We’ve got new Doctor Who coming up in the form of this December’s Christmas special and Jodie Whittaker’s season 11 that’s currently in production, but we’re also getting some new old Doctor Who, as well. That’s because an abandoned story from 1979, which has gained legendary status over the years, is finally being completed using animation.
Titled “Shada,” the six-part storyline was set to be the third and final Doctor Who episode from iconic sci-fi scribe Douglas Adams (The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy). However, due to strike action at the BBC, production was interrupted halfway through and never resumed.
Nearly forty years later, though, the cast of the story have been reunited and chief among them is Tom Baker, the Fourth Doctor himself who played the role from 1974-1981. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, it’s also been revealed that the 87-year-old actor...

As much as I personally love Arrow, even I had to admit that a few missteps were taken with season 4, just as some of the cast and crew have. That said, it was all the more satisfying to see the daddy of The CW’s shared DC TV universe return to form this year, effectively serving up its best effort since season 2.
Aside from Stephen Amell continuing to be an all-around badass each week, Team Arrow gained some new recruits such as Mr. Terrific, Wild Dog and even a new Black Canary, helping to keep the series feeling fresh. Not only that, but Prometheus made for the best big bad the show’s seen since Deathstroke (who also made his return late in the game), and may have very well been the deadliest, most calculating threat Oliver Queen has encountered to date.
With that, we’re excited to say that...

Carrie's back, folks! And not the crazy "Omg what's she doing?" Carrie of seasons past, but a more mature, centered, and self-assured Carrie.
As Carrie goes, so does the series. Homeland Season 6 Episode 1 has the bearing of a show that's all grown up, short on thrills and gimmicks, generous with nuanced character moments.
Picking up six months after events in Berlin, season six moves to New York City, where Carrie has established a nonprofit law practice dedicated to defending Muslim-Americans coming under the FBI's over-eager radar.
She is also caring for Peter Quinn, who is alive (surprise!) and stubbornly fighting rehab at a Va hospital. Dar and Saul are in town, briefing President-elect Elizabeth Keane on all things CIA.
Quinn, alas, is a hot mess. Fortunately, the show delivers the bad news with characteristic dark humor. When Carrie nags him to push through even when the going gets tough, Quinn interrupts,...

As per usual, a DC animation panel held at a major convention bore some generous fruit. This time, it pertained to one of WB’s most ambitious projects in the superhero genre: Justice League Dark.
For those unfamiliar, Justice League Dark is an upcoming animated movie based on the comic book series of the same name that will see characters such as John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, and Zatanna join forces to combat the darkest mystical threats the DC Universe has to offer – not everything is a job for Superman. Not only that, but Batman will factor into this adaptation too because, well, he’s a proven success and will no doubt get casual fans to buy out of curiosity.
This weekend at New York Comic Con, several clips from the film were debuted to a geeked audience. But what were perhaps the most interesting talking points came from the...

Burbank, CA, March 29, 2016 – The classic beloved animated tale The Iron Giant returns to home screens when The Iron Giant: Signature Edition is released for the first time on Blu-ray on September 6. I'm sure most of you watched the Academy Awards last night, so I wanted to create a place for you to talk to us and your fellow commenters about the winners, losers, snubs, performances, and host. For good reason, the topic of diversity was looming large in the minds of the producers of the broadcast, and I thought host Chris Rock did a great job of ripping Hollywood while at the same time creating a call to action for equal opportunity in the industry (which is all the controversy really boils down to). For addressing a tough, complicated issue that obviously doesn't start and end with the organization of the Oscars, I thought it was handled about as well as it could have been.
As for the winners and losers, I was pleasantly surprised to see Mad Max: Fury Road take home as many awards as it did, considering what...

The winners of the 88th Annual Academy Awards have been announced, the biggest award Best Picture went to 'Spotlight.' 'The Revenant' took home the Best Director Oscar for Alejandro González Iñárritu, making Iñárritu the third director in history to win back-to-back directing and Leonardo DiCaprio finally got his Oscar for Best Actor (and there was much rejoicing).
Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki also won his third Best Cinematography Oscar in a row for 'The Revenant.' 'Mad Max: Fury Road' was the big winner of the night for most awards, sweeping the technical categories to earn six Oscars, including Best Production Design.
It was a great year for Irish talent picking up nominations but only Stutterer, which was directed by Irishman Benjamin Cleary managed to pick up a award in Best Short Film (Live Action). The short can be viewed on the Rte player here.

Coleen Nolan's husband was once left with a 48-hour erection after he took Viagra. The 50-year-old presenter's spouse Ray Fensome, who she married in 2007 and has daughter Ciara, 15, with, once turned to the drug - typically used to treat erectile dysfunction - to spice up their sex life but soon regretted the decision when he was left with an overly-excitable penis for two days. While diverse, this year's nominees in the Academy Awards' Best Original Song category are competing on an even playing ground. Most of the writers and performs are first-time nominees, with two-time Best Documentary winner J. Ralph and, now, eight-time Best Original Song Nominee Diane Warren as the exceptions. Still, it's an Oscar-winner free game and has many hitmakers vying for a very rare award for musicians to nab.

Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant are among the nominees for this year's Oscars. Here's the full list of hopefuls...
We've ironed our dressing gowns, polished our slippers and hosed down the kitchen in preparation for a particularly posh time in the movie year: yes, it's Oscar season.
Guillermo del Toro and Ang Lee were the director pairing for this year's Oscar nominations, which saw The Revenant and Mad Max: Fury Road leading the pack.
It's great to see Anomalisa, Sean The Sheep and When Marnie Was There among the nominees for best animated feature, and it's equally heartening to see the superb indie film Ex Machina up against expensive movies like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Mad Max: Fury Road in the best visual effects category.
While we wouldn't argue against any of the great performances in the Best Actress section, we'd have liked...

It’s difficult to even care much about this announcement when mourning the loss of a film icon, but alas, the 2016 Oscar nominations have been unveiled this morning. Leading the pack is The Revenant, which picked up 12 nominations, while Mad Max: Fury Road was close behind with 10. The Martian had 7, while Carol, Bridge of Spies and Spotlight each picked up 6, but sadly, Todd Haynes‘ magnificent drama was left out of the Best Picture and Best Director race. After many months of speculation, the full list of this year's Oscar nominees have been announced - just minutes after the reveal of the death of beloved thespian Alan Rickman.
"The Revenant" led the field with twelve nominations followed by "Mad Max: Fury Road" with ten and "The Martian" with seven. Next were "Spotlight" and "Carol" with six nominations; "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "The Big Short" and "Bridge Of Spies" got five; "Room" and "The Danish Girl" nabbed four; "Sicario," "Brooklyn" and "The Hateful Eight" scored three; and "Steve Jobs" and "Ex Machina" nabbed two.
Surprises? "Creed" and "Joy" scored only one nomination each for Stallone's and Lawrence's performances respectively. No Ridley Scott for director, Quentin Tarantino or Aaron Sorkin for screenplay, Charlize Theron for best actress, "Carol" for best picture, "See You Again" for best song, and of course - the distinct lack of racial diversity. Here's the list in full.

The Revenant and The Martian shared top honours at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards for drama and musical or comedy respectively as the former also earned best director and dramatic actor and the latter best actor in a musical or comedy.Scroll down for full list of winners
Todd Haynes’ Carol headed into the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton on Sunday evening with the highest number of nominations - five - and left empty-handed. Similarly The Big Short, nominated for four, failed to translate a single nod into a trophy at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s annual shindig.
Away from the business of winning awards, arguably the most anticipated part of the evening was the inevitable encounter between show host Ricky Gervais and Mel Gibson, making his return to the limelight after years in the wilderness following a series of anti-Semitic and misogynistic remarks and erratic behaviour.

Away from the business of winning awards, arguably the most anticipated part of the evening was the inevitable encounter between show host Ricky Gervais and Mel Gibson, making his return to the limelight after years in the wilderness following a series of anti-Semitic and misogynistic remarks and erratic behaviour.

Best Song Oscar 2016 contender 'Fifty Shades of Grey,' with Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. 74 entries in contention for 2016 Best Song Academy Award 'Tis the season for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to announce the semi-finalists – in some instances, the semi-semi-finalists – for the Academy Awards. Exceptions include Sam Taylor-Johnson's Fifty Shades of Grey, Ryan Coogler's Creed, Kenneth Branagh's...

Have you got a favorite action movie of the year? We’d presume that would be a battle between “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol.” The latter, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, is clearly written around its set pieces: the action sequences are thought out and designed first and the movie’s plot is reverse engineered to fill the spaces between the explosions and punching. While that seems iffy, all one has to do is see a similar and less-successful take on this dubious approach in “Spectre” to appreciate how well and entertainingly it’s pulled off in ‘Rogue Nation.’ Read More: Review: ‘Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation’ Starring Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Jeremy Renner & More ‘Rogue Nation’ might not have the greatest story in the world, but looking back, it’s still one of the most enjoyable summer tentpoles if you’re looking for just a blast of escapist entertainment.

The next 2015 blockbuster is upon us. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 marks the final installment in the adaptation of Suzanne Collins' novels and looks to become the first $100+ million opener since Minions back in July. Joining the pre-Thanksgiving fray is the Secret in Their Eyes remake and The Night Before starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen and Anthony Mackie. Meanwhile, Spectre hopes to maintain some kind of a foothold as audience competition heats up. Ending any kind of made up suspense, yes, Mockingjay 2 will become 2015's fifth $100+ million opener. Part 1 opened with $121.8 million last year and Part 2 should be in that same vicinity this year. The plus-minus, however, is up for debate. The first Hunger Games opened with $152.5 million back in 2012 and Catching Fire topped that by six million a year-and-a-half later and still holds the November opening weekend record with $158 million. Mockingjay - Part 1 was unable to match that,...

Warner Home Entertainment has recently released their special edition DVD of director Joe Dante’s “Innerspace” on Blu-ray. The 1987 film is a sci-fi comedy that afforded Martin Short and Meg Ryan early career leading roles in a tale of inspired lunacy. The premise of the script centers on a narcissistic former military test pilot Tuck Pendelton (Dennis Quaid) who volunteers for an unprecedented scientific experiment. Doctors have the technology to shrink him and inject him into the body of a rabbit. They also obviously have the ability to bring him back into the outside world where he can resume his normal activities at his normal size. The purpose of the experiment is to allow medical technicians to eventually inject operatives into human beings so that they can perform miracle surgeries. However, there are some bad guys who are looking to benefit from the amazing technology by selling it to the highest bidder.

In simpler times, Maggie would be a revolutionary zombie drama about the inevitable clutches of death that take hold after a victim becomes infected. But we live in a world where there’s not one, but Two shows based on Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead, plus we’ve had zombie period pieces (Fido/Exit Humanity), romantic zombie movies (Warm Bodies), child zombies (Cooties), and just about every other zombie movie incarnation you could dream up. So why do writer John Scott 3 and director Henry Hobson get a pass for their eerily human zombie tragedy? Easy: Arnold Schwarzenegger. And no, not ass-kicking Arnold, either. A sad, broken, helplessly distraught fatherly Arnold – which is a version of Arnold the world needs more of.
Abigail Breslin stars at the film’s titular Maggie, an infected, soon-to-be zombie who comes home to spend her final days amongst family. Her father, Wade Vogel...

Ok, who in their office pool had “Oliver and Felicity ride off into the sunset, all Danny and Sandy-like, with nary a care in the world” as the ending for Arrow Season 3?

Nobody? Yeah, me neither. Which is not to say that Oliver isn’t deserving of some R&R, but… no little “sting” at the end, suggesting a new danger...
