The 60th Cinema Audio Society Awards named Universal’s Oppenheimer the winner of its marquee Live Action Motion Picture category Saturday at its annual ceremony honoring the year’s best in feature film and TV sound mixing.
The victory gives the Christopher Nolan epic about the creator of the atomic bomb a leg up leading into the Oscars; it is nominated in Sound category among its leading 13 overall nominations.
This year’s marquee Cas Live Action Motion Picture category featured sound artisans from two of the five of this year’s Best Sound Oscar nominees in Oppenheimer and Netflix’s Maestro. They were joined in tonight’s race by Warner Bros’ Barbie, Neon’s Ferrari and Apple’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
Last year, Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick won in the category. It went on to repeat the feat at the Oscars.

The Cinema Audio Society has announced its nominees for the 53rd Annual Cas Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for 2016 in seven categories.
On the film side, strong contenders like “La La Land,” “Rogue One” and “Zootopia” picked up nods, while television series like “Game of Thrones,” “blackish” and “Stranger Things” also received nominations. For the first year, the Cas is honoring Documentary films, with nods like “O.J.: Made in America” and “13th” rounding out this inaugural category.
Missing from the film nods are more than a few surprises, including “Deepwater Horizon,” “The Jungle Book” and “Silence.”
“We are blessed this year with a rich portfolio of Cinema Audio art applied. As the creative contributions of sound mixing to modern filmmaking becomes more obvious to the world at large, these productions truly represent the talents of our community,” said Mark Ulano, Cas President, of the announcement.

Sir Paul McCartney wrote an essay in support of Britain's Queen Elizabeth aged 10. The Beatles star wrote the document to commemorate the queen's 1953 coronation, and impressed Liverpool's Lord Mayor so much Paul was awarded a book token. In the essay, Paul pays tribute to "our lovely young Queen". He wrote the 300-word piece while studying at Joseph Williams Junior School in Belle Vale, Liverpool. It is believed to be earliest piece of his work in existence, and was given to the local library. Kevin Roache, who found the work in library archives and is writing about the McCartney family, said: "I'm not surprised that it was pro-royalist, bearing in mind attitudes of the time and because his father,...
