Welcome to Ground Zero for ‘Committed Cinema’ Italian style. Director Giuiano Montaldo filmed his dream project on location in Ireland and a bit in Boston, with top stars Gian Maria Volontè and Riccardo Cucciolla. In one of the highest-profile American ‘media’ trials ever the famed immigrants Sacco and Vanzetti were tried for a crime but convicted by politics: even the judge asserted they were guilty by definition. Montaldo shows how wrongly justice can be served without whitewashing the defendants. UK actors Cyril Cusack and Milo O’Shea up the performance level, and the Ennio Morricone / Joan Baez songs have kept the film alive.

Jonas Gutierrez has claimed that Newcastle United saw him as a “liability rather than an asset” at his employment tribunal in Birmingham.
The Argentinian is suing the North East club for a fee of around £2m for disability discrimination, having been diagnosed with testicular cancer in October 2013.
Gutierrez was released by Newcastle at the end of last season, with his last game being the relegation decider against West Ham United, where the cancer survivor’s goal helped the Magpies stay in the Premier League.
The winger underwent surgery in October 2013 to remove the tumour. In a witness statement presented to the tribunal, Gutierrez said that he was called into the then manager Alan Pardew’s office in December, where he was told that he did not feature in Newcastle’s future plans. He was then sent on loan to Norwich City for the second half of the season.

New reports suggest Shane McMahon tried and failed to buy Newcastle United football club.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes this week that the son of WWE owner Vince McMahon attempted to put together a consortium to take over the club, but ultimately a deal never materialised.
Rumours from a few years ago actually suggested Vince McMahon wanted to buy the club but at the time it appeared to be fanciful journalism, but may now have stemmed from a real situation where Shane McMahon wanted to buy out Mike Ashley. The deal wouldn’t have had any WWE connection, it would have been a Shane project.
Whether he’ll one day return with a bid for an English Premier League football side is unknown. He’s back with WWE for a short term run as a performer, but he’s in no way back in the wrestling business.

Steve McClaren told the Toon Army faithful to judge him after 10 games. They’ve long since been and gone – he only won one in that time – and he has since won only two of his last 10.
To put it simply, it’s not a good enough return for a manager who was allowed to spend more in the January transfer window than all the teams in Italy’s Serie A put together. Yes, players need time to gel – this time was afforded to the summer signings. Yes, we’ve had a lot of injuries – who hasn’t? (well, except high-flying Leicester). And yes, at times we’ve played well without getting anything from the game. But, enough is enough. There’s only 12 games left in the current Premier League season and if there’s one thing Mike Ashley cannot afford it’s another relegation.

Spanish striker Ayoze Perez has signed a new long-term contract with Newcastle United, expected to last until 2021.
Having signed for the Magpies in 2014 for just under €2 million, his work rate and ability to come up with important goals have made him a fans favourite at St James’ Park.
And the news of a new deal will come as a relief to many supporters, with fears that the 22-year-old may be lured away to Manchester United or Tottenham.
Perez has scored 12 goals in 56 appearances since joining, despite being played out of position on the left wing for most of his time on Tyneside. With new signing Seydou Doumbia arriving on loan, and Aleksander Mitrovic settling in after a turbulent start to his career at the club, the Spaniard will be hoping to develop a partnership with either of the two.

Newcastle United are all set to be involved in transfer deadline day for the first time in five years.
Not since the days of Andy Carroll’s shock £35 million move to Liverpool and the failed attempts to bring in Bryan Ruiz and Charles N’Zogbia as replacements have The Magpies threatened any sort of activity as the window begins to close.
With the threat of relegation looming large, and the money that will come with Premier League status next season severely at risk, Mike Ashley has sanctioned deals that have come close to the £30 million mark so far this window.
Some of the names that have been linked with a deadline day move to St James’ Park could see Newcastle’s spending rise past the £50 million they spent on the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba in the summer.

After the year Newcastle United have had on the pitch, you would have been forgiven for thinking that we’d be hard pressed to find five individual performances that were worth writing home about.
Despite Steve McClaren, his new backroom team, and over £50 million worth of signings heralding what we all thought was a new dawn at St James’ Park, Newcastle followed a worrying trend all year long that doesn’t look like leaving the squad any time soon.
There’s a losing mentality around NE1 at the moment. It’s solely in Mike Ashley’s hands whether that leaves or not. You don’t need me to tell you how he can do that…

Newcastle United have taken Swiss under 21 international Albian Ajeti on trial with a view to a permanent deal next summer.
The 18-year-old, who is Albanian by birth, has made 17 appearances for Fc Basel’s first team, scoring five goals. He’s been markedly more prolific for the Swiss side’s youth team however, notching 18 goals in 40 appearances.
The striker is out-of-contract in the summer and is spending some time on Tyneside with the club’s development team in order seal a move to United.
Ajeti recently hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons after breaking the news of former teammate Mohamed Elneny’s move to Arsenal. The trialist posted a picture on his official Facebook page with the caption “I’m happy for you Mohamed El Neney success in Arsenal.”
Neither club has confirmed the move.

Newcastle will make a £15 million+ move for in-form Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi in the January transfer window, reports The Sun.
Talks are said to already been underway with the French club over bringing the 22-year-old Belgium international to St. James’ Park.
Batshuayi has enjoyed a wonderful season in Ligue 1 with 11 goals in 18 starts. Joining from Standard Leige just 18 months ago, the forward has an impressive tally of averaging a goal in every other game. It’s a run of form that has convinced Geordie boss Steve McClaren that he’s the man Newcastle should spend big on to get the goals that would avoid relegation.
With that lethal combination of pace, strength and composure in front of goal, Batshuayi has overshadowed Marseille star man and former Newcastle target Alexandre Lacazette in the goals department and is getting all the attention from European clubs.

With talk in the media this weekend being about how decisions Newcastle United will make in the January transfer window ultimately being the key in deciding whether The Magpies stay up and avoid relegation this season… is an actual bigger decision for owner Mike Ashley than what players he should sign, being overshadowed?
Is in fact his biggest decision being whether Steve McClaren is the right man to steer his club to safety?
Ashley was unusually loyal to McClaren’s predecessor Alan Pardew. No matter how bad results got, no matter how loud the fan backlash was, no matter how close United looked on verge of oblivion with another relegation – he stood by his manager until that man eventually jumped ship for pastures new. Previous to that, Ashley wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger if things weren’t going well… Sam Allardyce famously lasting less...

When Newcastle United fans sing Auld Lang Syne on the stroke of midnight Thursday, they may well reflect back on 2015 as being one of the worst years in the modern history of Newcastle United.
Two utterly clueless teams fielded under respective head coaches John Carver and Steve McClaren (both of whom had different philosophies on how their teams should play that were both remarkably as inept as each other… but hey remember, they are world class and experienced coaches) have seen Newcastle end the 2014/15 season surviving relegation by the skin of their teeth and that same outcome for the 2015/16 season looking like the absolute best the club can hope for.
Rewind the clock just 12 months and Newcastle were sitting pretty in 10th and even talking up Europe as a possibility (Carver even having the gall to suggest Champions League was a realistic target during his introductory...

What seems to be the problem at Newcastle United? Last season there was a plethora of excuses to choose from and each would swerve attention away from the first team squad and instead splat the blame all over Mike Ashley’s perverse desire to see his staff at Sports Direct work harder than his under-performing number nine.
Ashley’s cavalier approach was a welcome distraction that deflected attention away from the ninety minutes on the football pitch and savagely etched its narrative into Newcastle fans’ minds. Tyneside became infected with commercial bile, sub plots and cries of revolution and left football – the one thing that once brought the whole city together – gasping for air as it slipped into John Carver-induced coma.
Ashley agreed to bring in some urgent medical attention but rather than shelling out for some premium overseas healthcare he turned to an unemployed Derbyshire...

Since Mike Ashley bought Sir John Hall’s 41.6% stake in Newcastle United back in 2007, the club has become a grim prospect for any Football Manager enthusiast to start their virtual life at. We all enjoy an FM challenge but every year Newcastle have a squad full of bang average players, no money and unrealistic expectations, making the gaming experience at St James’ Park extremely unpleasant.
This year’s game has the potential to be different. There is a renewed philosophy on Tyneside and no longer will you be set the awkward task of taking on a sombre Alan Pardew side or a perplexed John Carver outfit. Trying to restore and motivate Newcastle United over the past four year’s (and probably a lot longer) has been like asking a London Marathon finisher if he fancies going for a jog eight minutes after finishing the 26.2 miles.

Newcastle United’s crucial fixture against West Ham on the 24th May marked the end of John Carver’s Magpies career but it also signified a new era on Tyneside. Managerial changes are common in football but it’s rare that you have to reinstate supporters’ faith, confidence and enjoyment of watching the beautiful game over a three month period.
Has Mike Ashley done that? To an extent he probably has. The owner’s perturbing interview with Sky Sports prior to the fateful ‘Survival Sunday’ outlined Ashley’s normally-muted intentions and sent shivers through fans’ chests as the shrewd businessman declared he wasn’t going anywhere until Newcastle had won a trophy.
‘That’s that then’, most fans sulked as they prepared to die with Ashley at the helm. But the owner for once reacted to the criticisms that questioned the club’s philosophy and ambition.

Every Newcastle United game is interesting at the minute. A new manager, coaching team, tactical set-up and five new signings has provided fans with plenty of talking points as the Magpies attempt to find their winning formula under Steve McClaren.
Yesterday, Newcastle United faced Northampton Town in the Capital One Cup and once more the game represented more than what should be a routine win against League Two opposition – it signified hope. McClaren’s appointment this summer has been met with mixed feelings from the Geordie nation but despite a careless blip against Swansea City the former Derby boss has had a relatively positive start on Tyneside.
The Magpies sailed into the next round with a domineering 4-1 win over the Cobblers and McClaren’s intelligent team selection was rightfully rewarded. McClaren who won the League Cup with Middlesborough in 2004 represents someone who understands the importance...

Georginio Wijnadum has arrived at Newcastle United with a completely fresh mindset – and he insists that the Magpies must “have the confidence” to believe they can win “lots to trophies” going forward, starting with this season’s Capital One Cup.
The Magpies have not lifted silverware since the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, yet former Psv Eindhoven captain Wijnaldum – who skippered the Dutch club to the Eredivisie title in 2014-15 – insists the club’s mindset is now firmly focused on ending that trophy drought.
With owner Mike Ashley having invested close to £50 million on five new signings this summer, including 24-year-old Wijnaldum, there is a mood around Tyneside that suggests things are changing at the club.

All eyes will be on Steve McClaren when his team for the Capital One Cup second round game at home to Northampton Town is named.
Much has been made of how seriously Newcastle United will be taking the cup competitions this season following owner Mike Ashley’s comments before the West Ham United game on the last day of the previous Barclays Premier League campaign.
Ashley told of how he wasn’t going to sell the club until they had either won something or qualified for the Champions League under his stewardship – and with European football a seriously long way off for a side that could have still been relegated on the final day of last season – winning one of the domestic cups will be a far more achievable route.

Newcastle United may be without a victory from their opening three fixtures in the 2015-16 Barclays Premier League campaign, but optimism is beginning to spread around the North East that this Magpies side could achieve something in the near future.
Steve McClaren’s side registered their first clean sheet of the season in an impressive display as they drew 0-0 against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday, and a new style is currently being implemented by the Newcastle backroom staff.
Five players have also arrived this summer at a combined cost of almost £50 million, suggesting that Mike Ashley is finally starting to show a bit of ambition at the Magpies, but it is Tuesday night’s fixture with Northampton Town at St James’ Park (7.45pm kick-off) in the Capital One Cup Second Round that will really prove whether or not Newcastle are sticking to their owner’s end-of-season promises.

Ashley claimed that he would invest this summer, something he has undoubtedly done, but he also promised that the Magpies would finally take cup competitions seriously.

Newcastle United may have only survived in the Barclays Premier League on the final day of last season – yet they are competing with Europe’s elite clubs for spending this summer.
In fact, according to figures in The Chronicle, only three clubs on the continent – Real Madrid, AC Milan and Manchester City – have spent a higher net figure than the Magpies on recruitment this summer, backing up Mike Ashley’s end-of-season assurance that he would invest in the squad.
For a club that has been defined over the past half-decade and more by Ashley’s frugality, streamlining and seeming unwillingness to splash the cash, seeing Newcastle as fourth in the list of Europe’s spenders during this window with a reported £47.7 million outlay is astonishing.

Remy Cabella has completed his move from Newcastle United to Marseille as part of Florian Thauvin’s transfer to the Magpies.
Cabella’s season-long loan is part of the £14 million deal to bring Thauvin to Tyneside, and the French playmaker flew out to Marseille on Tuesday in order to undergo his medical before signing for the Ligue 1 outfit.
With an initial one-year loan agreed, Cabella will eventually move permanently for around £6.5 million if “certain conditions are met”.

The 25-year-old Corsican signed from Montpellier for a fee somewhere in the region of £12 million last summer to much fanfare having just scored 14 goals in 37 Ligue 1 games for the French side the previous season, yet he has departed St James’ Park after netting just once in 34 appearances in black and white.

Remy Cabella’s move to Marseille looks set to be a permanent deal and not a loan, with The Chronicle reporting that the playmaker will depart Newcastle United for £8 million.
That fee will also be deducted for the Magpies’ financial package for Florian Thauvin – which is believed to be somewhere in the region of £12 million-£14 million.
In conflicting reports, it has also been suggested that Cabella would head to Ligue 1 temporarily on a season-long loan deal with a view to a permanent move after. What’s clear, however, is that the Magpies are keen to use Cabella as a makeweight in any deal.

Remy Cabella is set to join Marseille on loan after the Ligue 1 side agreed a deal to take the playmaker to France, according to reports.
Get French Football claim that Rmc are reporting that Cabella will move to France on a season-long loan deal and that Marseille will have an option to sign the midfielder for just £5.7 million (€8 million) next summer.
It is likely that this move will help to initiate Florian Thauvin’s transfer to Tyneside, with Rmc also having reported on Tuesday morning that the Magpies had agreed a £12 million plus-Cabella-on-loan deal for the winger.
Newcastle & Marseille have reached an agreement now for the loan of Rémy Cabella with a €8m buy-out option, according to Rmc. More to come.

Steve Stone has criticised Mike Ashley’s running of Newcastle United.
The Magpies’ former assistant manager used Sky Sports’ Goals On Sunday to air his grievances about his time at St James’ Park, where he was part of Chris Hughton, Alan Pardew and John Carver’s back room staff.
Stone, a former England international during his playing days, lambasted the owner for selling United’s best players and not replacing them, he said: “When you’re selling the likes of Demba Ba & Cabaye and you’re not replacing them, the writing is on the wall. I’ve been told by the internet that I am hard to please and questioned about whether I was actually watching Newcastle United’s battling draw against Southampton. This stemmed from my ‘damning’ ratings of Chancel Mbemba and Vurnon Anita who each earned a a six out of 10 for their mismatched performances.
So, yes, while a lot of you seemed to be watching the return of ‘The Entertainers’, I’ll admit that I was on a different channel altogether. I watched a spirited performance that demonstrated a definite philosophy being followed and a rejuvenated energy pulsing through the starting XI, management and crowd. But in amongst that I saw huge defensive frailties, mis-placed passes and a Southampton side that will not play so poorly again all season.
Mbemba certainly looked an upgrade on what the Magpies already had and was excellent with the ball at his feet,...

Noise. Deafening noise. Hair-raising, deafening noise.
That’s exactly what had been missing from St James’ Park over the past 18 months as Newcastle United was dragged away from its traditional roots, careering uncontrollably from one disaster to another and destroying the relationship between the loyal, adoring supporters and their club.
Yet on Sunday a tsunami of noise that had built up gradually over a summer when optimism had slowly dripped back into the hearts and minds of the Toon faithful – courtesy of a slight tidal shift from the Magpies’ hierarchy – crashed down over the famous old stadium and made a welcome return to Tyneside.

Yohan Cabaye has blasted Mike Ashley’s “mentality” at Newcastle United – claiming it is the owner’s prudence which is preventing the club he “loved” from becoming “one of the best in the country”.
The 29-year-old Frenchman has been reunited with former Magpies boss Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace this summer after a £10 million transfer, with the Magpies reportedly deciding against bringing the midfielder back to Tyneside, a place where he was adored by Toon supporters.
Having left Newcastle to join Paris Saint-Germain in January 2014 in a £19 million deal, Cabaye won trophies but failed to play regular first-team football in the French capital and has now returned to the Barclays Premier League.

The feeling has already started – the one you get in the pit of your stomach. It rises up through you, and almost shakes you with excitement. And that can only mean one thing – the new football season is almost upon us.
Newcastle United kick-off their 2015-16 campaign by hosting Southampton at St James’ Park on Sunday – and then there will be at least another 37 Premier League games and two cup matches, but hopefully more, before the season is finished next May.
Steve McClaren and his coaching staff have arrived on Tyneside and have replaced the Alan Pardew-John Carver regime. Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba have all been recruited as well, so there seems to be a fresh feel at Newcastle United – particularly after Mike Ashley’s bold promises on the final day of last season.
But is that really the case?...

Steve McClaren already has a better relationship with the Newcastle United fans than Alan Pardew ever did.
The new head coach has said all the right things and showed on the pitch that he wants to do things more like ‘the Newcastle way’ after a number of bewildering years for Magpies’ fans.
Pardew, a man that was vilified for his gutless style of play and perceived lies during his four years as United’s boss, was put in a no win situation from the get-go by Mike Ashley as he was ‘hand-picked’ as the man to replace Chris Hughton, who didn’t deserve to be sacked as The Toon’s manager.

On the August 24th 2005, Newcastle United announced that they had agreed a record-breaking fee of £16.8 million to sign Michael Owen from Real Madrid.

This summer, Newcastle United have experienced a refreshing transformation. A new head coach, a complete overhaul of the backroom staff, two very decent signings and the removal of “the best coach in the Premier League” has resuscitated a gasping Geordie fanbase who were minutes away from switching off their football life support machine.
Mike Ashley’s latest big-money purchases – Aleksandar Mitrovic and Georginio Wijnaldum – have hinted at much-craved ambition from the man upstairs and a warmth (that has nothing to do with the weather) has swept across Tyneside. But, just like leaving the house on a sun-drenched Friday afternoon for six pints of watered-down lager with your pals, only to find you have managed to lose your wallet somewhere along your commute, there is a slight hitch among the positives.
The club has forgotten about defenders. Remember them? They’re the ones that don’t tend...

The Magpies are openly trying to reconnect with their bewildered fanbase, more and more of which are coming back on side as the number exciting players grows at St James’ Park. That, and because 24/7 is bringing a new sense of transparency that hasn’t been seen during Mike Ashley’s tenure at the club.

Portland Timbers 2 Youtube
Set-pieces have been a shambles both offensively and defensively for Newcastle United in recent years – and playing a back four with only one recognised centre-back in it certainly didn’t help matters against Portland Timbers 2.
Centre-backs are now the priority for the Magpies in the transfer window and, although Chancel Mbemba is set to arrive later this week – with his medical potentially pencilled in for Thursday – more need to follow as the Newcastle defence were breached four times in a 4-3 defeat to an Mls side’s reserves.
In picking Shane Ferguson and Lubo Satka in the heart of the defence, it was almost as if Steve was telling Mike Ashley that he needs defensive reinforcements and he needs them now! Let’s hope the owner listens…

Newcastle United are currently midway through an extremely important summer transfer window – and finally their first signing is through the door, with another very soon to follow. Having only just confirmed their Premier League status on the final day of last season, Mike Ashley came out and insisted he did not want a repeat of such a scenario during the 2015-16 campaign and would invest to ensure it would not happen again.
Steve McClaren was unveiled as the Magpies’ new boss last month but it took until a week gone Friday for Newcastle to announce their first signing of the summer – the £14.5 million acquisition of Georginio Wijnaldum from Psv Eindhoven. He is the Magpies’ third most-expensive transfer in history, their first incoming in 335 days – and the biggest outlay Mike Ashley has ever lavished has been on the attacking-midfielder. Anderlecht’s Aleksandar Mitrovic looks likely to follow...

Despite suffering their first defeat of the Steve McClaren reign Newcastle United will be handed a welcome boost on Wednesday – when new £14.5 million signing Georginio Wijnaldum joins his teammates for the first time in the USA.
The Magpies paid for a woeful opening 45 minutes as they succumbed 2-1 to Mexican side Club Atlas in Milwaukee in the early hours of Wednesday morning (BST), yet McClaren’s men will receive a much-needed shot in the arm when Dutchman Wijnaldum’s flight touches down.
Wijnaldum, who signed from Eredivisie champions Psv Eindhoven on Saturday, flew back to Holland over the weekend with his agent Humphry Nijman in order to get himself ready for the Magpies’ pre-season trip to the USA.

Georginio Wijnaldum has been warned against joining Newcastle United by a fellow Dutchman at Southampton – with Erwin Koeman claiming such a move would be bad for the midfielder because the Magpies are “structurally wrong” at the moment.
The brother of Saints boss Ronald Koeman, Dutchman Erwin is assistant coach at the Premier League club and he has advised Wijnaldum against opting for a move to Tyneside this summer.
Koeman managed Wijnaldum at Feyenoord when he was first coming through the youth ranks there and breaking into the first team, and he does not believe the 24-year-old Dutch international should leave Psv Eindhoven this summer.

Newcastle are reportedly close to agreeing a fee in the region of between £11 million and £14 million for Wijnaldum, although nothing has yet been finalised.

Newcastle United promised their supporters that “investment” would be made this transfer window – yet barely a month before the start of the 2015-16 season the Magpies have failed to recruit even one senior player.
Although the Magpies hierarchy insist they are taking their time in order to ensure they sign the right calibre of players, Newcastle – along with Crystal Palace – are one of only two Premier League sides yet to recruit a player this summer.
In fact, as of Tuesday July 7th, the other 18 Premier League clubs have signed 49 players between them at a combined cost of approximately £180 million.
Owen Humphreys/Pa Wire
Those 18 clubs have signed an average of close to three players each and have spent, on average, £10 million. The Magpies and Palace meanwhile have parted with £0 and brought in precisely nobody.
Players such as Charlie Austin, Georginio Wijnaldum, Joel Matip, Bas Dost and...

Newcastle United as we live and breath here in 2015 are a stepping stone.
Any player that comes through the door at St James’ Park today are sold a wonderful tale of how United can provide them with the suitable platform to showcase their talents which will have bigger Champions League clubs queueing up for their signature.
Unfortunately, Newcastle will be stuck in this mode until Mike Ashley and his cost effective ways of building a football team are long gone. Although, you would be forgiven for thinking that United could feasibly build something special on the pitch if any potential signings this summer take time to do a bit of research on certain predecessors who used St James’ Park as the proverbial Newcastle’s Got Talent stage…
They always say ‘the grass isn’t greener on the other side’, and in recent years a number of...

Newcastle Transfer News Round-Up: Every Player The Magpies Have Been Linked With From June 15th-21st
Scott Heavey/Empics Sport
Newcastle United have a massive summer ahead of them. Having only just confirmed their Premier League status on the final day of last season, they want to avoid a repeat of such a scenario during the 2015-16 campaign.
Now that Steve McClaren has been confirmed as the new head coach on a deal that could rise to as many as eight years, the former England manager will be keen to get his hands on Mike Ashley’s chequebook so his reign gets off to a flying start.
Players will depart St James’ Park in the coming weeks, but equally, at least seven are believed to be likely to arrive on Tyneside. Centre-backs, wingers and strikers are of the utmost priority, with at least two proven forwards wanted by the Magpies.
As ever, plenty of players have been linked with a move to St James’ Park with...

Dutch newspaper Ad claims that Newcastle United want to sign Wolfsburg forward Bas Dost this summer.
United are allegedly leading a pack of Premier League clubs, which includes Southampton, who want to sign the 26-year-old. It’s a signing that would certainly be a statement of intent by the club as they would be purchasing one of the leading marksmen in Europe last season. Dost managed to get on the scoresheet 20 times in 36 appearances.
The Magpies could have quite a strike force next season after it was revealed that the club are edging closer to making Queens Park Rangers’ striker Charlie Austin their first summer buy. The recent England call-up could cost in the region of £15 million while Dost could cost anywhere above £10 million.
Maybe Newcastle’s owner Mike Ashley Will dip his hands into his pockets this summer…

While all the talk has been about who new head coach Steve McClaren will bring into Newcastle United this summer, there are a couple of players who could be prised away from the club after impressive seasons last term.
The Sun are reporting that Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are all monitoring Ayoze Perez’s situation following an expectation-defying first season at St James’ Park.
The Spaniard, who signed from Spanish second division side Tenerife for around €2 million last summer, scored seven goals in 36 appearances in a Magpies side that only avoided relegation on the last day of the Premier League season.
His form was one of the few bright sparks from United’s campaign, which makes the revelations that the club planned to send the 21-year-old out on loan all the more baffling. They would have been relegated without him. No question.
