Exclusive: Emmy-winning Modern Family writer-producer Jeff Richman has signed a three-year overall deal with the studio behind the hit ABC comedy, 20th Century Fox TV. Fox has picked up two comedy pilots: The Beast, from Emmy-winning Everybody Loves Raymond writer Tucker Cawley, and an untitled project developed through the network's Creative Writer Development Initiative.
ABC also has ordered two comedy pilots, one from Friends executive producer Shana Goldberg-Meehan and one titled See Jayne Run.
On the pilot directing front, Sheree Folkson has signed on to helm ABC's drama Judy's Got a Gun.
* Based on the British series Beast, created by Simon Nye, The Beast is a multicamera workplace comedy centering on a charming and womanizing veterinarian who hates animals but loves the perks his job provides. Cawley is the writer/executive producer.
CBS Paramount Network TV is producing with the British format's rights-holder, FremantleMedia North America. The project originally was picked up by Fox in October with a put pilot commitment (HR 10/13).
