Meanwhile, Australian actress Rachael Carpani is set to co-star opposite Janeane Garofalo in Barry Schindel's untitled drama pilot for CBS.
Wedding Planners, from David E. Kelley Prods. and 20th Century Fox TV, revolves around three sisters -- Jane (Teri Polo), Sammy (Sarah Jones) and Annie (KaDee Strickland) -- who run a family wedding-planning business (HR 12/18).
King will play the wedding company's chief corporate officer, the businessman of the group who is happily married to Jane.
Kelley and Jonathan Pontell are executive producing Wedding, which is slated to premiere in the spring. Jon Amiel is directing and executive producing the first episode of the series.
King, whose credits include NBC's original movie Saving Jessica Lynch and the pilots Stroller Wars for CBS and Weekends for NBC, is repped by Innovative Artists and manager Scott Howard.
The untitled Barry Schindel project, from CBS Paramount Network TV and studio-based Scott Free Prods., follows the lives, relationships, cases and careers of a team of public defenders.

In its first collaboration with David E. Kelley, the WB Network has greenlighted Halley's Comet, a drama pilot from the Emmy-winning producer, writer Andrew Kreisberg and director Jonathan Pontell. In other pilot pickup news, Fox has given a thumbs up to House of Payne, from writer-producers Bill Chais and Jeff Rake, while CBS has given a cast-contingent order to 3 Lbs., from Peter Ocko. Halley's Comet, from David E. Kelley Prods. and 20th Century Fox TV, is a light quirky drama in the tone of Kelley's Ally McBeal. It centers on a young cancer survivor who navigates her way through medical school, friendship and love. The pilot pickup deal is said to carry a sizable license fee if the project goes to series and a major penalty if it doesn't.
Four of the newer cast members on David E. Kelley's Fox drama series Boston Public -- Joey McIntyre, Jon Abrahams, Cara DeLizia and China Shavers -- will not return to the David E. Kelley Prods./20th Century Fox TV series in the fall. All four became regulars on the series last year, with Shavers first joining the show in 2001 as a recurring. The move is not unusual for the ensemble drama, which saw the departure of original cast members Jessalyn Gilsig and Rashida Jones and the recruitment of McIntyre, Abrahams and DeLizia last season. Casting changes on Kelley's other returning series this fall, ABC's The Practice, have drawn a lot of attention in the past week, with the producer deciding not to pick up the options of six of the legal drama's stars, including Dylan McDermott and Lara Flynn Boyle (HR 5/20). Boston Public, executive produced by Jason Katims and Jonathan Pontell, is set to move from its Monday 8 p.m. slot to Fridays at 9 p.m. in the fall.
