Starz is eyeing a further expansion of its Power franchise — this one a prequel featuring two of the key characters in the original series.
The premium cable outlet is developing a drama titled Origins, which would follow younger versions of Ghost and Tommy, characters played by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora in Power (Sikora also stars in the spinoff Power Book IV: Force). The project would be the fourth spinoff of Power, which premiered in 2014, following Book II: Ghost, Book III: Raising Kanan and Force.
“As we approach the 10-year anniversary of Power it is incredible to witness the enormous connection our fans have with the Power universe,” said Kathryn Busby, president of programming at Starz. “We can’t wait to see how Origins will further evolve this dynamic franchise while bringing fresh, gripping, and expansive storytelling to our audience.”

Ghost and Tommy are getting their own “Power” origins story. As Starz continues to span the “Power” universe into multiple series, the network is ready to announce the official fourth spinoff. The network confirmed Wednesday that it is developing the “Power” prequel series “Origins,” which will follow the beginning story of characters Ghost and Tommy, played in the original “Power” by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora.
Sascha Penn (“Power Book III: Raising Kanan”) will serve as the executive producer for “Origins,” which comes from Lionsgate TV. (It’s unclear whether it will actually be called “Power Book V: Origins.”)
The first “Power,” which debuted in 2014, starred Hardwick as James St. Patrick, a nightlife entrepreneur who is also a massively successful cocaine distributor known on the streets as “Ghost.” He rules that empore alongside his childhood friend Tommy, played by Sikora.

Starz is expanding the Power Universe again with a prequel spinoff series that will reunite Ghost and Tommy.
In the vein of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, which follows the youthful years of everyone’s favorite foe, Kanan Stark (played by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson), the new series Origin will follow the early years of the beloved duo of Ghost and Tommy’s (played by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora in the Og series).
Fans of Raising Kanan have been asking for seasons when Ghost and Tommy would run into Kanan since the teens met in high school, yet those characters had never been cast. But as Tommy reappeared after Power in Power Book II: Ghost before spinning off into his series Power Book IV: Force, it would make sense if Ghost and Tommy appeared in Raising Kanan before Origins. Power Book III: Raising Kanan will introduce Breeze in season 3, creator and showrunner Sascha Penn hints. The ’90s set drama series tells the origin story of Kanan Stark (Mekai Curtis), the character made infamous on Power by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. Raising Kanan follows the Queens-born teen coming of age under the guidance of his drug queenpin mother, Raquel “Raq” Thomas (Patina Miller), and his uncles, Marvin (London Brown) and Lou Lou (Malcolm Mays). Kanan is also very close to his cousin Jukebox (Hailey Kilgore).
However, the introduction of Breeze is poised to change everything.

Over the last two seasons, "Raising Kanan" has delivered its fair share of unexpected moments. However, the most surprising of them all has arguably been the turn of events in Raquel (Patina Miller) and Unique's (Joey Bada) relationship that takes place in season two's shocking finale that aired on Oct. 23.
The two Southside Jamaica, Queens, drug lords started out as sworn enemies in season one, with Raquel pinning a cop's attempted murder on her foe and sending him to jail until his name was cleared. But after calling a truce at the beginning of season two, Raquel and Unique grew to be allies through their rocky arrangement with New Jersey's Italian mob. However, it seems like the pair's relationship may soon grow into something more.

Coleman will star in a key role in season three of Power Book III: Raising Kanan. It comes after the drama series’ dramatic cliffhanger at the end of season two, which aired on Sunday.
Coleman, who has starred in series such as FX’s The Americans, will play Ronnie Mathis, Unique’s older brother, who was recently released from prison. Ronnie’s stoic demeanor belies a shocking ruthlessness. It’s not that Ronnie’s immoral, it’s that he’s amoral, conscienceless, unyielding and vindictive.

There's a street war brewing in "Raising Kanan" that's caused a family and its empire to fall apart. Now, it'll take a whole lot of manpower and trust to put it all back together.
"Raising Kanan"'s epic season two finale titled "If Y'Don't Know, Now Y'Know," which aired Oct. 23, put a lot into perspective for Kanan (Mekai Curtis), Raquel (Patina Miller), Lou (Malcolm Mays), Marvin (London Brown), and Jukebox (Hailey Kilgore). Between the shootouts that may (or may not) have resulted in the deaths of Jukebox's mother Kenya (LeToya Luckett), Lou's artist Zisa (Paulina Singer), and Unique's (Joey Bada) right-hand man Worrell (John Clay III); Raquel getting snaked by her plug and out of a distribution deal; and heat from the mob coming down on everyone, things are in complete disarray.
"Let's just say that pretty much everyone who took a bullet in the finale is in dire straits.

We all know Power never dies, and with each passing season of the hit series Power Book II: Raising Kanan, we should be thanking our lucky stars that's the case.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 2 was a hit from start to finish, furthering the legend of Kanan Stark and continuing to showcase an incredible cavalcade of characters to help tell this twisted tale of money, power, greed, and family.
Fresh off the jaw-dropping season finale, we talked with series creator and showrunner Sascha Penn about Kanan and Raq's fractured dynamic, Marvin's season two journey, and That ending of Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 2 Episode 10.
I wanted to ask first about Kanan and Raq and the status of their relationship at the end of season two because it seems like they've reached this point where they're further apart than ever. So, is there a path forward for them, and what could that look like?...

Season 2 of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” ended with an explosive shoot-out between Raquel (Patina Miller), Lou (Malcolm Mays), and Marvin (London Brown), who battled Sal’s (Michael Rispoli) Mafia in New Jersey. Nearly four months have passed since Starz’s sprawling “Power” universe was last on the air, following the April season finale of the Tommy Egan-focused “Force.” That’s not much time, and certainly not the longest span of time between installments in “Power” creator Courtney Kemp’s ever-widening tableau of cocaine entrepreneurs. But it feels like a long time, evidence that Kemp has succeeded into turning “Power” into a Marvel-style narrative ecosystem, for better and for worse.
The “for worse” part comes when any extended amount of time passes, when the richness and depth of a long-running, hyperconnected story triggers the audience’s anxiety about their ability to keep track of all its machinations. For example, “Force” reintroduced O.G. character Liliana (Audrey Esparza), who hadn’t been seen in over seven years since her initial three-episode arc in “Power.” The move ultimately paid off, but it also signaled to the fanbase that,...

When Power Book III: Raising Kanan premieres its second season on August 14, we're in for a lot of drama.
Raquel "Raq" Thomas (Patina Miller) is preparing her son, Kanan Stark (MeKai Curtis), to take over for her.
"You're getting to an age, Kanan, where you're going to want to start figuring out what you want for your life," Raq says in the new trailer.
Raq is well and truly in control of everything when the second season picks up, at least according to the trailer.
Kanan's life was on the line, but it looks like he's ready to start anew.
Understandably, there are some skeptics when it comes to Kanan taking over.
"I know who my son is and I know what he's capable of," she fires back.
"I can't protect you the way that I thought I could, Mom," Kanan says at one point.
It's certainly an interesting dynamic,...

50 Cent's evolution from hip-hop icon to TV mastermind might still be a shock to some people, but the transformation has been amazing to witness. Laverne “Jukebox” Ganner is a fascinating and complicated character on Starz’s franchise prequel Power Book III: Raising Kanan. And Hailey Kilgore, the Broadway actress who plays her, hopes fans can accept and embrace her beyond being gay.
The crime-family drama will further explore Jukebox’s blossoming relationship with Nicole (played by Annabelle Zasowski, Divorce), a rich white girl she met in choir, when the show airs this Sunday at 8/7c. That said, Kilgore and series’ creator, Sascha Penn, pushed to make sure the exploration feels fleshed-out and layered to delineate where Laverne stops and Jukebox begins.

“Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” the third “book” in the growing “Power Universe” on Starz, has been renewed for a second season ahead of its debut on July 18. The prequel’s greenlight comes amidst strong demand for spinoffs of rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s original “Power” show, which currently holds an average critics score of 81% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
“One season isn’t enough to tell the coming of age story of Kanan Stark and his mother, Raq, a fierce and successful woman who is a force of nature,” said Jeffrey Hirsch, President and CEO of Starz, in a statement. “The anticipation globally for more of the ‘Power’ Universe made it clear that the Kanan story needs to continue.”
