Claimed to have founded his own theater troupe at age 15 in
Nazi-occupied Greece.
Emigrated to the United States in 1947, to study at Oberlin College,
where he directed productions by the Oberlin Mummers.
In 1954, received an MFA in directing from the Yale School of
Drama.
In 1955, the Williamstown Summer Theater of Massachusetts invited
Psacharopoulos to to be its Associate Director. One year later, he was
the Artistic and Executive Director, a position he flourished in for
the next 44 years.
His colleagues referred to him as "the irrepressible Nikos.".
The Nikos Stage was named in his honor at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
