Garth Brooks named Dolly Parton the Goat of country music, Chris Stapleton won his first-ever entertainer of the year title and Lainey Wilson continued her rise to stardom at the 2023 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Parton closed the two-hour awards show Thursday with a performance of her rock anthem “World on Fire,” taken from her upcoming rock debut Rock Star. The song features lyrics like, “Don’t get me started on politics/Now how are we to live in a world like this?”
Fire burst from the stage during the performance, which featured a full band and 10 dancers.
“Country music’s rock star,” co-host Brooks said as he introduced the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and fellow host.

Lainey Wilson was seemingly everywhere at the Academy of Country Music Awards, collecting four trophies on a night that saw Chris Stapleton win the entertainer of the year honour.
Wilson performed twice Thursday –- back-to-back –- and delivered heartfelt speeches after her wins, which put her next to fellow winners and country music legends.
She won album of the year for Bell Bottom Country accepting the honour slightly breathless after performing her song “Grease”.
Wilson called the album a “labor of love” and said she wrote 300 songs during the pandemic. She said people often tell her how much the album means to their lives, and she said writing them “saved mine.”

The ACM Awards aired live from Texas on Thursday night in the Dallas suburb of Frisco — located just 12 miles from Allen, Texas, where a gunman killed eight people last weekend at a shopping mall. It was the U.S.’s 199th mass shooting of 2023 and the second-deadliest of the year.
Old Dominion singer Matthew Ramsey was aware of the proximity and alluded to it in his acceptance speech when his band won their sixth Group of the Year title at the ACMs.

This year’s Stagecoach Festival was a love letter to country music’s past and a nod to its wide-open future. While the festival — the genre’s largest, most rollicking reunion that takes place in California’s low desert the week after Coachella — was sparse on guest appearances (no Axl Rose, this time), the level of showmanship and raw talent was high.

Old Dominion find a happy place to visit again and again in their newly released song “Memory Lane.” It’s the CMA-winning country group’s latest single, and first release since their August collaboration with Kenny Chesney on “Beer With My Friends.”
As its title suggests, “Memory Lane” is heavy on nostalgia, but the kind that’s tinged with sadness. The shuffling beat and acoustic guitar propel the tune along at a nice clip while singer Matthew Ramsey drifts back to a better day with someone he loved. “Thinkin...

The 2022 CMA Awards were a mostly predictable affair with a few pleasant little surprises — and we’re so grateful for it. Between the maelstrom known as Ye, the upending of the already chaotic Twitter, and the high stakes of the midterms, there’s enough wacky shit afoot without having to endure some stupid drama unfolding on country music’s biggest night. Sorry Garth, but thank God for answered prayers.

Old Dominion have released their first new music since 2019. The breezy new single “I Was on a Boat That Day,” out Friday, is the ACM-winning group’s lead offering from an upcoming project.
With its appropriately buoyant rhythm and hum-along melodies underpinned by accordion, “I Was on a Boat That Day” nearly masks the fact that it’s a breakup song. “I remember it like yesterday, ‘cause it was,” frontman Matthew Ramsey sings at the top. He pushes off from the dock and floats while she’s back home packing up to leave.

Ingrid Andress and Miranda Lambert lead all country music artists at the 2021 Grammy Awards with three nominations each. Andress earned nominations in the Best Country Album and Best Country Song categories, as well as an all-genre nomination for Best New Artist. Lambert’s three noms include Country Album, Country Song, and Best Country Solo Performance.
Andress, a Colorado-raised songwriter, garners her country nominations on the strength of her debut single “More Hearts Than Mine” and her subsequent debut album, Lady Like. In May, the LP became the highest streamed country debut album by a woman.

Completing the trio of performing-rights organizations’ country-music events leading into the 2020 CMA Awards, ASCAP has announced its country winners. Like the Sesac and BMI country awards in recent days, the event honoring the year’s most-played country songs is being presented digitally but will be spaced out from November 9th to 12th.
Old Dominion were presented with the Song of the Year honor for “One Man Band,” a hit ballad that appears on the group’s self-titled third album. The song was written by members Matt Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, and Brad Tursi with Josh Osborne.

Old Dominion appeared on The Tonight Show to perform “One Man Band,” a track off their recent self-titled album. In the clip, the musicians give the song deep emotional heft as Matthew Ramsey croons, “Been flyin’ solo for so long/Nobody’s singin’ the harmony.”
Old Dominion first released “One Man Band” last January as the first new music to emerge following the release of their 2017 album Happy Endings. The group released Old Dominion, their third album, in October. The band co-produced the release with singer-songwriter and Songland star Shane McAnally.

When Dustin Lynch first signed a record deal in the early 2010s and started releasing music, he did his best to play nice and not ruffle any feathers. Like many fresh-faced entertainment-industry aspirants, he was supposed to feel grateful to be in such an enviable position, and also be willing to do whatever was asked of him. But he couldn’t help feeling like he didn’t have agency over his music. As a result, he ended up recording some songs, like “She Cranks My Tractor,” that didn’t feel representative of who he was.

Old Dominion and Brothers Osborne had a running joke on Twitter for a while about being mistaken for the other. Apparently it’s easy to confuse bands with duos in country music — even if their sounds couldn’t be more different.
“It still happens,” says Old Dominion’s singer Matthew Ramsey, calling from Glasgow, where the reigning Acm Group of the Year are in the midst of a U.K. tour. “I think people want to gravitate toward a person or a face. It didn’t used to be that way.

Old Dominion have announced plans for their upcoming album. The self-titled release, the Nashville band’s third overall, will be available October 25th.
Singer Matthew Ramsey revealed the news just prior to the group’s performance on Good Morning America, while chatting with host Robin Roberts. Old Dominion then played their current single “One Man Band,” which came out earlier in 2019. In a press release, Ramsey described the tune as the “first true ‘love song’ we’ve ever released.” Singer-songwriter and Songland star Shane McAnally is co-producing the album with the band.

Two albums into their career as a band, Old Dominion have become popular largely on the basis of upbeat material like “Break Up With Him,” “Snapback” and “Hotel Key” that plays as well at parties as it does over arena speakers. But on Friday, the Nashville band threw a curveball by releasing a legitimate ballad — the new song “Some People Do.”
“This song is a side of us we haven’t shown as blatantly, and it’s a little scary to put out into the world,” the band wrote on Twitter on Thursday.

With the new release of Old Dominion’s sophomore effort Happy Endings — the follow-up to their smash hit debut album Meat and Candy — there is perhaps no more telling sign of how far they’ve come than their current comfort level while out on the road.
“We used to travel the country all crammed in a van,” frontman Matt Ramsey tells People, thinking back to the release of their first album. “Now it hits us a lot these days because we’re actually traveling in two tour buses and we have a tractor trailer. You wake up in the morning...

Old Dominion’s latest single “Song for Another Time” is No. 2 on the Billboard Hot Country songs chart, but the tune — which name-checks no less than 20 other famous songs —almost didn’t make it on the band’s hit album Meat & Candy.
“We were done recording and then we went out on the road and wrote the song,” lead singer Matt Ramsey explains backstage at the Grand Ole Opry. “It just felt like it needed to be on the album.”

For Old Dominion, their third single - "Song For Another Time" - might just be their most charming, and certainly their most unique, yet. "This song means so much to me and I'm so proud of how it came out," frontman Matt Ramsey tells People of the band's follow-up to their big hits "Break Up with Him" and "Snapback." What makes it so special? The lyrics are actually made up of 20 other song titles - and the song almost didn't make the album. It was written on their tour bus one evening last summer on the Kenny Chesney tour, just...

Kenny Chesney's Big Revival Tour is shaping up to be a can't miss event!
With Jake Owen, Cole Swindell, Brantley Gilbert and Chase Rice already on-tap to open – plus select dates with Eric Church and co-headliner Jason Aldean -- the country icon has selected buzzed-about Nashville band Old Dominion to join the roster. You may have heard their songs "Shut Me Up" and "Break Up with Him" recently, but this band has been in the biz for more than a decade writing songs for Luke Bryan, Keith Urban and yes, even Chesney. Among their biggest hits are The Band Perry's "Better Dig Two" and "Chainsaw," Tyler Farr's "A Guy Walks Into a Bar," Craig Morgan's "Wake Up Lovin' You," and Dierks Bentley's "Say You Do."
