New appointments and sales of titles including Toto and His Sisters.
Early at this year’s International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (Idfa), Austrian doc powerhouse Autlook has announced both a shake up of its structure and several new deals on its bulging Idfa slate. The details were confirmed to ScreenDaily by Autlook MD Salma Abdalla.
Abdalla announced the appointment of Liselot Verbrugge as sales manager and the promotion of Andrea Hock to head of sales.
Verbrugge will work from Amsterdam overseeing Australia/New Zealand, Asia & Oceania, Mena & Eastern Europe and will develop a strand of kids docs for Autlook.
Verbrugge comes to Autlook having been senior producer at Cinekid for Professionals until last month. Former M-d Peter Jager remains a partner in the company.

Autlook has arrived at Idfa with a dozen films screening either in official selection at the festival or available in the Docs For Sale.

This is both a fairly new award — barely a decade old — and one given for a body of work, rather than a specific piece of fiction, which means it has gone to pretty much exactly who we all would have predicted it would, in pretty much the same order. The award is given, officially, for “outstanding published works in science fiction and technical writings that inspire the human exploration of space” — Nasa propaganda, essentially.
This year’s winner is Stanley Schmidt, long-time editor of Analog, and, in best Heinlein fashion, the award itself is a whopping great medallion that Schmidt will be expected to wear as much as he can — or, at least, the...

Let's be honest – the notion of summer as an extended golden period of rest and re-stimulation really now only applies to the young, the retired, or those in the teaching professions. The rest of us slog on, hoping to catch the odd festival (or maybe just gig in a park), marking time until camping in Cornwall or fly-drive to France, where finally luxuriating in the latest Alan Hollinghurst will come a distant second to stopping the youngest weeing in the hotel pool.
