Pepe Mel makes his debut in the West Bromwich Albion dugout knowing Everton have won on three of their last seven Premier League trips to The Hawthorns.
The Baggies took three points from their last home game against the Toffees in September 2012. Shane Long, who has been sold to Hull City this winter, and Gareth McAuley were on target in that victory.
When the sides met in the reverse fixture last August neither side could score. Nikica Jelavic led the line for Everton that day, but like Long has left his former employers for the Tigers.
Life goes on for both clubs and talented youngsters spearhead their respective attacks in Saido Berahino and Romeluk Lukaku – who faces the club he spent last season on loan with. Leighton Baines may be the man for Roberto Martinez...

Neutrals were treated to an absorbing draw between two of the Premier League’s bottom six at Upton Park. West Bromwich Albion came away from East London with a point thanks to bright prospect Saido Berahino.
A topsy-turvy game at West Ham saw Sam Allardyce’s side lead 1-0 through Joe Cole only to go in behind at half time thanks to a Nicolas Anelka brace. Three goals in four manic second half minutes first saw the Hammers reclaim the lead through sub Modibo Maiga and Kevin Nolan. Baggies striker Berahino then ensured honours finished even.
Major talking points from this great game of football also included the Hammers playing 80 minutes without a recognized centre back. James Tomkins limped off with a groin injury. West Brom’s second goal came from a controversially-awarded corner and Berahino rattled the goal-frame late on with a stunning free kick.

West Ham United host West Bromwich Albion protecting a record of a decade unbeaten in home meetings. Brian Deane scored three times – twice at the right end and then in his own net – in November 2003 as the Baggies edged a seven-goal thriller 4-3.
The Hammers last entertained Albion in March and ran out 3-1 winners, but they will still be without Andy Carroll – the difference between the sides that day. Sam Allardyce has further intensified the pressure on himself by describing Saturday’s lunchtime encounter with West Brom as “a must win” as West Ham have slipped into the Premier League’s bottom three.
Heavyweights Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool have all given the Hammers hidings in recent outings with only an extended run in the Capital One Cup affordng fans crumbs of Christmas comfort.

Newcastle United recorded their fourth straight Premier League and moved fifth in the table with a 2-1 home win over West Bromwich Albion.
Baggies captain Chris Brunt cancelled out Yoan Gouffran’s opener before Moussa Sissoko scored the pick of the goals to win it for the hosts at St James’ Park.
The Magpies saw their stunning form continue here, following up recent wins over top flight heavyweights Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. Albion meanwhile saw an unbeaten run of three matches come to an end.
Alan Pardew welcomed Toon right fullback Mathieu Debuchy back from a ban in the only change to the side that started the victory over Norwich. Baggies boss Steve Clarke meanwhile made three alterations after seeing a two goal lead slip against West Midlands rivals Aston Villa on Monday.
Billy Jones and Liam Ridgewell returned on the flanks of defence, so Steven Reid and Goran Popov made way.

While the absence of the in-form Fernando Torres would be a problem for the Blues, Samuel Eto’o has performed well when deputising. Manager Jose Mourinho looks to be finally getting the best out of the striker and as a result it lifts the burden off the Chelsea midfield to be getting all the goals.
West Brom know all about the threat of Chelsea and how they’ll play, as manager Steve Clarke has long been a friend and former work colleague of Mourinho. He will name his side to nullify to threat of the Blues on the break, and will hope he can spring a counter at Stamford Bridge.

For anyone who’s interested in gaming, a whole lot of gaming news came out at the Pax East gaming convention this past weekend.
Given my devotion to Marvel and my affinity for playing any game that features Deadpool ever, I was particularly keen to hear the latest news about Marvel Heroes, the free-to-play Mmoarpg (Massively Multiplayer Online Action Role Playing Game) created by David Brevik (of Diablo and Diablo 2 fame) and currently in production at Gazillion Entertainment.
Marvel Heroes, if you haven’t heard about it, is being designed as a free-to-play PC game in which players can advance through the game without spending any money (although there will be a store available for optional purchases). The story for the game, which centers around Doctor Doom and the Cosmic Cube, is written by well-known and multiple award-winning Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis, and Marvel artists are producing comic-style cut-scenes to accompany that story.

Everton forward Kevin Mirallas is a massive doubt after limping off at the weekend with a hamstring complaint.
Seamus Coleman and Darron Gibson are again set to remain on the side-lines with thigh injuries, while this game comes too soon for potential new signing Leroy Fer.
West Brom have concerns over quartet Marc-Antoine Fortune (hamstring), Claudio Yacob (shoulder), Shane Long and Steven Reid (both leg), and Qpr target Peter Odemwingie will not feature following his criticism of the club on Twitter.

Everton have come on leaps and bounds this season with David Moyes’ men nine points and five places better off than they were at this stage of the Premier League last year. A win here would put them level on points with top-four rivals Tottenham Hotspur and give them a real boost in their push for Europe.

West Brom have had an impressive start to the season under new manager Steve Clarke, and their opponents this week will not be looking forward to their visit to the Hawthorns as they currently prop up the rest of the table.
It appears that so many signings in a short amount of time may have had a detrimental affect on Mark Hughe’s squad, and after his promise to the fans of not being involved in a relegation dog-fight this time around, he will be hoping that those words do not come back to haunt him. It does not look pretty for Qpr at the minute, with the team having conceded the second most goals (13) behind Southampton (18) so far this term, and added with the weight of history against them – Hughes has never won a match at the Baggies as a manager – the omens do not look good.

For the home team, 2011/12 has been a season of fluctuation, with some excellent performances, including the December win at St James Park sporadically dotted between less impressive runs of form , which have seen Roy Hodgson’s men take up 14th position in the league. But the Baggies’ last five games have seen just one defeat, and they can realistically hope for a repeat of last year’s top half finish if they can continue that rich run of form into the final games of the season. They certainly play some good football, even when they are beaten, and it is no coincidence that Hodgson’s name is once more being linked with the England manager’s position.

Team news ahead of Sunday afternoon’s Premier League encounter at Old Trafford as Manchester United and West Brom lock horns. Kick-off time is at 2pm and the match is not being screened live anywhere in the UK.
After being rested for the surprise Thursday night Europa League defeat from Athletic Bilbao, veteran Paul Scholes is expected to play some part today and is contention for a starting eleven place.
That game midweek also led to defender Chris Smalling re-opening the nasty head wound he sustained on England duty against Holland. Sir Alex Ferguson is taking the head injury as extremely serious and if there are any doubts about Smalling’s condition he simply won’t play.
Better news for the Red Devils comes with midfielder Tom Cleverley being welcomed back into the fold as he has recovered from an ankle injury. Michael Owen however is still a little way away from recovery.

West Bromwich Albion welcome Norwich City to the Hawthorns this afternoon on the back of a 4-2 win over Cardiff in the Fa Cup, but with just one point from their last three Premier League outings (though it was against Manchester City). Norwich too despatched Championship opposition in the cup – recording a comfortable 4-1 win over Burnley at Carrow Road. Many are expecting them to start slipping any time now – ‘doing a Blackpool’ seems to be the official expression for any team that dares to still be punching above their weight at Christmas nowadays, and we all know what happened there. Canaries fans will know though that their side have yet to experience any real torrid times under maestro Paul Lambert.
So how will the game go this afternoon? Well, the Baggies got the better of the Canaries last time out – seeing out a 1-0 win courtesy of a Peter Odemwingie goal.

West Brom ended 2011 with a storm, beating Newcastle 3-2 in a very impressive performance at St. James’s Park and also won at Blackburn the game before and picked up a point against Manchester City at home. The Baggies defence became only the second side to keep out the City strikers Balottelli, Silva, Aguero and company all season. Though they know their home form could improve with only 7 goals scored at home and too few times they have sent their fans into raptures with strikes.

Steve Kean is a man under pressure, huge pressure. Rovers sit 19th in the league table on 10 points and somehow threw away a 1-0 lead at the Stadium of Light last weekend which dented their survival hopes even more. Even though Blackburn have suffered a torrid start to the season and the supporters – well some of them – are on the side’s back, the players seem to remain behind their coach and there seems to be a real team spirit running through the squad, which is always important when you are in a bid to survive. Rovers did it last season, just about, through winning at Molineux 3-2. But it doesn’t look to good for them this term as we approach the Christmas period. Nigerian striker Yakubu is the only real player keeping the team alive at the moment, with nine goals in ten games, the forward is on great form.

Aston Villa started the game well and pressed Albion up the pitch. Darren Bent had a early shot that blazed over Ben Foster’s bar. An early scare for the visitors. Moments later, Scotland playmaker Barry Bannan went for goal but his shot curled just wide.
Shane Long had to limp off as a result of a malicious Alan Hutton challenge. The Irishman, who already has three goals so far this term, is set to be out for quite a while and...

The long wait is over. Saturday afternoons are fun again, well, Sunday afternoons if the satellite pie face man decides to show the match. Thankfully the Women’s World Cup helped to punctuate the malaise caused by a lack of football this summer, in a completely non perverse appreciating the tournament for sporting merit way of course. England, rather predictably, were eliminated on penalties in the quarter finals. It seems that girls are no better than boys.

Strikes from Wayne Rooney and an own goal from Steven Reid helped Manchester United’s title defending side to victory in their first game of the new season – a trip to the Hawthorns to take on Roy Hodgson’s West Brom. Baggies debutant Shane Long responded in the first half before Ashley Young forced Reid into conceding the winner. The day was dominated however by the performance of new Manchester United ‘keeper David de Gea who was at fault for the West Brom goal, just one week after he came under criticism for his debut at the Charity Shield debut at Wembley.

Celebrated plastic surgeon Dr. Frank Ryan was tweeting before his jeep careered off a cliff in California on Monday, according to his ex-girlfriend.
The surgeon, who had worked on a series of stars including Heidi Montag, Janice Dickinson and Gene Simmons, died after his vehicle crashed down a cliff off California's Pacific Coast Highway.
And his former partner, Charmaine Blake, reveals that the doctor was busy concentrating on his cell phone instead of driving.
She tells People.com, "He lived up in Malibu on a tiny street and he was texting while driving and he accidentally went over the cliff."
California Highway Patrol officials confirm that Ryan was using his phone before his death, but refused to single out that as the cause of the accident.
Officer Steven Reid tells the publication, "It is one of the elements that we are investigating."
Ryan hit headlines earlier this year when he came under fire for transforming Montag with 10 cosmetic procedures in one day.
