Most of us know Billy Corgan as the frontman of Smashing Pumpkins and outspokenness. But he’s also been the Owner and Promoter of the prestigious wrestling promotion the National Wrestling Alliance (Aka Nwa) since 2017. To say that Corgan is busy would be the understatement of the century. So it was surprising to hear that he’s starring in his own reality TV show, Billy Corgan’s Adventures in Carnyland. But I suppose everyone is diversifying in this complicated media landscape.
I was able to catch the first two episodes of Carnyland and it’s a fun enough time. I’d say that it’s very much geared towards wrestling fans, so fans of Smashing Pumpkins may be a little disappointed. But as a big wrestling fan, there’s a lot of interesting insight. They still keep it more Kayfabe than I’d like but that old-school aesthetic is part...

The second time was the charm for Cody Rhodes, who dethroned rival Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 40 Sunday in Philadelphia. WWE took over Lincoln Financial Field over two nights with the biggest question looming. Would the son of the “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes finish the story and do something his dad never did? Answer: A resounding yes. Cody’s wife Brandi Rhodes surprised fans in his entrance and gave him a kiss for good luck. The fans popped at the bell when champion and challenger came face-to-face, fully invested in what they’d waited a year to see one more time. From there, it was a slow burn before things picked up in a big way. Outside interference began with first Jimmy Uso and then Jey Uso. From there, it was Solo, who was neutralized by John Cena. WWE has been around for several decades. Although the wrestling industry has thrilled fans worldwide, it is indisputable that being in the business is challenging. Notwithstanding the demanding nature of the business, several wrestlers and even families have contributed to the popularity of wrestling as a sport today.
And when it comes to wrestling dynasties, few families can match the Rhodes’ impressive record. From patriarch Dusty Rhodes to his sons (Cody and Dustin Rhodes), this wrestling family has left an indelible mark on the world of professional wrestling.
Having said that, the Rhodes family has a long history in professional wrestling, and its members risk everything in the ring to uphold that reputation. Cody Rhodes is already possibly superior to both his father and brother in terms of performance. The youngest son of ‘The American Dream’ rose to fame in 2006 when he began working for WWE.

Cody Rhodes’ road to success has not been easy, for the professional wrestler had to go through several roadblocks to reach where he is now. Yet back in 2016, Rhodes departed from WWE after numerous failed gimmicks. But it was really his run as Stardust that made him leave the organization despite him doing everything to make it work.

When you hear the words “professional wrestler,” whose face comes to mind? “Well, let me tell you something, brother…” there may be no more iconic figure in the world of professional wrestling than Terrence Gene Bollea. But you may know him as Hulk Hogan.
So Wtf happened to Hulk Hogan? With a career that spans over 45 years, a lot. Let’s start at the beginning. But before we do, let’s keep in mind that the source of a lot of what follows is Bollea, himself. The complete record of Terry Bollea’s life is My Life Outside the Ring, his 2009 autobiography, which is more exhaustive than 2002’s Hollywood Hogan. In an industry stocked full of duplicitous people, Hulk Hogan’s long been considered to have perhaps the most strained relationship with the truth of any of them. But neither should we let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Cody Rhodes has one of the most intriguing WWE storylines, one that has had fans captivated ever since its debut. However, despite the twists and turns that plague the story, fans have found a very unusual connection between the story that Rhodes is playing out and the storyline of Dinsey’s most popular animated story.

Fans have equated the beats of the storyline that Rhodes has been following with Lion King, the seminal Disney classic that adapted William Shakespeare’s Hamlet for its young audience. There was a time not so long ago when Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was the most untouchable and powerful man in Hollywood. He was the highest-paid actor in 2016, 2019, 2020, and 2021, and there was such a push in 2017 for him to run for president that he starred in a "Saturday Night Live" sketch about it. His inclusion in the "Fast & Furious" franchise starting with "Fast Five" helped catapult the series into an international box office juggernaut, and considering his career in the wrestling ring made him one of the most well-loved figures in all of pop culture, it's understandable that he would have a lot more pull with studios than the average performer.
But Dwayne Johnson is far from invincible.
Reports of his on-and-off feud with "Fast" co-star Vin Diesel painted him as a bit high maintenance, and when the public learned of the "No Lose" clause in his contract (which...

Cody Rhodes has much to celebrate. The “American Nightmare” won the 2024 WWE Royal Rumble and punched his ticket to the main event of WrestleMania 40. It’s the first time in more than 25 years since someone, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, has done it back-to-back. This came a few days after the news broke the popular superstar would forever be immortalized on the cover of the upcoming “WWE 2K24” video game. Adding even more meaning to the occasion is the fact players who pre-order the standard edition will receive the “Nightmare Family Pack.” It’s a bonus pack of content featuring four playable superstars including two alternate versions of Rhodes’ past personas (The “Undashing” masked Cody and Stardust) and the 1976 version of his late father, Dusty Rhodes, and one of the WWE Hall of Famer’s biggest rivals in “Superstar” Billy Graham. Pro wrestler Terry Funk has died, according to WWE and pro wrestler Mick Foley. Funk was 79 years old.
Along with wrestling, the highly respected performer worked in film, including multiple Sylvester Stallone projects as far back as 1978’s “Paradise Alley.” Funk also appeared in “Over the Top,” did stunts in “Rocky III” and choreographed the climactic fight in “Rocky V.”
Funk was also featured in the cult classic film “Road House” and Johnny Knoxville’s “The Ringer.” He also had TV roles on shows such as “Quantum Leap” and “Swamp Thing.”
Funk was best known in his later years for pioneering “hardcore” wrestling, which involves using weapons and sharp objects, such as barbed wire, to both simulate and cause actual damage in order to increase the drama in a match. This often involved copious amounts of bleeding. Funk was also infamous for wrestling multiple “retirement” matches before quickly coming back afterward.

When Cody Rhodes left WWE in 2016, it sent shockwaves. How could the son of the legendary “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes leave a sure thing and six-figure contract behind for the unknown? The driven performer’s gamble paid off big time, building a name all his own working across many companies. He then in effect helped change the landscape of the industry with The Young Bucks thanks to their one-off independent show All In. Despite naysayers, the show sold out a 10,000-seat arena and set the gears in motion for what would become All Elite Wrestling. Rhodes once again surprised fans in 2022 when the 38-year-old exited Aew, leaving behind the position of executive vice president and regular top spot on the card. At WrestleMania 38 the “American Nightmare” returned home, setting social media ablaze. A common thread for each of these chapters of his career has been the decision to bet on himself.

In 1969, he decided to enter the world of professional wrestling, and adopted the ring name Billy Graham, as a tribute to the...

Cody Runnels is a professional wrestler who most of you would know as either “Cody Rhodes” or his former face-painted WWE character “Stardust.” These days, the son of Dusty Rhodes (real name Virgil Runnels, Jr.) and brother of Vince McMahon’s veteran grappler Goldust (Dustin Runnels) is just going by his first name in pro-wrestling promotions New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor. Oh, and he also happens to be World Champion of the latter, a title he’ll defend this weekend in Atlanta. Why Runnels (pictured above from his WWE days) can’t use “Rhodes” is kind of complicated but mostly simple,...

The wrestling world is reeling at the news that the legendary ‘American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes is no longer with us. Real name Virgil Runnels Jr, he was and will forever be one of the most influential men in the history of professional wrestling; a man who inspired generations.
For it was this multi-promotion Hall of Famer who lived his American Dream. A man who made the most of what he was given, Rhodes treated us to some of the greatest rivalries and matches through the history of the sport; even while he boasted something of an unfavourable look and unmistakeable lisp. Rhodes embraced his characteristics, used them to his advantage and soared over the course of his distinguished career, which spanned nearly 40 years by all accounts.

There have been few superstars in wrestling history who have been associated with one company as strongly as Sting was with WCW. Through all the ups and the downs that the company went through over the years, Sting never waivered in his support of the promotion that made him a worldwide superstar. While mainstay WCW stars such as the Andersons, Dusty Rhodes, Lex Luger, and Ric Flair all jumped ship to the rival WWF at one time or another, Sting stood out as the one guy who never made that move. The Great American Bash was a show concept created by WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes. He was a key figure in the Nwa in the 1980s as a top babyface as well as a booker. He came up with a lot of concepts in those days in addition to Gab, including WarGames and Starrcade. In the beginning, Gab was something the Nwa did as a live event before they were doing PPVs. Then they taped it. Then in 1988 it became a regular PPV. When the Nwa became WCW in 1991, the Gab name came along with it.

For some who are against “Stardust,” the Monday, June 16th latest turn in the career of WWE’s Cody Rhodes, there may be one glimmer of joy in all of this – at least Dusty Rhodes is now employed by WWE, so possibly ribbing his legacy isn’t so bad when he’s earning money from it?
Yes, the recent on-screen dissension between Cody Rhodes and his brother Goldust has ended us up with the debut of “Stardust,” Cody now appearing as a gold and black bodysuit, face-paint and boot-wearing clone of Dustin Rhodes’ Goldust character he’s portrayed for much of the last eighteen years of his professional wrestling career. As much as it may appear to be an incredible black mark on WWE and Cody’s career, it may be wise to reconsider such a rash generalization.
The era of white-meat babyfaces is dying on the vine.

On the heels of WrestleMania 30, WWE will be taking it to the extreme at their sixth annual Extreme Rules pay-per-view on May 4 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Given the PG aspirations of WWE in recent years, however, the action won’t nearly be as “extreme” as when the term was coined in the more violent, hard-hitting 1990s.
WWE considers gratuitous chairshots and bloodletting too extreme for TV nowadays, but such excesses were a necessary evil when they first rose to notoriety, insists a man who personified the era.
“Extreme rules, hardcore wrestling — whatever they want to call it — was born out of a necessity to survive,” said the hardcore legend Terry Funk, who revolutionized the business. “In Ecw, hardcore wrestling wasn’t done just for the fun of it. It was done for a purpose, for a reason. And for me, it was done to exist and produce a revenue for my family.

Hardcore wrestling icon Abdullah the Butcher, known for his violent bloodbaths against the Sheik, Dusty Rhodes, and Bruiser Brody, would have loved a crack at the Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania.
“We never wrestled, but I believe I could have beaten the Undertaker’s streak before my hip problems,” said Abdullah the Butcher in a recent interview with WhatCulture. “I need a new hip, and I’m getting close to getting one.
“And I still look 100 per cent good. If you were to put me with the Undertaker today, we could sell out any place in the world. And we would make a hell of a lot of money.”
Hailed as “the Madman from Sudan,” Abdullah the Butcher (born Larry Shreve) grew up in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, learning the martial arts of judo and karate before making his wrestling debut in 1958. “Montreal promoter Jack Britton took one look at me and said,...

I’ve heard it said that somewhere between science and superstition, there is another world. A world of darkness.
It’s a world that haunted my dreams as a child, from the first time I saw Kevin Sullivan and his Army of Darkness spreading their eerily twisted messages across the Nwa.
“Our cause is not for evil,” said Sullivan during an interview for Championship Wrestling from Florida in 1982. “Because all we’re looking for is refuge from this cold, cruel world.”
Ring a bell?
Sullivan’s dark mystique, his messianic charisma, his penchant for dark riddles — they all seem to have been resurrected in the form of Bray Wyatt.
Take, for instance, these words recently delivered by the leader of the Wyatt Family to nemesis John Cena:
“This is a terrible world,” Wyatt drawled. “A cold, cold dark and lonely place. You stand for these illusions. But...

When you picture what a professional wrestler is supposed to look like you probably picture someone like John Cena or Hulk Hogan. A larger-than-life character who has huge muscles and looks like he could snap you in half like a twig. Wrestlers have evolved into walking action figures with physiques that look like they were carved out of granite.
However, that’s not always the case. There have been quite a few wrestlers who simply don’t look like they could run ten feet, let alone wrestle a 15 minute match. These workers appear like they have never even seen the inside of a gym and the only workouts they get are 12 oz. curls. Chances are that the only workout partners these wrestlers ever had were Colonel Sanders and Ronald McDonald.
Yet, these workers all found a degree of success in wrestling. Some of them got by based on their charisma,...
