- Resembled James Dean; especially in the Western 'Firecreek' where he played a nervous teen with many of Dean's similar expressions.
- In Manhattan in 1961, responded to a Screen Actors Guild ad looking for someone to split the cost of a Volkswagon Beetle trek to Hollywood. His trip partner was Jonathan Goldsmith, who later gained television fame as "The most interesting man in the world".
