From December through February, we followed the progress as writer/director Parker Finn assembled the cast for a sequel to his 2022 horror film Smile (read our review Here, watch the movie Here) – a project we’re referring to as Smile 2 until we hear otherwise. The cast includes Naomi Scott of Aladdin and Charlie’s Angels, Lukas Gage of The White Lotus and You, Rosemarie DeWitt of La La Land and the Poltergeist remake, Dylan Gelula of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Dream Scenario, Raúl Castillo of Army of the Dead and Knives Out, Miles Gutierrez-Riley of The Wilds and On The Come Up, and Kyle Gallner (Red State), reprising the role he played in the first movie. The film is aiming for an October 18, 2024 theatrical release date, so we knew it had to be going to production soon, if it wasn’t already filming – and now Gage has confirmed that production is already underway.

Kal Penn admits he didn’t know much about Anna Nicole Smith’s physician, Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, before he was approached to star as the doctor in the indie adaptation of his memoir, “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor.”
“But then I read the doctor’s autobiography and found it interesting and compelling,” Penn told me Monday night at the South Asians at the Oscars party on the Paramount lot.
Variety’s Tatiana Siegel exclusively reported Feb. 23 that Penn is set to portray Sandeep in “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor,” which chronicles Smith’s final days before dying of an accidental overdose in 2007 at the age of 39. Kapoor became entangled in Smith’s death when reports surfaced that he wrote her prescriptions to addictive drugs.

Kal Penn has been cast to star as a pivotal person in the final days of Anna Nicole Smith‘s life.
The 46-year-old actor has been cast to portray Dr. Sandeep Kapoor in the upcoming movie Trust Me, I’m a Doctor, according to Variety.
The news comes nearly three weeks after the 17 year anniversary of the late model and actress’ death.
Keep reading to find out more…
Trust Me, I’m a Doctor takes place during the final days leading up to her death, and is based off of her doctor, Dr Sandeep Kapoor‘s, 2017 book of the same name.
According to Variety, the upcoming movie “follows Smith’s pain-medication doctor whose life was turned upside down when he was implicated in the wrongful death trials of the one-time Playboy centerfold.”
Anna‘s death was ruled an accidental drug overdose of chloral hydrate, which became more toxic combined with other prescription drugs in her system.

Anna Nicole Smith died 17 years ago this month, but the fascination with the blond bombshell continues unabated.
Kal Penn is set to star in “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor,” a film that chronicles the final days of the actress and model whose accidental overdose death in 2007 at the age of 39 sparked a tabloid feeding frenzy. “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor,” which is based on Dr. Sandeep Kapoor’s 2017 book of the same name, marks the second film about Smith to move forward in recent months. Meghan Markle’s acting career didn’t make her a household name. But Meghan’s movies and TV shows did raise her profile enough to where she met Prince Harry and became one of the most famous people in the world.
Meghan hasn’t acted since marrying Harry in 2018. Despite the renewed popularity of her TV drama Suits, the duchess has limited her on-screen appearances to interviews, documentaries, and a commercial cameo.

In recent weeks, writer/director Parker Finn has been assembling the cast for a sequel to his 2022 horror film Smile (read our review Here, watch the movie Here) – a project we’re referring to as Smile 2 until we hear otherwise. Dylan Gelula may be best known for playing the role of Xanthippe Voorhees in 13 episodes of the Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt… but since I haven’t gotten around to watching that show yet, where I know her from is the recent Nicolas Cage movie Dream Scenario, where her character has a very memorable interaction with Cage. Since Gelula’s section of the movie is also the part that sticks with me more than any other, I’m glad to hear (via Deadline) that she has been cast in writer/director Parker Finn’s sequel to his 2022 horror film Smile (read our review Here, watch the movie Here) – a project we’re referring to as Smile 2 until we hear otherwise. The film is aiming for an October 18, 2024 theatrical release date, so they need to get this one into production very soon.

Everyone loves an underdog story. We love them as much as sports movies and precocious kids. The only other thing we love as much as those is profanity. When you combine those together, you have a tricky project that could be masterful, or it could be a disaster. Luckily, no one can drop an f-bomb quite like Snoop Dogg, and he does that in his latest film, The Underdoggs.
In the great tradition of The Bad News Bears, Little Giants, and Hardball, The Underdoggs stars Snoop as a washed-up former NFL wide receiver who has burned all the bridges in his career. With a chance to redeem himself by coaching a group of pee-wee football players in his hometown of Long Beach, Two Js encounters more than he bargained for, as coaching is much more than just standing around basking in your greatness. The puckish appeal of Charles Stone III’s The Underdoggs, a new spin on The Bad News Bears, is apparent from its opening title card, which offers a warning that its R rating was well earned, that no child should watch it, and that, well, the kids you really have to worry about are the ones whose parents don’t allow them to watch R-rated films.

Comedy Central is reaching back to the past to keep its long-running “The Daily Show” going in the present.
After scuttling a months-long search for a new host, the Paramount Global network said it has enlisted Jon Stewart, who presided over the late-night mainstay’s most popular era, to serve as its host on Monday nights throughout the 2024 election cycle and to run the program. He is expected to play an oversight role at “Daily” that could extend through 2025, and will start his on-air duties February 12. Various “Daily Show” correspondents will host the program Tuesday through Thursday nights, and Jen Flanz, the current executive producer, will continue her duties on the show.

Jon Stewart is returning as the host and executive producer of Comedy Central’s “Daily Show.” Before you get too excited, the assignment is part-time, and the plan is for him to stay on as host through the November 2024 presidential election cycle, and EP at least through 2025.
Stewart will host the program only on Mondays, but executive produce every episode. The other evenings will be hosted by a rotating panel of the show’s “All-Star Correspondents.” If you’re wondering why Stewart is taking the Monday slot, it’s because that’s traditionally the most-watched “Daily Show” episode of the week, and acts as catch up for all the news that’s gone on over the weekend.
Although “The Daily Show” began in 1996 with Craig Kilborn as its host, the show rose in the public consciousness during Stewart’s time hosting from 1999 to 2015. Under Kilborn, the show was mostly irreverent and focused on pop culture.

Jon Stewart is back at The Daily Show. After a yearlong search for Trevor Noah’s replacement, the longtime host and Noah’s predecessor has agreed to return on Monday nights through the 2024 election.
The new setup, a major coup for the show and for parent company Paramount, is set to begin Feb. 12. For the remainder of the week, the Comedy Central series will rely on a team of correspondents, which are likely to include Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic, Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta and Dulcé Sloan. Stewart, who spent 16 years at the show, the majority of them Emmy-winning, will be heavily involved as an executive producer on the other nights as well. The move comes after Stewart prematurely exited his Apple TV+ show, The Problem, following creative differences between the iPhone maker and its host over potential topics and guests.

The near-constant rotation of villains in the seven seasons of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" provided ample opportunity for guest stars, and some of these roles went to some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Sitcom star John Ritter is a killer robot in the season 2 episode "Ted," Kal Penn of "Harold & Kumar" plays the victim of a cursed beer in season 4, and "Enchanted" star Amy Adams is featured as Tara's estranged cousin in an episode of season 5. But even in that star-studded milieu, some of the most unforgettable performances in the series were given by breakout actors and indie darlings, like SAG Award-winning multihyphenate Clea DuVall.
You might have forgotten that DuVall made an appearance in "Buffy" — in fact, the actor's character didn't appear very much on-screen at all. In "Out of Sight, Out of Mind," DuVall plays Sunnydale High School student Marcie Ross, a girl who is so shy she turns invisible,...

After holding a year-long bake-off among various celebrities to find the next host of its signature “The Daily Show,” Comedy Central is going to try a new recipe.
When the program returns from a hiatus, it is expected to rely heavily on a team of correspondents to lead each night, according to three people familiar with the matter, though it is not clear if the network has struck upon its final assemblage of talent. “Daily Show” could also rely on guest appearances by some of the celebrities who have hosted the program since Trevor Noah, the last permanent presence behind the desk, quit abruptly in late 2022.
Those looking for an immediate successor for Noah won’t find one — at least, not yet.

Comedy Central is set to share a long-awaited update on the next chapter for “The Daily Show” next week.
The announcement, which follows the late night program winning a Primetime Emmy Award on Monday for Outstanding Talk Series, comes as the network has been searching for a permanent replacement for Trevor Noah for over a year. Noah, who took over hosting duties from Jon Stewart in 2015, exited the show in December 2022.
During the Emmys, former “Daily Show” correspondent Roy Wood Jr. could be seen mouthing “Please hire a host” during Noah’s acceptance speech. Wood himself retweeted the clip, with the caption, “Chill, fam I was trying to do that in the low.”

Exclusive: The Daily Show was a surprise winner at the Emmys on Monday night.
The Comedy Central series won the award for Outstanding Talk Series for Trevor Noah’s final season, an emotional end to his seven-year run. Many expected Stephen Colbert to win for The Late Show or Jimmy Kimmel Live! but it was Noah that picked up the award, becoming the first Black man to lead a show to victory in the category.
Afterwards, a number of questions were directed towards Noah and the team about the future of The Daily Show, a fair ask given that it has now been over a year since Noah left the show.
Deadline understands that over the next few months, the focus will be on its correspondents to lead the show through this election year, rather than another phalanx of celebrity guest hosts.

A celebration of “The Daily Show” took place earlier this week — but not on the network that airs it.
The program won an Emmy award for “Outstanding Variety Series” and its former host, Trevor Noah, and one of its former top contributors, Roy Wood, Jr., were on hand to take part. Veteran behind-the-scenes executives like Jen Flanz, who runs the program, and Daniel Radosh, a writer who has been with the series since the days of Jon Stewart, were easily viewed.
Despite the hoopla, there has not been a new episode of “The Daily Show” broadcast on its home, Paramount Global’s Comedy Central, since Kal Penn served as a guest on host on Thursday, December 14. There has not been a regular host of the series since Noah, who took over for Jon Stewart in 2015, left unexpectedly in December of 2022. You can’t blame the network for the whole thing.

Astute Emmy watchers noticed former “Daily Show” correspondent sending a silent message to Comedy Central producers on Monday night: “Please hire a host.”
The show has had rotating hosts since Trevor Noah stepped down in December 2022. Among them was Wood, who quit in December 2023 as the search for a permanent host dragged on.
Wood himself retweeted the clip, with the caption, “Chill, fam I was trying to do that in the low.”

We’ve seen a couple casting announcements for writer/director Parker Finn’s sequel to his 2022 horror film Smile (read our review Here, watch the movie Here), which is aiming for an October 18, 2024 theatrical release date. Last month, it was announced that Naomi Scott of Aladdin and Charlie’s Angels has been cast in Smile 2, and yesterday we learned that Lukas Gage of The White Lotus and You is in the cast as well… and when seeing those announcements, I could only wonder, “Where is Kyle Gallner?” A genre regular, Gallner had a role in Smile, and his character made it through the whole movie. So why wasn’t his presence in Smile 2 being confirmed? Well, thankfully, now it has. The Wrap reports that Gallner will be reprising the role of police detective Joel in the film. Also joining the cast is Rosemarie DeWitt, whose previous credits include La La Land...

Writer/director Parker Finn is gearing up to head into production on a sequel to his 2022 horror film Smile (read our review Here, watch the movie Here), aiming for an October 18, 2024 theatrical release date. Last month, it was announced that Naomi Scott of Aladdin and Charlie’s Angels has been cast in Smile 2, and now she has a co-star. Deadline reports that Scott is being joined in the cast by Lukas Gage, whose previous credits include episodes of Euphoria, The White Lotus, You, and the soon-to-wrap-up Fargo season 5. I first saw Gage in the Blumhouse horror production Into the Dark: Midnight Kiss.
Details on the characters Scott and Gage will be playing in Smile 2 have not been revealed. Plot details are also being kept under wraps.
Smile was based on Finn’s short film Laura Hasn’t Slept (watch it Here), which won the Special Jury Recognition Prize in SXSW’s Midnight Short category.

Kal Penn hopes the second time’s the charm.
The actor last week completed his second turn behind the desk of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” which has been seeking a successor to host Trevor Noah for the better part of a year, a process that was delayed by the recent Hollywood labor strikes. Penn joins comedians Sarah Silverman and Leslie Jones as well as Charlamagne Tha God as hosts who were invited to take one more crack at the assignment after doing a previous one.

It’s been a strange year for late-night and things are only going to get weirder.
All of the late-night shows were dark between May and October as as a result of the writers strike and the genre lost one of its longer-running shows as The Late Late Show, which has run for over 5,000 episodes since 1995, is to be replaced by an old Comedy Central game show.
The change hasn’t been quite as significant as last year when James Corden and Trevor Noah revealed they’d be stepping down, Warner Bros. Discovery’s new regime killed Samantha Bee’s Full Frontal and Desus & Mero, who, for some, were the duo to reinvigorate the field, broke up.
Late-night, it seems, is just ticking along.

Chris McCarthy has a big decision to make.
Nearly twelve months on to the day that Trevor Noah said goodbye to The Daily Show, the Comedy Central series still does not have a permanent host.
But a decision is expected soon with sources telling Deadline that Paramount is facing pressure to name a new host by the end of the year.
There have been a number of shortlists and stars mentioned throughout the process, which was hampered by the writers and actors strike, and obviously there was the Hasan Minhaj situation, where the Patriot Act star basically had the job before that New Yorker article came out.
But many in the late-night and comedy community believe that McCarthy and his team already have viable options right under their noses and with it the opportunity to shake-up the talk show landscape with a fresh take and in the process bolster diversity...

Kal Penn and Charlamagne Tha God will each take another stab behind the desk of Comedy Central’s venerable “Daily Show” as the Paramount Global network keeps looking for a new permanent host.
Charlamagne Tha God will lead the show during the week of December 4 while Penn will orchestrate things during the week of December 11, Comedy Central said Tuesday.
The network has been conducting a protracted search for new talent since earlier this year, in a bid to replace the previous master of ceremonies, Trevor Noah. Penn and Charlamagne join a crowd of second-time guest hosts that also include Leslie Jones and Sarah Silverman. Several members of the “Daily” correspondent team have also taken turns leading affairs, sometimes on their own or in groups, or in an assemblage that includes the guest host of the week.

Scott Pilgrim is back, but not in the way anyone expected. The new Netflix animated series “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” is both a continuation of the “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” story and a complete recontextualization of what transpired, twisting and morphing the source material into something completely new. And who better to do it than the author responsible for creating “Scott Pilgrim” in the first place?
The anime “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” is created by Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski, and while it begins similarly to “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” a shocking twist at the end of Episode 1 soon takes this story in a different direction.

It’s been over a decade since Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) last graced our screens, but the stoner duo could finally be returning for Harold & Kumar 4.
Harold & Kumar screenwriters Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg spoke with ComicBook.com to confirm that Harold & Kumar 4 is something that everyone involved wants to do. “Well, first of all, we are dying to make another one. Popular medical drama House has just been added to Hulu on Tuesday (November 7)!
The eight-season Fox series centered on Dr. Gregory House, who is devoid of anything resembling bedside manner and wouldn’t even talk to his patients if he could get away with it. Dealing with his own constant physical pain, he uses a cane that seems to punctuate his acerbic, brutally honest demeanor.
While his behavior can border on antisocial, House is a brilliant diagnostician whose unconventional thinking and flawless instincts afford him widespread respect. An infectious disease specialist, House thrives on the challenge of solving medical puzzles in order to save lives.
The series featured quite the cast over the course of it’s run: Hugh Laurie, Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps, Jesse Spencer, Lisa Edelstein, Jennifer Morrison, Peter Jacobson, Olivia Wilde, Kal Penn, Amber Tamblyn, Odette Annable and Charlyne Yi.
