A former priest accused of killing a Texas beauty queen in 1960 was convicted of murder on Thursday, according to multiple news outlets. On Friday, he was reportedly sentenced to life in prison for his crime.
John Feit, 85, was emotionless as he learned jurors had reached a guilty verdict after deliberating for more than six hours, according to the Associated Press and the San Antonio Express-News.
Relatives of the victim, Irene Garza, who was 25 when she was murdered in McAllen, Texas, hugged each other after the verdict was read, the Express-News reports.

When Daniel Bryan signed with the WWE, his mentor William Regal warned him – and the way Bryan tells it, these are his exact words – “Your wrestling career is what you did before this. Anything after is just a bonus.”
And that’s the thing that people don’t get about WWE: their spiel about being an entertainment conglomerate isn’t just empty corporate rhetoric. ‘WWE Superstars’ are used to having ten minute matches cut down to six or less; to being denied permission to be creative in the ring; to having to tone down their natural inclination to steal the show, because they’re too low down the card to wrestle as though they matter.

Many of us will have already begun thinking of New Year’s resolutions, promises such as going to the gym more or improving our diets. In the case of WWE superstars, they already go to the gym a hell of a lot, and most will have impeccable diets as well – so what on earth can they hope to improve upon in 2016?
For many performers on the roster, a complete overhaul of their gimmicks wouldn’t be a bad place to start.
A depressingly high number of superstars on the WWE roster have gimmicks that simply aren’t working. For various reasons, many wrestlers simply aren’t connecting with the fans – whether it be a lack of passion for an ill-fitting persona, the wrong face/heel alignment, or the simple case of working the same gimmick for far too long.

Ricardo Rodriguez has been rather outspoken since leaving the WWE, and this week is no exception.
Upon news that WWE officially signed Kevin Steen, Ricardo took to Twitter in a bitter rant saying “Congrats.. I hope he at least looked at you while shaking hands at one point and did call you fat as f–k. #OhMemories.” The tweet was in response to a photo of Steen alongside WWE COO Triple H.
Much like Rodriguez, Steen has been criticized in the past for his weight issues. According to sources Rodriguez was having an issue maintaining a weight goal that the WWE set for him. Due to this the WWE opted to keep him off of television. In Steen’s case he lost weight prior to coming into the company.
Ricardo wasn’t done there, criticizing Triple H and accusing him of making somewhat racial jokes. “#BumbleBee was his name for me…...

Ricardo Rodriguez’s abrupt release was initially seen as nothing more than a basic budget cut during a tough time for the WWE. New details have emerged to what led to the situation, and budget cuts don’t seem to be the primary situation.
Rodriguez asked the company for his release because he had grown frustrated due to not being used as a wrestler. Even though he’d been used on some WWE TV as the masked El Local, he was replaced by Sin Cara due to an injury.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it also appears as if there was an issue regarding Rodriguez’s weight. The WWE set a weight goal for him, and he was having issues achieving and maintaining it. This may have prevented Ricardo from moving up the ladder in the WWE.
Even though his contract expired in just two weeks, Rodriguez still wanted out.

Recent WWE budget cuts affected all divisions with the company, and not even veteran employees were safe.
Mark Yeaton, who has been with the WWE for decades, was given his walking papers this week due to the ongoing budget cuts. Yeaton as served as a timekeeper and bell ringer for the company, a job the WWE apparently viewed as expendable. Throughout his 29 years with the WWE, Yeaton had rang a WWE bell well over 100,000 times.
While Yeaton was a timekeeper in his primary role, he’s possibly best remembered for being the guy who tossed beers to “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, often with pinpoint precision. Stone Cold tweeted following Yeaton’s release, saying “#Swigofbeer to my old beer thrower Mark Yeaton. Best damn beer thrower in the world and a great guy.”

Vince McMahon has contacted WWE employees to offer reassurances over job security, reports PWinsider. The WWE Chairman sent out an email later on Thursday night, following the release of 7% of WWE’s Headquarter employees earlier in the day. Those releases were a cost cutting measure in reaction to the WWE Network’s average 700,000 sales. The budget cuts equated to around 55 employees.
McMahon’s subsequent email revealed the staff reduction process was over. If you got the email, you were still in a job. As for those who lost their jobs, they were considered expendable workers in minor positions.
It remains to be seen if WWE’s cost cutting will impact upon any of their on-air talent. Ricardo Rodriguez was released earlier this week, but he hadn’t been used significantly in a long while, it was hardly a shock to see him moved on. The main WWE roster releases came in June,...

Today is a big day for WWE because of the earnings call that will take place with the latest Network subscriber count revealed.
Optimism over the subscriber count is worryingly low and PWInsider reports that mass layoffs are expected over the Network’s underwhelming performance. While nothing is for sure at this point, the report warns that 10% of WWE’s employees could lose their jobs. That doesn’t mean just wrestlers. It includes office staff, people in production, the marketing department, the website and so on. It’s a huge company, so plenty of people are going to be affected.
Perhaps the first victim of the cutting is Ricardo Rodriguez, who it was revealed by WWE.com last night that he is gone from the company.
Back in April the number of subscribers WWE shared was 667,000. When the Network started the goal was to have 1 million subscribers in the Us.

WWE have released Ricardo Rodriguez on the eve of the latest Network subscriber numbers announcement. WWE.com revealed the news, wishing him the best in his future endeavors.
Last night it was speculated that mass layoffs at Titan Towers are due imminently with the latest WWE Network subscriber numbers expected to be low. As significant as 10% of WWE’s staff could be in danger of losing their jobs and it’s unlikely Rodriguez will be the only notable name layed off.
We are hours away from that subscriber number announcement.

The WWE Network has, at this point, featured two WWE PPV’s and, with this event, two Nxt Special Events. The second two-hour Nxt Special, titled Takeover will feature matches that feature a selection of Nxt.
The show opens with the first match of the night, Adam Rose, along with his posse of party people, entering the Nxt arena for a match against Camacho. The fans are on Rose’s side throughout the match and they react to him and his offence. Camacho looks to be in great shape but it never appears that he has a chance of winning against Rose, who has recently made his debut on the main WWE roster. The match, not particularly a long one, ends when Rose hits his finisher and pins the Samoan youngster before leaving with his party-timers.
Result: Rose wins.

Alberto Del Rio has a problem. In less than one year after his WWE in-ring debut in August of 2010, Alberto Del Rio found himself winning the WWE championship. Not only did Del Rio become WWE champion, but he became the first ever Mexican-born WWE champion. While this is a cause for celebration for most, it was absolutely detrimental to the Alberto Del Rio character.

The transfer window is now just around the corner, and there is certainly plenty of interest in German football right now. In fact, key stats from Who Scored illustrates that there are a number of top performing players within the Bundesliga this season.
It’s certain well within the realms of possibility that Premier League clubs will be thinking about adding to their squad from Germany, and that is very much the purpose of this latest slideshow. I’m especially thinking about the teams involved in the title race here.
It has been mentioned plenty of times before that the Bundesliga is quite similar in terms of the style of football as the Epl. Nxt begins with the Raw General Manager, Brad Maddox, talking with Cj Parker and Tyler Breeze, he pairs them up to team together later in the night.
We head to the ring for a tag-team turmoil match to determine the number one contenders to the Nxt Tag Team Championships. Enzo and Colin Cassidy make their way to the ring, Enzo is a riot on the microphone and the “S.A.W.F.T…Sawft” line is over. Very over. The first team out to face “Big Caz” and Enzo are Breeze and Parker, the hippy and the selfie. We get a “Breeze is Gorgeous” chant. Parker and Enzo have a nice few moments before Cassidy tags in and nails Parker for the three-count. The next team out are Rusev and Dawson, along with their manager and friend, Sylvester Lafort. The team is now named “The Fighting Legionnaires” Some solid power stuff from Cassidy and Rusev.

This week will be no exception as we have the greatness of two Englishman behind the booth in Wade Barrett and William Regal. The United Kingdom definitely made a world of difference in how the product was presented on both programs. Let’s begin looking at this week’s edition of Main Event.

The Main Event and Nxt this week showed a very European flavor with double duty from Antonio Césaro. The former Us champion showed why, despite popular opinion, he is not boring. Hopefully his future will change soon enough. And he will be at the level that we all know he deserves. A card-carrying example of this was this week’s Main Event featured contest as Antonio versus Sheamus.
The match between the two men was a smash mouth back-and-forth contest. There was a segment in which Antonio hit a European uppercut as Sheamus was coming off the top rope with a shoulder block, which was a thing of beauty. The Celtic warrior was definitely trying to get the very bare-bones Cesaro over to management. But I think the office just sees him as that mechanic that can work with anybody. Nothing more. Nothing less. As sad as that is to say.

Dolph Ziggler, WWE’s new World Heavyweight Champion, was forced to sit out of the Extreme Rules Pay-Per-View due to a concussion caused by Jack Swagger. The WWE Universe witnessed the incident on the May 10th episode of SmackDown, where Swagger kicked Ziggler in the face as he reached out for a ladder, (thrown into the ring by Alberto Del Rio) causing Ziggler to fly backwards onto the mat.
This was going to be Dolph’s first big title defense as the champ, and it was supposed to be a triple-threat ladder match between Ziggler, Swagger and Del Rio.
“Creative” was forced to come up with a match for Swagger and Del Rio, since without the champion everything that they had been working with in the past had to be thrown out the window. The team came up with the idea of having Swagger and Del Rio face off in...

The Extreme Rules card is shaping up to be a killer. In recent years, the first PPV of the WWE’s business year often turns out superior to the Wrestlemania that preceded it, partly because less features are being crammed into the runtime and expectations are comparatively low.
So far, we have Brock Lesnar vs. Triple in a Cage match (both stars curiously absent from Raw this week), Cena vs. Ryback for the WWE Title, and the World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat between Ziggler, Del Rio and Swagger, which will now be contested as a Ladder Match. That stipulation was decided by Del Rio on Raw after his team won the “Battle of the Managers” Triple Threat. Yes, that’s right; in a sure-fire ratings-booster to kick off last night’s show, Ricardo Rodriguez snuck a win over Zeb Coulter and Big E Langston. You can probably guess which guy he pinned.

“You’ve got 20 days left to pick a side,” said Cena to the Pittsburgh crowd, as part of his obligatory stand-and-point-at-the-Wrestlemania-sign promo. It’s a fair ask, especially if you’re placing money on the match; I’d encourage you all to bet life savings on John Cena defeating The Rock for the WWE Championship. Aside from gambling prospects, I can’t get myself reasonably excited for this year’s rematch, still decidedly bitter that The Rock took the title from Cm Punk, and never overly enamoured with John Cena following ten years of his repetitious superhuman feats.
“They don’t want to see you at Wrestlemania, John,” said Titus O’Neill as inexplicable new character Rufus Pancake Patterson, in the role of promo-interrupting squash bait. “What they want to see is the Primetime Players!” Well, yes, Rufus, that is true, but let’s provide further contextualisation: the people want...

Thank you Gods of Wrestling! The Not So Great Khali is out of Elimination Chamber. In his place The World’s Fattest, erm, Strongest Man. Hallelujah.
Cody Rhodes had a successful return to Smackdown’s singles division. Unfortunately it came at the expense of Kofi Kingston, a man in desperate need of a heel turn.
Big Show was humiliated again by Alberto Del Rio. After a pretty strong victory over Kane, Show was on the receiving end of more chicanery at the hands of the Heavyweight Champion and his Bff Ricardo Rodriguez. What WWE hopes to achieve by making Show look ridiculous after building him as a monster for months is beyond me. Why would he be left in tears?

Stop the press! Jack Swagger is back! Is there any bigger news this year than that? Screw the wacky Rock/Punk finish at the Rumble, the All American American’s surprise return is the biggest news so far this year (maybe) and was as awesome as it was unexpected. So unexpected in fact that many of us were left wondering how quickly he would be discarded during the show. Amazingly after all was said as done Swagger was still in the running to be contender for Alberto Del Rio’s World Heavyweight Title and he had also beat Kofi Kingston by submission. Let’s hope WWE don’t drop the ball with this brilliant young man again.
Other contenders were revealed as part of the Elimination Chamber match too. Sheamus, Randy Orton, Kane, Daniel Bryan and, erm, The Great Khali will join Swagger in the number one contender match. I...

What Culture’s review of this past Sunday’s WWE No Way Out pay-per-view that featured four title matches, three unannounced matches and a firing…
World Heavyweight Championship: Dolph Ziggler vs Sheamus – World Heavyweight Championship Match
The opening match of the show consisted of the World Heavyweight Title being defended which is a sad indictment of the current WWE product. The match itself was very good however, Ziggler looked strong and competitive throughout, getting in some good moves and while Sheamus reigned victorious with a clean win, Ziggler managed to show how over with the fans he really is (Ziggler chants continuously echoed the arena).
