Mötley Crüe have unveiled the new single “Dogs of War” along with a visually stunning music video. The track marks the legendary rock band’s first new music in five years, and first song with new guitarist John 5.
“Dogs of War” features John 5 prominently, as it contains some heavy riffage and a tantalizing guitar solo. Lyrically, the song is one of defiance, with lines like, “Don’t let the dogs of war/ Come knocking at your door/ As we’re crawling ‘cross the floor/ They’ll make your skin crawl/ They’ll make the stars fall/ Do they matter after all.”

Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx has opened up about the ongoing legal saga involving the band’s longtime guitarist Mick Mars.
In a new interview with Planet Rock, Sixx doubled down on a recent assertion made by the band’s manager Allen Kovac that Mars was being subjected to elder abuse by his legal representatives. According to Sixx, the Crüe express no ill will toward Mars, but are looking to move forward with current plans involving replacement guitarist John 5, including a 2023 world tour (tickets available here) and recording new music.
“It’s a nice time [for Mötley Crüe] and it’s kind of inspired us to write a little bit,” Sixx said. “We love our history, we’re very proud of everything we’ve done. We’ve always been really supportive of Mick no matter what Mick was going through. We’re just happy with where we’re at right now.”

Mötley Crüe have entered the studio to record music with veteran producer Bob Rock.
Drummer Tommy Lee dropped the news on Instagram, sharing a slideshow of images from inside the studio and an enthusiastic remark: “Hit that mother fucking record button Mr. Rock!!! Go!” Meanwhile, Nikki Sixx posted a number of black & white shots, writing, “In the studio with Bob Rock.”
Current touring guitarist John 5 also made a post about the sessions, so it looks like he’ll be featured on any future Crüe studio recordings. Aside from touring, it was undetermined how active the longtime Rob Zombie guitarist would be in the band. But with founding axeman Mick Mars clearly out of the picture, it looks like John 5 will also be Mötley Crüe’s go-to session man.

Origins is a recurring series giving artists a space to break down everything that went into their latest release. Today, producer Bob Rock digs into his posthumous Gord Downie collaboration “Greyboy Says.”
Prominent producer Bob Rock and Gord Downie, the late frontman of The Tragically Hip, have released “Greyboy Says,” the latest preview of their upcoming album, Lustre Parfait.
Downie worked with the producer for over a decade to create Lustre Parfait. Serving as the opening track of the album, “Greyboy Says” was inspired by the work of Led Zeppelin, Bo Diddley, David Bowie, and more.
After Downie’s passing, Rock retained the original vocals and tempo of the song while rearranging the instrumental aspects. “The track that Gord wrote the song to is not what you hear today,” Rock tells Consequence. “There was an uneasy feeling I had after hearing the melody and lyrics that Gord came up with...

Christmas as we know it was invented in the spring of 2011, when a former fishing trawler crewman from British Columbia and a renowned heavy metal producer teamed up in a studio in Hollywood. Assisted only by a scrum of session players, a children’s choir and a 60-piece orchestra, they conjured mistletoe magic in the crisp LA air.
The ex-commercial fisherman was Michael Bublé, who, as a teenager, had spent six summers at sea alongside his father – a period that taught him the value of hard work and of keeping a clear head in challenging circumstances. The producer was Bob Rock, best known as midwife to Metallica’s Black album. The record they made together was, of course, Bublé’s Christmas.
Bublé didn’t quite invent the 21st-century Christmas, with its mix of super-charged sentimentality and planet-wreaking conspicuous consumption. The John Lewis marketing department, and its ruthlessly twee and weepy adverts,...

Michael Bublé is the leading man in his new music video for single “I’ll Never Not Love You.” Directed by Andrew Donoho, the clip features Bublé and his wife, Luisana Lopilato, recreating memorable scenes from several iconic romantic comedies.
Paying tribute to classics like Love, Actually, The Notebook, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Casablanca, and Jerry Maguire, many of the video’s scenes are near-exact replicas of the original films. The singer has fittingly dubbed the clip a “cinematic love letter to the movies.”

A previously unheard recording of “Need Your Love So Bad” — a blues song that late Fleetwood Mac frontman Peter Green sang with the group in its early days — will come out in conjunction with the release of a new book about Green, The Albatross Man, this October. Rolling Stone has a sneak peek of the track this Wednesday.
Green recorded the vocal in his mother’s attic sometime in the mid-Sixties; the more familiar recording of the track came out on Fleetwood Mac’s 1969 LP, The Pious Bird of Good Omen.

“Oh, baby, let the bad times roll,” the Offspring sing on the title track to their new album, resigning themselves to a world in peril. Rod Stewart, Michael Bublé, k.d. lang, Feist and others have covered Ron Sexsmith’s songs. But like Anvil (whose “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” documentary was a hit on the circuit in 2010), Sexsmith has found that being Canadian is not always the best thing for manifesting a legacy career in music.
Just as Anvil seems to always place second to others on the bill, and fellow Canadian Leonard Cohen, though a famed poet, seems to always be runner-up to Bob Dylan, Sexsmith grafts a career from his pained aptitude for songwriting and has a sort of alphabetical relationship with the fame and the fortune it brings: The Sex Pistols would be listed near Sexsmith in any music compendium,...

The South by Southwest Film Festival announced its feature film line-up Wednesday, piling heaps of cinematic goodness on an already stellar program that includes Jodie Foster’s The Beaver, Duncan Jones’ Source Code, Ti West’s The Innkeepers, Conan O’Brien’s tour documentary, and the latest Simon Pegg-Nick Frost comedy, Paul, with Seth Rogen.
Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) returns to the festival with her latest film, Red Riding Hood starring Amanda Seyfried, after the writer-director spoke on a screenwriting panel in 2009.
Plus a few favorites from the Sundance Film Festival last month, like Tom McCarthy’s Win Win, Morgan Spurlock’s The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, and Max Winkler’s Ceremony.
I’m extremely excited, even if I’m already having flashbacks to intense sleep deprivation. Like the last two years, I’ll be on the ground covering as much of the festival as I can within the packed 9 days of screenings,...

Our Lady Peace, who made Billboard Hot 100 debut with their 2002 single "Somewhere Out There", are gearing up to release their new studio effort "Burn Burn" across U.S. on Tuesday, July 21. Produced by their frontman Raine Maida, the album is "a little bit mature, but a proper rock record." It will carry ten new songs with two additional bonus tracks.
Commenting on why he steps behind production table instead of hiring longtime producer Bob Rock for the job, Raine said, "I was always involved, even with Bob [who produced 2002's 'Gravity' and 2005's 'Healthy in Paranoid Times']. I'm not a control freak by any means, but I've always had a vision of the music and how it should be." He added, "I do think collaboration is a very important thing. I have a high regard for collaboration. It's just the timing of this, and where I'm at and where the band's at, we're much better served doing it ourselves. It's really exciting.

American punk-pop outfit The Offspring have discussed plans for their ninth studio album. The group confirmed that they recently held meetings with producer Bob Rock about the follow-up to 2008's Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace. The new LP may feature tracks which were discarded from sessions for their last three albums. Guitarist Noodles told Billboard: "[Frontman Dexter Holland and Bob] went over a couple of things that were left off the last record and songs that were even left off Splinter or maybe even Conspiracy Of One and kind of looked at some things with free eyes and see if there was anything there that can be worked on." He also confirmed that the band are hopeful that the record will be out in 2010. However, he admitted that it is unlikely (more)...

After a six-year hiatus, all four members of Creed are reuniting for a summer tour and a new album, it has been announced. The tour, the band's first in seven years, will kick off Aug. 6 in Pittsburgh.
The multi-platinum selling Orlando-based rock band, who scored hits with songs such as "Weathered" and "My Sacrifice," will return with a new record tentatively titled "Full Circle." They have already recorded six demos for the LP and are currently searching for a producer.
"I wouldn't call it a reunion. It's a renewing and a rebirth. I missed my boys and wanted to create music with them again. We're all thrilled to have a second chance to make a first impression," Frontman Scott Stapp told Rolling Stone magazine. "We're reached out to Brendan O'Brien, Mutt Lange, Bob Rock, Steve Lillywhite and six or seven more. We want to put ourselves around the best and have them.

The Offspring have come out, bringing a music video for their single "Kristy, Are You Doing Okay". In the Lex Halaby-directed video, singer Dexter Holland is seen strumming his guitar and performing the track in a room full of ripped-off notes stuck on its wall.
"Kristy, Are You Doing Okay" is one of the songs listed in The Offspring's eight major studio album "Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace". Written by Dexter Holland, the single comes from the production hands of Bob Rock, the mastermind behind Metallica's 1991 self-titled studio album.
"Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace" itself has hit the U.S. market since June 2008 via Columbia Records. The record debuted at number 10 on Billboard Hot 200, selling around 46,000 copies in its first week in stores.

The Offspring bring out a new music video to promote their new single "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid". Assisted by Chris Hopewell, the same director who helped making the music video of Radiohead's "Take There", the video mostly narrates mankind as a creature having a never-satisfied basic character.
The music video starts with a capture of a peasant working in a garden. Suddenly, a plant goddess appears and gives the peasant a magical, golden acoustic guitar and he begins strumming to the song. Entering town and playing for the locals with his magical abilities of the guitar, the peasant becomes famous and that earns him much money.
As the video continues rolling on, the peasant is seen playing for infested townspeople. Wanting more than the money he has, the peasant demands from one of them her expensive necklace while the plant goddess looks upon him with a disapproving look. On the next scene,...

The 2004 documentary Some Kind Of Monster got credit for exposing the private side of Metallica's transformation from metal godhead into a pack of spoiled, creatively arthritic millionaires, but from Load to Napster-bashing—milestones so widely reviled that their names alone signify shark-jumping—that shift was already public knowledge. Say what you will about 2003's St. Anger, the troubled, willfully tuneless record whose creation Monster documented: As a group-therapy session and creative reset button, it was the only honest thing Metallica could've written at the time. Death Magnetic, on the other hand, is the record Metallica had to write to stay relevant after St. Anger's tragic group portrait. Ditching longtime producer (and long-suspected weak link) Bob Rock for rock-star-crisis expert Rick Rubin, the band positioned itself for renewal even before entering the studio. And in reconciling the moody,...
