilot. As Deadline reported last month, their fates remain in limbo amid...

King of the Hill fans were shocked to learn of the death of Johnny Hardwick last week. The actor was best known as the voice of Dale Gribble, Hank Hill’s conspiracy-obsessed neighbour on the animated series. When it was officially announced that Hulu had ordered a King of the Hill revival earlier this year, Johnny Hardwick was expected to return, but did he actually get the chance to record any episodes before his death?
According to TVLine, Johnny Hardwick had completed work on “a couple” episodes of the King of the Hill revival. Hopefully this means that we’ll get to hear the actor’s pitch-perfect take on Dale Gribble just one more time. As far as the rest of the episodes of the revival go, it’s not certain if someone else will take over as the voice of Dale or if they’ll retire the character.

Johnny Hardwick, who voiced Dale Gribble, the chain-smoking, ball cap-and-sunglasses wearing conspiracy theorist neighbor on “King of the Hill,” has died. He was 64.
The voice actor, comedian and YouTuber’s body was discovered by authorities after they were called to his home to perform a welfare check on Tuesday, according to the coroner’s office in Austin, Texas. While Hardwick is remembered most performing as Dale from the hit Mike Judge and Greg Daniels-created series, he began his career as a stand-up comedian in Texas during the ’90s, with his first appearance being on Jon Stewart’s “The Jon Stewart Show.” He also used his voice acting skills on other projects, including a video game called “Warped Kart Racers,” a documentary titled “Natural Selection” and he acted as Dale in...

Now that Hulu is reviving King of the Hill for new episodes, it’s time to book a return ticket to Arlen. And we have 10 episodes to get you going! The original King of the Hill aired on Fox between 1997 and 2009 as viewers followed the hijinks of the Hill family — Hank Hill (Mike Judge) and Peggy Hill (Kathy Najimy), son Bobby (Pamela Adlon), and niece Luanne (Brittany Murphy) — and their friends and neighbors. And for the forthcoming revival, much of the King of the Hill voice cast is returning, with Judge and his co-creator Greg Daniels returning as executive producers alongside Saladin Patterson (The Wonder Years), who will also be a showrunner. If you’re yearning for a King of the Hill binge-watch before the show returns, the show’s original 13-season run is streaming on Hulu. In addition to co-creator and star Judge's return as both Hank and his mumbling friend Boomhauer, the series will also include Kathy Najimy's Peggy, Pamela Adlon's Bobby, Stephen Root's Bill, and Johnny Hardwick's Dale. Key castmate Toby Huss, who played Hank's belligerent father Cotton, is absent from the lineup, likely since Cotton finally kicked the bucket in the show's twelfth season. ABC is shifting the sophomore season of “The Wonder Years” to the summer. The comedy, which had originally been announced to return in midseason, wasn’t included in ABC’s midseason.
Instead, new sitcom “Not Dead Yet” is filling the one available slot on Wednesday’s four-comedy lineup (the only sitcom block currently on the network), launching at 9:30 p.m. Et behind “Abbott Elementary”. With no room for any other half-hour, that necessitated “The Wonder Years” move to summer. A premiere date will be announced later.
Although the show won’t return for a bit, ABC confirmed a list of guest stars for Season 2. Besides previously announced guest Patti Labelle, the show will also welcome Wayne Brady, Tituss Burgess, Donald Faison, Phoebe Robinson and Bradley Whitford, among others.
Brady will play Melvin, described as “Bill’s older brother, a blowhard who is super-successful and insufferably smug about it, including being favored by their father.

ABC’s Wonder Years reboot is the latest recipient of a 2022 Peabody Award, The Hollywood Reporter can reveal.
Presenter Sheryl Lee Ralph points out how the 1960s-set sitcom — now set in Montgomery, Alabama, where audiences follow the Black, middle-class Williams family — highlights some of the “awful truths” she experienced growing up as a child of the ’60s.
Accepting the honor, showrunner Saladin K. Patterson says he’s proud to continue the prestigious lineage of being part of a Peabody-winning show.
“The Peabody means something special to me because myself, some of our other writers, department heads, we all come from other shows that have been honored by the Peabody before, shows such as the original Wonder Years, Frasier, the Bernie Mac Show, Black-ish, The West Wing, Insecure,” he explained. “For us to be able to say we are part of that lineage now is such a great honor.

“There was a lot of balance in trying to make it feel like someone’s home, but also give it a little bit extra texture so we can tell more about our characters, personalities and their background,” explains production designer Aiyana Trotter about the specific challenges of designing on ABC’s “The Wonder Years” reboot. For our recent Q&a, she adds, “it’s interesting because people homes at that time, there was definitely a lot of the feel of the sixties and the fifties in their homes, but in a way they have much less stuff than we do now. And their walls are often, you know, a lot more bare than what we’d like to see on a television set.” We talked with Trotter as part of Gold Derby’s special “Meet the Experts” Q&a event with 2022 Emmy Awards contenders. Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from Wednesday night’s episode of The Wonder Years.
ABC’s The Wonder Years has a connection to the original 90s series, which was revealed in tonight’s episode titled “Love & War” and it was poignant. The scene can be viewed above.
In the episode, Dean’s (Ej Williams) big brother Bruce (Spence Moore II) has returned home from Vietnam injured and with a secret—he has a girlfriend and she’s an older woman. While convalescing at home, the family wanted to know everything about Tammy (Yvonne Orji), who is later revealed to be a divorced, single mom.
Things are moving fast between Bruce and Tammy, much to his mom Lilian (Saycon Sengbloh), and Dean’s chagrin. Dean isn’t ready to share his brother with Tammy’s son Joey, and he’s even less excited about being his babysitter.

On April 13, more than ever, the reimagining of The Wonder Years — set in 1969 Montgomery, Alabama— reminds fans of its heartfelt 1988–93 predecessor. In an episode that’s both emotional and funny, 20-year-old Williams son Bruce (Spence Moore II) returns from fighting in Vietnam. Yes, all those concerned viewers who didn’t like Bruce reenlisting earlier this season can exhale: “People were adamant, ‘If the brother dies, we’re going to be so upset,’” exec producer Saladin K. Patterson recalls. (Credit: ABC/Mathew Miller) The welcome-home celebration halts when the family meets Bruce’s girlfriend, Tammy, who they had no idea existed. While overseas “he’s had a relationship with her through letters for the past few months,” says Patterson. Add in that she’s in her mid-30s, divorced, and raising an 8-year-old son, and the family has questions, which come out in a comedic fantasy sequence as they wonder why...

“Dave” has been renewed for Season 3 at FX.
The show, based on the rise of hip-hop star Lil Dicky, stars Dave Burd as himself, as well as GaTa, Andrew Santino, Taylor Misiak, Travis Bennett and Christine Ko.
The show’s second season debuted last summer on Fxx, focusing on the aftermath of Dave’s relationship with Ally (Misiak) and conflicts with his hype man and creative partner GaTa, whose real-life struggle with bipolar disorder is portrayed on screen.
Season 2 ended on a high note, with GaTa joining Lil Dicky on stage at the VMAs for a euphoric duet of the song “We Good.”
Burd told Variety that he cast GaTa as himself in part because their relationship is “borderline impossible to replicate,” and he was “extremely confident” GaTa would be able to nail the humor of the series.
“I was definitely hesitant because I didn’t want to tear down my wall,...
