As part of its fall lineup announcement Monday, Fox revealed some of the players who will appear on the second season of Accused.
Michael Chiklis — who was featured in Accused‘s first episode when it premiered in January of 2023 — will return for the second season of the drama developed by Howard Gordon. The show’s set to air at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays this fall on Fox.
Joining the former Vic Mackey on the new season is Felicity Huffman, William H. Macy and Nick Cannon. It’s not clear, for now, what roles the actors will play in the anthology, which features different stories of crime and punishment told from the defendant’s point of view.
In his episode from season 1, Chiklis played a frightened dad who had to confront the realities of his troubled son’s behavior. The star of The Shield went on to direct “Jack’s Story,...

Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman don’t need to live together to make their marriage work. In fact, even though they have lived separately for years they are seemingly closer than ever. The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor opened up the couple’s unconventional marriage in an interview with Fox News Digital, where he was promoting his new comedy film Poolman, which opens in theaters today, Friday, May 10. “We’re doing great,” DeVito said of his relationship with his former Taxi co-star. “We’re sharing our granddaughter, our new granddaughter, and we see each other all the time.” DeVito and Perlman, who played boyfriend and girlfriend in Taxi and married parents in 1996’s Matilda, tied the knot in 1982. They went on to have three children: Lucy Chet DeVito, Grace Fan DeVito (born March 1985), and Jacob Daniel DeVito (born October 1987). They are also grandparents to Sinclair Lucille DeVito, who turned one back in March.

2023 was the end of an era in the Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy category. For the first time in 10 years, “Saturday Night Live” was snubbed in the category in which it has been nominated a record 22 times and has won twice, both for Kate MicKinnon. Can it rebound in 2024?
Ever since the TV academy allowed “SNL” cast members to enter in the comedy acting categories in 2008, the sketch series has dominated supporting actress, with 2013 and 2023 being the only years it has failed to earn a nomination. McKinnons is “SNL’s” most nominated performer in the category — and overall — with nine bids, the second most in the category after Rhea Perlman and Loretta Swit, who each received 10.
After McKinnon’s final nomination for her final season in 2022, it was clear that “SNL” might struggle to continue its nomination streak. She was “SNL’s” only nominee in the category that year, down...

"Cheers" was the third highest-rated show on television when Shelley Long opted to quit the series at the end of its fifth season and pursue movie stardom. Though the show had long since settled into its ensemble groove, the on-again/off-again Sam Malone and Diane Chambers romance was the primary generator of water-cooler chatter. Moreover, the chemistry between Long and Ted Danson was the stuff of a series showrunner's dream. Their banter was worthy of Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. You don't just go out and find another Katharine Hepburn. Could "Cheers," brilliant and popular as it was, survive Long's departure, especially when fans had so much invested in Diane?
This was the conundrum faced by casting director Jeff Greenberg, who'd joined "Cheers" during Long's last season. He knew chasing the next Long was courting disaster, so he looked for an actor who could hold her own with Danson and...

While Frasier, the beloved Cheers spinoff, has been rebooted, there has been no word about Cheers. Lucy is the oldest child of three from DeVito and Perlman. They also have two other children Grace and Jacob.

“Everybody said it’ll change your life when you have a grandchild, and it does,” Perlman said on the Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfous podcast.
“There’s a certain love, I mean I felt it when my own children were born, the kind of love I never felt before for anything … But this was a profound kind of feeling, and here it is again. "Cheers" is one of the best and most popular sitcoms of all time. That's not hyperbole, either — critics and fans alike will sing the praises of the show until you can't stand it anymore. "Okay, I get it!" you'll say. "You love 'Cheers'! Leave me alone!" Running for 11 seasons from 1982 to 1993, and starring Ted Danson, Shelley Long, Rhea Perlman, George Wendt, John Ratzenberger, Woody Harrelson, and more, "Cheers" was actually a flop during its first season, finishing last in the ratings during its premiere. Things were so bad, in fact, that the network almost pulled the plug. Eventually, though, "Cheers" found its audience, and that audience couldn't get enough of the barflies and bartenders who called the show home.

Let a television series stick around long enough, and the cast members, provided there isn't a tremendous amount of turnover, begin to feel like family. They're weekly guests in your living room, and they're doing all the entertaining. It's a nifty arrangement.
This coziness would be impossible to maintain over double-digit seasons if the sets of these series weren't friendly, respectful environments. There are deadlines and airdates to hit, so it behooves everyone to be not only professional, but pleasant. This means being an adult and realizing that everyone has their quirks and bad days. You cut people slack, and you make as much room as possible for whatever tsuris is going on in their life — because if you keep at it for enough years, your work family is family full-stop.
And this isn't always a difficult situation. Sometimes, a co-worker's personal mess adds color and joy to the creative process.

The 2024 SAG Awards allegedly only ran 10 minutes over its two-hour time slot on Saturday, but it felt a whole lot longer.
Unlike most awards shows, the SAG Awards and other guild ceremonies award winners only in their respective disciplines, but that didn’t make the telecast more efficient or memorable in any way. While the room full of nominees and winners were endlessly thankful to their union and outside solidarity during the strikes, the telecast failed to sufficiently honor the talent on display in a worthy manner — that, too, on the show’s 30th anniversary.
And it was no ordinary SAG Awards year for another obvious reason: The telecast aired live on Netflix for the first time ever (including a pre-show hosted by Tan France and Elaine Welteroth). Netflix is one of the only streamers that doesn’t dabble in live TV, so teaming up with the SAG Awards was both surprising and smart.

“The movie allowed us to be honest in a way that I don’t think we would have been able to achieve had it not been for — had it not been like an assignment,” says Billie Eilish about writing the weepy and moving Barbie ballad “What Was I Made For?”
While meant to be the aorta soul song for Warner Bros. summer blockbuster, the tune is so quintessential Eilish and bro/collaborator Finneas O’Connell: Self-reflective, piercing, poetic, and utterly emotional. How does one not break out crying when listening to it? It’s no wonder that “What Was I Made For?” won Song of the Year at the Grammys (one of two trophies in addition to Best Song Written for Visual Media). In addition to all of the Barbies and Kens who lived in Barbieland, there was also Allan, who happened to be Ken’s best friend, played by Michael Cera. Allan also had his moments, such as the scene where he battled the construction workers in Barbieland’s entrance. Curiously, though, Cera revealed that this was not the original concept for that particular fight scene.
Ben Affleck was supposed to make a cameo appearance in the movie and thus had to fight the construction workers, according to the 39-year-old Ontario-born actor. Unfortunately, the former couldn’t take on the role in Barbie due to his commitment to the biographical sports drama film Air.
This gave Cera’s Allan the opportunity to show off his fighting prowess. But had Affleck been available to play the role, the scene would have been drastically altered.

“I think the life of this song outside of this movie has felt really profound. We’ve felt really lucky,” admits Finneas O’Connell of the “Barbie” track “What Was I Made For?” He wrote the tune with sister Billie Eilish and it has blossomed into that rare song from a movie to capture the zeitgeist. Look no further than the song’s awards success: Finneas (as he is known mononymously) and Eilish are nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars, but on the road to that ceremony, they have already picked up two Grammy Awards, including the coveted Song of the Year trophy. “As a songwriting geek forever, that’s the award that I’ve always paid the most attention to,” he confesses. “Every once in a while, when a significant piece of talent signed a deal with the studio, he presented that company, that talent, with a key to the studio,” De Luca said as he and Abdy raised a toast to the trio. “We are so delighted to have our first key to our studio be given to LuckyChap.”
This historical artifact, De Luca noted, was particularly special, as the LuckyChap team received...

Ask a dozen "Cheers" fans what the show's funniest moment is, and you'll get a dozen different answers. The beloved '80s sitcom bowed out in 1993 with a grand total of 275 episodes under its belt and countless laugh-out-loud bits in pretty much every episode. It's tough to pinpoint the show's funniest moment, but when it comes to crowning its most spontaneous-feeling comedic one, there's an obvious contender: the knock-down, drag-out food fight from season 5's holiday episode "Thanksgiving Orphans."
The food fight that takes place at Carla's (Rhea Perlman) house is clearly a scripted part of the series, but it unfolds with a surprising mix of precise aim and comedic chaos, much of which feels totally organic. The kerfuffle starts with a simple bit of antagonism; when Norm (George Wendt) fails to produce a cooked turkey after hours spent waiting, he and Carla begin sniping at each other about their respective cooking skills.

A mere 17 days after its July 2023 release, Barbie earned a billion dollars — not to mention positive reviews and a broad fan base that kept coming back and bringing friends. Mattel’s advertising may have initially lured viewers to the theater, but the film itself made them return and proselytize.
In a just world — even a not-especially-feminist world — the film’s guiding forces, director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie, would have received Oscar nominations in their respective individual categories for conceiving, directing and acting in this phenomenon. But that didn’t happen. Instead, the Academy recognized Ryan Gosling’s performance as Ken—or as @yosomichael posted on X: “Ken getting nominated and not Barbie is honestly so fitting for a film about a man discovering the power of patriarchy in the Real World.”

Hollywood Democrats again might be facing conflicting loyalties and affinities, this time the race to fill the seat occupied for more than 30 years by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
With the March 5 open primary just weeks away, for many Hollywood politicos, the race is just starting to become a big topic of conversation.
Starting with Monday night’s first debate — sponsored by USC Dornsife, Fox 11 and Politico — that will see Democratic Reps. Adam Schiff, Katie Porter and Barbara Lee and Republican Steve Garvey on the same stage, the coming weeks will see an accelerated schedule of events, advertising and fundraising.

Emmys producers Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay had reason to be upbeat the morning after the kudocast: In what seems to be a rarity for awards shows these days, their production earned almost universally high marks from critics and viewers. For the 75th annual celebration, the Jesse Collins Entertainment trio leaned into nostalgia and the history of television to create a three-hour event that paid tribute to the small screen.
“It was ambitious, and we were like, ‘Is this actually going to work?’ But we felt good about it in the end,” Collins told Variety on Tuesday morning. Except for one thing: The 75th Emmys on Fox faced an NFL wild card game, as well as news coverage of the Iowa caucuses. The 2023 Emmys ceremony celebrated 75 years of television by staging reunions of some of your favorite shows, including FX’s long-running comedy “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Cast members Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito came out on stage and poked fun at the Emmy Awards for never nominating them throughout their 16 seasons (and counting), but is that factually correct? Let’s consult the history books!
While it’s true that “Sunny” has never been nominated for any of the main Primetime categories — i.e. series, acting, writing and directing — the half-hour show did actually receive three bids in the little-known category of Best Stunt Coordination for a Comedy Series or Variety Program. “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” lost those three races to Nickelodeon’s “Supah Ninjas” in 2013 and to Fox’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” in 2014 and 2015.

Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name – and that place could be a watering hole in Boston or a recreation of it on stage at the Primetime Emmy Awards. As was teased, a portion of the cast of Cheers reunited on Monday night, complete with a recreation of the iconic set.
The Cheers reunion found Ted Danson, Kelsey Grammer, Rhea Perlman, John Ratzenberger, and George Wendt (Norm!) presenting the awards for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, both of which went to The Bear. Throughout its 11-season run, Cheers won both of these twice. Notably, Wendt’s nephew, Jason Sudeikis, was nominated for Ted Lasso.
Danson, who played bartender Sam Malone on Cheers, expressed his gratitude to host Anthony Anderson by saying, “Anthony, thank you for getting us all here. Ah, this feels so nice to be here in front of all of you,...

The 75th Primetime Emmys was a somewhat predictable affair, with "Succession," "The Bear" and "Beef" winning nearly everything, but there was one creative choice that made it stand clearly above the Emmys of the past few years. The theme this time around was honoring the most beloved shows in TV history, which made for a far more interesting transition between awards than the usual random comedy schticks.
This year included the reunion of Jon Cryer and Holland Taylor from "Two and a Half Men," a speech from Arsenio Hall of "The Arsenio Hall Show," and another speech by Carol Burnett from "The Carol Burnett Show." We got an extended homage to "The Twilight Zone," as well as references to "Taxi," "Dynasty," and "Mad Men." Delayed by the WGA and SAG strikes in the early spring and summer of 2023, the 75th Emmy Awards already had anticipation backing attention toward the ceremony, but the casts of “The Bear,” “Succession” and more delivered rousing acceptance speeches, crossover interactions and honest emotional moments that solidified the ceremony as a great watch.
From surprise appearances like that of “Dead to Me” star Christina Applegate to reunions between the casts of “Cheers,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and some of the “Grey’s Anatomy” stars, most of the awards presentations were teed up by star power making way for the winners.
Here are the best moments of the 75th Emmy Awards:
Christina Applegate’s standing ovation
The “Dead to Me Actress” presented the first award of the night for Best Supporting Actress in a comedy series. Her appearance on the stage at the Peacock Theater led to a standing ovation that brought Applegate to tears.

Anthony Anderson’s mom?
The postponed Emmys had far more great moments than bad, thank goodness — starting with the brisk, git’ ‘er done pace, which seemed particularly on brand for the scrappier-than-ever Fox. And though the night was packed with far too many anti-climactic moments (as if any show other than Succession would rack up all the trophies), the meet-cutes on stage made for fun TV and the sentimental interpretation of the title song from Friends during the In Memoriam segment was both appropriate and absolutely heartbreaking.
Best Moments
Anthony Anderson’s opening monologue, which began with him walking into his own “Mister Anderson’s Neighborhood.” After throwing off his fur coat, he then sat down at a piano and, joined by a chorus from Compton, sang a medley of title songs like “Good...

On May 20, 1993, NBC's ultra-successful sitcom "Cheers" aired its finale episode, and it was almost instantly entered into the history books. Approximately 93 million people nationwide tuned in to watch the episode in 42.4 million homes, and untold thousands more watched it in bars across the country. Those numbers were good enough to make it the second highest-watched program in TV history, according to The L.A. Times — only the series finale of "M*A*S*H" scored more viewers.
That same night, 15 million people tuned into "The Tonight Show," which went on the road to the Bull & Finch Bar in Boston, which served as the exterior of the bar in the show, and host Jay Leno interviewed cast members Ted Danson, Woody Harrelson, Rhea Perlman, Kelsey Grammer, John Ratzenberger, and George Wendt.
Well, at least he tried to interview them.
As "Cheers" writer Ken Levine remembered in a 2013 article for Vulture, "The [series finale] ended at eleven.

One of the most quoted pieces of Hollywood wisdom holds that 90 percent of directing is casting. You bring the right actors together, and you're off to the races. This is, of course, laughably simplistic. You could argue that 90 percent of directing is writing because there's no movie or show to make if there's nothing on the page. And many directors will tell you that their films don't truly come together until they're hunkered down with their editor in post-production.
The truth, obviously, is that film and television production is a collaborative process that requires numerous people with expertise in different disciplines to do what they do at the highest level possible. And when it comes to casting, there is absolutely an art to finding, after untold hours of reels and cold reads, the ideal actor for each role — especially if you're trying to launch a successful television series. When Warner Brothers released the first teaser trailer for the Barbie movie in December, 2022 heads quite literally rolled — doll heads, that is. The decision to release the movie’s 2001: A Space Odyssey-themed opening scene, featuring a larger-than-life Margot Robbie, in the Original Barbie swimsuit, descending on a population of little girls who had heretofore only known the concept of baby dolls, was a gamble by the filmmakers. But Robbie, who also served as executive producer through her company Lucky Chap, says they all felt it was important that scene be the first thing released.

When the NBC comedy series "Cheers" began in 1982, fans quickly fell in love with Ernie "Coach" Pantusso (Nicholas Colasanto). He was a retired baseball coach working at the bar with Sam Malone (Ted Danson) and Diane Chambers (Shelley Long). He wasn't exactly the sharpest knife in the condiments bar, but he had a good heart and gave sort of ridiculous yet profound advice. He was a beloved character and a staple of the show. However, when Colasanto passed away after a heart attack in 1985, Coach died in the show as well.
In season 4, we got a new bartender in the form of Woody Boyd, played by a very young Woody Harrelson. He had the same very naive and sweet quality that Coach had, though he was far younger. I mean, look at the picture above. He was a baby! Woody Boyd was a pen pal to Coach and had to...

"Cheers" dominated the TV landscape in the 1980s. Viewers were caught up in the relationship between bartender/bar owner Sam Malone (Ted Danson) and the barmaid who felt like she was too good for the job, Diane Chambers (Shelley Long). Would she unbend enough actually to have fun with Sam? Could he manage to stand how pretentious she was? Hanging out with Sam, Diane, and the bar denizens of "Cheers" was like visiting old friends, gossiping about their lives, and getting invested in relationships that we weren't part of.
As it turns out, Shelley Long was as invested as fans were in the Sam and Diane storyline. In fact, there was an episode early on that had the actor breaking down behind the scenes, according to a 25th-anniversary feature in The Hollywood Reporter from 2018. That episode involved a moment between Sam and Carla Tortelli (Rhea Perlman) that Diane wasn't even there for.

In fact, there was an episode early on that had the actor breaking down behind the scenes, according to a 25th-anniversary feature in The Hollywood Reporter from 2018. That episode involved a moment between Sam and Carla Tortelli (Rhea Perlman) that Diane wasn't even there for.

After a remarkable run in theaters, Greta Gerwig’s pop culture phenomenon Barbie is making its way to streaming, having set a premiere date on Max of December 15th.
The highest grossing film in the history of Warner Bros, at a worldwide gross exceeding $1.4 billion, Barbie stars Margot Robbie as the “stereotypical” version of the Mattel doll, who comes to suffer an existential crisis after traveling from Barbie Land into the real world with new beau, Ken (Ryan Gosling).
Gerwig directed from her script written with Noah Baumbach. Pic’s starry ensemble also includes America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, Ariana Greenblatt, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Ncuti Gatwa, and Emerald Fennell, among others.
Robbie and Tom Ackerley produced under their LuckyChap Entertainment banner, alongside Mattel’s Robbie Brenner and Heyday Films’ David Heyman, with LuckyChap’s Josey McNamara...

As the daughter of the misanthropic waitress Carla (Rhea Perlman) and Nick Tortelli (Dan Hedaya) on "Cheers," the role of Serafina Tortelli was a highly coveted role for many of the young actresses in Hollywood in the early 1990s. The character was ultimately played by Leah Remini, who at the time had been making a name for herself on TV shows like "Who's The Boss," "Living Dolls," and "Saved by the Bell." This was obviously years before she'd become one of the leading sitcom wives thanks to "King of Queens" and a host with "The Talk" and "People Puzzler," but the early career role is still beloved by her fans.
In her 2015 memoir "Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology," Remini claimed the role of Serafina Tortelli on "Cheers" was between her and Jennifer Aniston. Hollywood can be a cutthroat industry, but Remini said that she and Aniston had a friendly rapport...

Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt couldn’t have guessed their first time scoring a film together would be the biggest movie of the year.
For the duo, working with A-list artists — such as Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Adele, Lorde and Bruno Mars — is nothing new. And Ronson had even previously scored a film before: 2015’s Mortdecai. But taking on Greta Gerwig’s Barbie? That was a different feat. As Wyatt explains, they’re the type of people to “dive in the pool and learn how to swim later” — and they’re definitely taking laps now.
Not only has the Margot Robbie-led film broken box office records, but Barbie: The Album was a chart-topping and Grammy-nominated hit, which Ronson finds “amazing and totally baffling.” With a lineup of songs including Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night,” Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?”, Ryan Gosling’s “I...

Following the box office success of Barbie, there’s been a lot of chatter about a potential sequel that would see Margot Robbie reprise the titular character role.
However, in a new interview, Robbie seems to shoot down any possibilities of a follow-up to the Greta Gerwig-directed film.
“I think we put everything into this one. We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something,” Robbie told the Associated Press in an interview. “Greta put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what would be next.”
Barbie made over $1.4 billion at the box office and Robbie also reflected on the success of the film noting that “original films can still hit huge.”
“It doesn’t have to be a sequel or a prequel or a remake,” Robbie continued. “It can be totally original. It can still be big given the big budget to do that.

In a previous piece for Gold Derby, I referenced how all but one Best Picture Oscar winner since 2008 came from filmmakers who had never directed a Best Picture nominee before. The only exception is Alejandro González Iñárritu‘s “Birdman” in 2014; his prior Best Picture bid was for “Babel” back in 2006. Let’s dig into the last 15 years of winners, shall we?
SEEOscars alert: Watch out for ‘Barbie’ scene-stealers America Ferrera and Rhea Perlman
In 2008 “Slumdog Millionaire” was the juggernaut of the film awards season, winning eight Oscars, which is still more than any film since then. It was directed by Danny Boyle, who at the time only made one other Oscar nominated film, 1996’s “Trainspotting,” which was recognized with a nom for Best Adapted Screenplay.
In 2009 the race famously came down to two films from directors who were previously married: James Cameron‘s “Avatar” and Kathryn Bigelow‘s “The Hurt Locker.
