ABC Family has greenlighted "The Cutting Edge: Fire & Ice," the fourth installment in the MGM-produced ice skating franchise that started with the 1992 feature "The Cutting Edge."
Following a direct-to-video sequel "The Cutting Edge: Going for Gold," the franchise moved to TV with ABC Family's 2008 movie "The Cutting Edge: Chasing a Dream" starring Francia Raisa as hockey player-turned-figure skater Alex Delgado.
In "Fire & Ice," Alex segues into teaching after her skating career comes to an abrupt halt when her partner on and off the ice is injured.
This time around, Raisa is joined by Brendan Fehr, who stars as James Van Behr, the smoldering bad boy of speedskating, who pairs up with Alex. The film chronicles the duo's grueling practice regimen and tempestuous relationship as they prepare for competition.
Stephen Herek ("Mr. Holland's Opus") is directing from a script by Holly Brix. Craig Roessler, Sara Berrisford and Hudson Hickman are exec producing.

Producers are betting Bret Easton Ellis’ novel and screen adaptation of American Psycho will translate to a stage musical, with original 1980s-inspired songs and familiar covers of hits from the era, says the Hollywood Reporter. The Johnson-Roessler Co.’s David Johnson, Craig Roessler and Jesse Singer, the Collective’s Aaron Ray and XYZ Films’ Nate Bolotin have partnered to acquire, develop and produce the tale of violent Wall Street investment banker Patrick Bateman. Ellis and Edward R. Pressman, the producer of Mary Harron’s 1999 film adaptation with Christian Bale, will serve as consulting producers. No director, book writer or songwriters have yet been brought on board the project, but producers say they’re in early talks with some potential dramatists and hope to stage by 2010 with an eye for Broadway. Musical killers have had mixed success onstage, from the acclaimed “Sweeney Todd” and tepidly received “Assassins” to the disastrous “Carrie.

Patrick Bateman may have been a very unhappy investment banker at Pierce & Pierce who never could get a reservation at Dorcia's, but at least he will be getting his own American Psycho Broadway musical!
I doubt Bret Easton Ellis ever envisioned his violent/satirical look at the age of excess to be portrayed as a song and dance gig, but we've seen far stranger (The Fly: The Opera anyone?). However, according to THR, the think-tank of Johnson-Roessler Co.'s David Johnson, Craig Roessler and Jesse Singer, the Collective's Aaron Ray and XYZ Films' Nate Bolotin have banded together with the film adaptation's producers, Ellis and Edward R. Pressman, to bring Bateman's sexual and violent antics to the stage.
A date of 2010 has been set for American Psycho's debut, though no director or songwriters have been brought on board. The rights to songs created by Huey Lewis and the News...

Dennie Gordon will helm the indie political satire "Harrison for America", the first project produced by Johnson-Roessler Co., a new film and TV production company in Santa Monica headed by David Johnson and Craig Roessler.
Penned by Alex Berger (ABC's "Commander in Chief"), "Harrison" is a behind-the-scenes look at the cutthroat world of political fundraising. Berger, the son of President Clinton's National Security Adviser Sandy Berger, wrote the script after interviewing professional fundraisers in Washington and Los Angeles.
"Our vision is to fill the broad, commercial void for socially and politically relevant film and television," Johnson said. " 'Harrison' represents the type of content we are committed to delivering to the public."
Former MGM executives Johnson and Roessler are producing alongside Jesse Singer. Former Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe and his senior adviser Peter O'Keefe will serve as consulting producers.
"This film is important because campaign-finance reform is important," McAuliffe said. " 'Harrison' will give audiences access to what will be a huge election-year issue."
Shooting is set to begin in the spring.
