Motion capture and live action are blended for Mowgli, a new, big screen, 3D adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic The Jungle Book.
Walt Disney Studios released the animated musical classic in 1967 and a retelling of it with a live version in 2016.

While live-blogging the Oscars you really don't get too much of a chance to take in all the acceptance speeches. I catch a few moments here and there, and I can pretty much tell when the air is being let out of the room as well as those moments where someone is really capturing the moment. What I've put together below are the five speeches where I think the winner really managed to stand-out. I also love the true excitement coupled with the words chosen in these speeches. Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave, especially, seemed to capture the room with her infectious smile as much as Jennifer Lawrence a year before, not to forget her brother, Peter, who photobombed Ellen's Twitter-breaking selfie and is clearly someone very special in Lupita's life and she in his. The only truly strange thing about these speeches is John Ridley and Steve McQueen failing...

Lupita Nyong’o, 12 Years a Slave
Yes! Thank you to the Academy for this incredible recognition. It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s. And so I want to salute the spirit of Patsey for her guidance. And for Solomon, thank you for telling her story and your own. Steve McQueen, you charge everything you fashion with a breath of your own spirit. Thank you so much for putting me in this position. This has been the joy of my life. Last night the 2014 BAFTA Awards took place, hosted by Stephen Fry from London's Royal Opera House and it was 12 Years a Slave taking Best Film and Best Actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor while Gravity was honored for Outstanding British Film and Alfonso Cuaron was named Best Director. Interestingly enough, 12 Years a Slave only won the two awards while Gravity was the night's biggest winner taking home an additional four awards in technical categories, including Score (Steven Price) and Cinematography (Emmanuel Lubezki). It's interesting to see a list of winners where Dallas Buyers Club wasn't nominated for a single award considering its two main characters played by Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto are, more or less, considered locks to win Best Actor and Supporting Actor. As for the BAFTA Awards, it was Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips) taking Best Supporting Actor and while Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine) added another Best Actress award to...

Gravity, 12 Years A Slave and American Hustle lead this year's collection of BAFTA Film Award winners. Here's the full list...
Last night, lots of people headed off to London's Royal Opera House, where Stephen Fry hosted the British Academy Film Awards. That's the BAFTAs to you and us.
The BAFTAs used to be one of those ceremonies where people sent speeches to be read by other people, but these days, it seems really quite posh. Most of the nominees seemed to be in attendance, even those who didn't win, and if it carries on at this rate, the BBC may actually show us the whole event, rather than editing it down to two hours, to be shown a further two hours after it actually took place.

Yesterday night, the Visual Effect Society held their 12th annual awards show, and surprising no one, Alfonso Cuaron’s Oscar hopeful Gravity was the big winner. The film took home six Ves awards, making it by far the dominant feature on display. The only other feature competing in that category that made any dent at the awards was The Lone Ranger, which won Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Feature Motion Picture. As for Gravity’s half dozen wins, they were in the categories of Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture (their version of Best Picture, basically), Outstanding Created Environment in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture, Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture,...

Today was a busy day for some of the smaller guilds with the Visual Effects Society, the Cinema Audio Society, and the Makeup and Hairstylists Guilds all announcing their nominations for 2013.
First, we have the Ves, whose main category to look at is “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture,” where we find Gravity and four other nominees that are just going to have to be happy with the fact that they got nominated. This is perhaps the easiest category to call in the entirety of awards season, and I don’t mean just here, but for the Oscar as well (Last year’s winner, Life of Pi, easily took this category before going on to claim the Oscar). It’s true that films like The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Star Trek Into Darkness had outstanding effects as well, but nothing even came close to the amazing,...

Following months of overwhelming critical and audience acclaim and numerous year-end awards, Warner Bros. Pictures is bringing Alfonso Cuarón’s cinematic achievement Gravity back to big screens nationwide.
The film, which stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, will be re-released on more than 900 screens on January 17, 2014, it was announced today by Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.
Originally released on October 4, 2013, Gravity instantly became a favorite of both critics and audiences. It has since become one of the most honored films of the year, most recently bringing a Golden Globe Award for Best Director to Alfonso Cuarón. The film has also received 11 BAFTA Award nominations and 10 Critics’ Choice Award nominations, both including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress (Bullock)*.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced the nominations for the British Academy Film Awards and Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity" led the pack with 11 nominations including Best Film, British Film (who knew "Gravity" was a British movie?), Director for Cuaron, Screenplay for Cuaron and his son Jonas, and Actress for Sandra Bullock.
The biggest snub in my humble opinion was "Dallas Buyers Club" which appeared nowhere on the nominations list. Apparently, the British Academy did not deem Matthew McConaughey or Jared Leto award-worthy!
The BAFTA Awards will take place on Feb. 16 at the Royal Opera house in London. Will "Gravity" emerge as the victorious movie that night? And by the way, "Gravity" was my No. 1 favorite film of 2013!
Here's the complete list of BAFTA nominations:

Early this morning saw the announcement of the nominations for the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) awards for 2013. For the most part, they look like all of the other guild nominations we’ve seen over the past month or so (including all five director nominees who were just nominated for the DGA’s top award), but there are a few interesting differences to take note of.
First off, Philomena has a much stronger presence here, but given that it is a British film, it’s hardly surprising. You may also notice a lot of love for Behind the Candelabra, a film that was only shown on TV in the States, making it ineligible for theatrical awards.
However, aside from that, just about all the major players are here. Gravity leads the pack with 11 nominations, including Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Best Director, and Best Actress. 12 Years a...

The nominations didn’t offer any huge surprises, but there are some notable developments.

You’ve never heard a score quite like this. Director Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity is nothing akin to a sci-fi fantasy world, but rather depicts the stark realities of being marooned in the harshest environment known to mankind. It is a real game changer. Audiences will be given the illusion of being in space in ways that are both totally convincing and utterly visceral.
The film opened at #1, had a record setting $55 million opening weekend in the U.S. and is set for a November debut in the United Kingdom. Gravity premiered to critical acclaim at the Venice Film Festival with screenings also held at the Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival. The film will play this week among the highly anticipated Galas at the BFI London Film Festival.

If the 2D trailers and tv spots for Gravity give you the feeling of heart-stopping panic but you’d like to ramp up the emotion, then this featurette would like to make the case for seeing the movie in 3D where you can feel completely lost in space like the characters.
I have to say that if you’re going to go to a movie like this then you should probably spring for the 3D and just go for the full experience and white knuckle those arm rests. This featurette is complete with interviews with writer, director, producer Alfonso Cuarón, Sandra Bullock (Ryan Stone), producer David Heyman, stereoscopic supervisor Chris Parks, and executive producer Nikki Penny.
Featurette: Gravity
Gravity directed by Alfonso Cuarón and starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney is slated to hit theaters on October 4, 2013 in 3D and IMAX.

Dr. Ryan Stone (Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (Clooney) in command. But on a seemingly routine mission, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalski completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left.
But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Watch new clips from Gravity and get feedback from stars Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, director Alfonso Cuaron, writer Jonas Cuaron, producer David Heyman and executive producer Nikki Penny. The rivetting sci-fi thriller blew us away at the recent Toronto International Film Festival, and opens in theaters via Warner Bros. Pictures on October 4th, 2013. In Gravity, Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalski completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness.

Remember the 2003 film Open Water where 2 scuba divers were left stranded and adrift in the ocean surrounded by sharks? Only this time, it’s two astronauts stranded and adrift in outer space running out of oxygen in director Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity.
I haven’t even seen the movie and the three scenes below are already giving me an anxiety attack.
Here they are in order… strap yourself in and get ready for a white-knuckle ride.
Good recruitment videos at Space Camp, dontcha think?

Gravity is a highly anticipated film for me. I’ve been hearing about the film for over a year and I’m a fan of Cuarón’s work. I’m also genuinely excited that his work is being talked about and he has the highest possible audience looking at him when this film releases. Children of Men was simply a masterpiece of sci-fi drama. Gravity seems like a simple premise but this also gives Cuarón a great advantage to inject his style and technical prowess into a film to make it extraordinary. Typically, I don’t like showing off clips of a film out of context but this single take scene just needs to be seen.
