When it comes to something borrowed on your wedding day, this is tough to beat.
Maddy Erba and Al Heritier wed on Saturday in Michigan and recruited their former foster dog, Daisy, who served as ring bearer.
According to the Detroit Free Press, who reported the story and obtained video of Daisy walking down the isle, the bride and groom fostered Daisy for a year while they were dating, through the organization Paws With a Cause for the State Farm Arson Dog Program.

Put a group of movie lovers in a pub, give them a few beers and one topic that will inevitably come up is speculation about films that were never made, and top of that list is usually Tim Burton’s infamous Superman movie.
As something of a more than casual Superman fan, I have to admit that my personal preference for the best portrayal of the Man of Steel on screen, whether big or small, is Christopher Reeve’s iconic take in Richard Donner’s Superman (1978) and Superman II (1980). I’ve got nothing particularly against Richard Lester’s version of the sequel, but Donner’s more than nails it for me.
That said, I can’t help but wonder, and have on many an occasion in the afore mentioned alcohol fuelled debates with my cinephile friends, just what Superman would have looked like if played by Nicolas Cage and directed by Tim Burton.

As silly as Tim Burton and Nicolas Cage's Superman Lives movie probably would have been, I still kind of wish we could have seen how is would have turned out, especially after everything I've learned about the production over the years. There's going to be a lot more to learn about it in a documentary currently in development called The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? wihch is being made by filmmaker Jon Schnepp. You can watch the trailer for that here.
We don't have to wait for that to be released to be filled in on some additional information about the film though. Movies.com talked to one of the screenwriters who worked on Superman Lives, Dan Gilroy, who recently wrote the script for the upcoming film Nightcrawler. During the interview, the writer was asked about his favorite script that he worked on that never made it to the screen,...

The multi-hyphenate, expected to be an awards contender this season with the upcoming Unbroken, will direct Skydance Productions’ epic.
Africa will be based on Eric Roth’s screenplay about paleo-archaeologist Richard Leakey’s battle with ivory poachers that threaten the existence of the African elephant population.
Skydance head David Ellison will produce alongside Jolie, Dana Goldberg and John Peters. Jolie will reunite with her Unbroken cinematographer Roger Deakins.
“I’ve felt a deep connection to Africa and its culture for much of my life, and was taken with Eric’s beautiful script about a man drawn into the violent conflict with elephant poachers who emerged with a deeper understanding of man’s footprint and a profound sense of responsibility for the world around him,” said Jolie.
Jolie is currently in production on By The Sea for Universal, which she is directing from her original script. She will star alongside husband Brad Pitt, Mélanie Laurent and [link...

Almost a decade after audiences were first promised a Batman movie – producer Michael Uslan originally announced one way back in 1980 – the summer of 1989 was effectively the summer of Batmania. From books to clothing, comics to posters, you literally couldn’t turn your head without seeing the iconic Bat-sign popping up somewhere – and in the midst of what was at the time the biggest marketing and merchandise campaign in film history, there actually was a movie. And, let’s be honest, it was a pretty damn good one at that.
Unlike Superman: The Movie and, indeed, the vast majority of other superhero films that have followed it in the years since, Batman doesn’t dwell on the origins of how its title character came to be, film fans would have to wait another 16 years for Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins to explore that side of the Dark Knight. Only a brief...

A question I often ask myself when I see a movie is “Who is to blame when a film goes wrong?” Is it the director, the studio, the writers? Is it the actors? All these questions but no easy answer. In collegiate and intermediate sports it always seems the coach is the one who takes blame for a bad loss, citing preparation, bad decisions and other stuff as the reasons the team underperformed. In professional sports you rarely see it, fingers get pointed in all directions and that is because generally its all those things where the fingers are pointing. In films however, no one ever comes out to be accountable for the failure of a film but have no problem relishing in the glory if a film is highly celebrated. I see no difference in the corporate world as accountability is the one thing that is scarce from any business place,...

It was just two months ago that photos of the new suit from Tim Burton's failed Superman Lives came online. Abandoning the classic red and blue costume, the director - possibly influenced by insane producer John Peters - had his effects team come up with a suit that not only was a strange, transparent purple, but had embedded lights. The whole thing was monumentally stupid looking and would have been horrible to look at on the big screen. Now, however, we do get the chance to see the suit in motion. Steven Johnson, the special effects creator who also released the first round of photos, has posted test footage of the suit to his YouTube account and I'll say this: the costume doesn't look any less dumb when the lights flash. I can't even begin to imagine how much of a disaster this movie would have been had it...

Danny Elfman came to Comic-Con for the first time today to talk about his 25 year, 13 film collaboration with Time Burton. Coincidentally, a giant boxset of CDs and DVDs and a book and a Zoetrope chronicling that relationship is hitting shelves just before Christmas. Pre-order now.
What's great about Danny Elfman is that he's either sincerely humble or a fantastic actor. He was actually blushing during (and after) the lengthy standing ovation he received when he took the stage. When someone yelled, "You're a genius!" and someone else yelled, "I agree!" he seemed baffled as to how to respond. Combined with his habitual self-deprecation, it was all very charming.
The initial discussion, moderated by I don't know who, sorry, focused mainly on his many collaborations with Tim Burton, and was mainly really simple and interesting. What's the secret to his long collaboration with Burton? Burton doesn't have anybody else's phone number.

Under any other circumstances, I’d rail against Dear John. Not only that, I’d take potshots and low-blows at anyone who likes that sort of romantic insta-mash and I’d work myself into such an angry, self-righteous frenzy that I’d be flying high on my superiority for days on end. I went into the theater cracking my knuckles and putting on my warpaint. I was going to have so much twisted fun.
And then–Gasp–it wasn’t actually that bad. It isn’t an Oscar winner by any stretch,...

What can only be described as one of the most interesting stories of 2010, it seems Warner Brothers, gold standard director, Chris Nolan may be consulting with the studio on the direction of the next installment of Superman. Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting that Warner Bros. has brought on Christopher Nolan as a “mentor” a new Superman film.
It was cited that Nolan’s “super” strong ties to the studio, where he is considered the man with the golden touch, were among the top reasons they brought him on board. The article says they are keen on Nolan to, “ensure The Man Of Steel gets off the ground after a 3 1/2-year hiatus.”
The site also reported that this new film would not be a sequel to the 2006 film Superman Returns and will be a brand new take on the character. However, it was said that both Superman Returns director Bryan Singer...

Dear John
Directed by: Lasse Hallstrom
Cast: Channing Tatum, Amanda Seyfried, Richard Jenkins, Henry Thomas
Running Time: 2 hrs
Rating: PG 13
Release Date: February 5, 2010
Plot: While home on two-week leave, Sergeant John Tyree (Tatum) falls in love with a beautiful college student, Savannah (Seyfried). Almost directly after they pledge their undying love for each other, the attack on the Twin Towers happens and John patriotically marches off to war.
Who’S It For? No one. If you’re a fan of the book, you’ll really dislike this adaptation. If you’re not a fan of the book (and I’m not, thanks), the movie is overwhelmingly bland and badly constructed. Trust me on this–a friend of mine loved the book and she was appalled at the plot liberties taken in this movie.
Expectations: I thought I was going to hate it with a dark sort of joy. I thought...
