It’s time for another episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, and with this one we’re preparing for director Eli Roth’s long-awaited slasher Thanksgiving – which reaches theatres this Friday, November 17th – by looking back at his 2002 feature debut Cabin Fever (watch it Here). To hear all about it, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Roth from a screenplay he wrote with Randy Pearlstein, Cabin Fever has the following synopsis: Bert, a college student vacationing with friends in the mountains, mistakenly shoots a local man with a skin infection while hunting in the woods. Panicking, he abandons the scene and leaves the man for dead. When the man stumbles into a reservoir, he infects the water supply, and soon one of Bert’s friends becomes infected. The friends struggle to stop the contagious, flesh-eating disease while on the run from a group...

"I wrote that movie when I was 22 and when I wrote it, everyone told me, 'This will never get made, that is a piece of s*** and this is a terrible script,'" Eli Roth said to Collider in 2015 of his debut feature film "Cabin Fever." Yet here we are, a full 20 years after the movie was released in the fall of 2003. Not only did the movie become a hit in its own right, but it spawned several sequels and even a remake in 2016. "Now I can say the script that everyone hated I can say was so good they made it twice [Laughs]," Roth quipped in the same interview.
Roth has reason to be a little bit smug about the whole thing.

Whether or not you’re a fan of Eli Roth‘s 2002 feature, Cabin Fever, there are elements that make it one of the early 21st century’s more memorable horror films. As a debut it marked Roth as an energetic film maker to watch, the practical makeup/gore effectively played up the always-disturbing body-horror angle, and it put a fresh spin on the cabin-in-the-woods scenario by avoiding both slasher killers and the supernatural. It also introduced us, without reason or explanation, to the “pancakes!” kid. Sure it’s heavily flawed, but it’s also a nasty little shocker that accomplishes its admittedly slight goals with a messy efficiency. Like any moderately successful genre film it also started its own franchise with both a sequel and a prequel hitting home video in the years since. Neither managed to recreate Roth’s raw, manic mayhem, but they both upped the gross, body-centric gore for those of us into that...

The second Cthulhu figure in a three-part series from Warpo will be available this fall. Also: a trailer for The Inhabitants, first details on IFC Midnight's acquisition of Cabin Fever, El Rey Network's Stephen King marathon, and Last Shift on Blu-ray.
Warpo's Cthulhu Figure Series: Press Release: "Chicago, Il (September 9, 2015): Warpo, creators of the Legends of Cthulhu action figures, today released part two of three of Cthulhu: The Great Old One, their retro commercial series for the forthcoming 12” Cthulhu figure.
In keeping with the company’s method manufacturing, the process of development by which Team Warpo creates everything with the mindset and methods of the late 1970s to mid-1980s, the commercial series was created with the look and feel of being an “uploaded artifact” from the era – a rip from an old VHS tape that was used over and over again to capture storylines for the sandbox adventures of childhood.

On September 12, 2003, when I was...well, never mind how old I was, a little horror movie called "Cabin Fever" hit U.S. screens and became a surprise hit, grossing over $30 million on a $1.5 million budget and launching the film career of future "Hostel" director Eli Roth. Now IFC Midnight has acquired North American rights to a previously-reported remake of the film, which it will release it in 2016. “It was a great opportunity to recreate an iconic film for a new generation of horror fans,” said director Travis Z, who shot the film from Eli Roth and Randy Pearlstein's original script (a la Gus Van Sant's 1998 "Psycho" remake). “I am a die hard fan of horror films and the king of horror Eli Roth trusted me to re-imagine his film. I was not going to fail.” Question: what does Travis Z mean "a new generation of horror fans"? If...

(Cbr) Eli Roth has made just four feature films in the past 12 years, but one of them is already getting a remake of sorts. Deadline reports that "Cabin Fever," the director’s 2002 feature debut, will get a remake or, more accurately, a reshoot. Basically, director Travis Zariwny will use the same script Roth wrote with Randy Pearlstein for the new version. Roth is on board as producer for the film, which starts shooting this week in in Portland, Oregon. There cast includes Gage Golightly ("Teen Wolf"), Dustin Ingram ("True Blood"), Samuel Davis ("From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series"), Matthew Daddario ("Delivery Man") and Nadine Crocker ("Some Guy Who Kills People"). Zariwny helmed the sci-fi creeper "Scavengers" as well as "Intruder," which is supposed to come out this year.

Back in April, it was announced that Eli Roth‘s horror-comedy opus Cabin Fever would be getting remade, so that a new generation who couldn’t afford getting in trouble with their parents again to sneak into an R-rated movie would now be allowed to witness the grotesque beauty of bein’ young and havin’ your skin fall off. And pancakes. Oh, the pancakes. While it seemed strange at the time of the announcement that a film just released in 2002 would already be rebooted (but hey, weirder things have happened), there was at least comfort in the fact that someone — namely new director Travis Zariwny (Intruder) — saw something in the original that lit a fire and produced new ideas and torrents of gore. Think of how many horror films you’ve seen that have involved getting a wild bunch of cute young things up to the spooky cabin that someone has clearly neglected to clean for a couple...

It was 2002's indie horror tale "Cabin Fever" that announced the arrival on the scene of filmmaker Eli Roth. Roth's subsequent two "Hostel" films earned a reputation for torture porn and maybe taking the sadism too far.
Yet "Cabin Fever" still holds a decent reputation for not just the ick factor - such as the infamous leg shaving scene - but its absurdist comedy moments as well. It was a refreshing film in that there wasn't a killer stalking this group of teens in the woods but rather a really nasty flesh-eating virus.
With two forgotten Dtv sequels under its belt, Armory Films and Pelican Point Media decided earlier this year to reboot the property. Today, The Wrap reports that Eli Roth is returning for the new "Cabin Fever" and will serve as executive producer.
There's more though, it turns out the reboot will be a direct remake with Roth...

Eli Roth's Cabin Fever is now twelve years old: plenty old enough, apparently, to be ripe for the remake treatment. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to turn the cabin-in-the-woods / flesh-eating-virus horror into a franchise, a new team has decided to start again from scratch. Travis Zariwny (Intruder) is the director, and the unforntuate kids this time are Gage Golightly (from MTV's Teen Wolf series), Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis, Matthew Daddario and Nadine Crocker.Roth is acting as executive producer and is also the writer. That's not because he's re-tooled the script, but because Zariwny is working from the exact same screenplay that Roth co-wrote with Randy Pearlstein just over a decade ago.“Travis had an amazing vision for my original script," says Roth, "and as a scary movie fan I really wanted to see it. There was a rumor going around earlier this year that Eli Roth's bloody horror film Cabin Fever, which is only 12 years old, was going to get the remake treatment. But who's directing and writing this time around? Find out details below! After spending Halloween in Hell, this week "Ugly Americans" visits the world of reality television in "Trolling for Terror". After Randall joins the cast of sleazy reality show "Night Terrors", the program’s unbalanced producer becomes obsessed with Mark.
The series, which airs at 10:30 pm following “South Park”, follows Mark (voiced by Matt Oberg), an employee of the “Department of Integration,” as he helps new citizens, both human and "other," adapt to the hectic life in New York City. There are easier tasks than weaning vampires off blood, socializing land-whales and housebreaking werewolves, but Mark is up to the challenge. Between his stressful job, a zombie roommate and a demon girlfriend, Mark’s lucky if he can sneak in a few minutes of sleep.
In addition to Mark Lilly, the "Ugly Americans" cast features Randall Skeffington, Mark's zombie roommate (voiced by Kurt Metzger); Callie Maggotbone, Mark's demon boss and...

Last week we put Qe contributor Joseph Proimakis on the horn with modern horror icon Eli Roth to get the skinny on the new, unrated Blu-ray release of Cabin Fever (out on February 16, 2010).
Along the way, Roth scooped us on his dealings with the controversial Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (review), his burning desire to make a classic exorcism flick, where exactly he's at with his apocalyptic scifi actioner, Endangered Species, and much much more.
So, without further to-do, read our interview with Roth after the break.
So, Cabin Fever on Blu Ray sounds exciting. Have you had to revisit the film, perhaps make some enhancements of some sort?
Well, Lionsgate was really supportive about making a great Blu Ray, and we went back to the original negative to transfer the movie. So the picture looks spectacular, all the colors, everything, it’s great, we dust-cleaned it, it really,...

When Ti West publicly disowned Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever I was desperate to see the finished film. If Lionsgate, a studio known for staying Out of their talents way, needed to re-cut it and change the ending then it must be a gong-show. Well, I don't know if I'm relieved or disappointed, but either Lionsgate fixed whatever was wrong with it, or Cabin Fever 2 was never the turkey West made out to be. Quite the opposite in fact.
Cabin Fever 2 is a fun and fast-paced, gross-out comedy with likable actors and an irresistible penchant for the juvenile. Easily as good as other recent films of its ilk (I'm thinking Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer and Dance of the Dead), the film is a deliriously goofy blend of...
