Exclusive: Paramount Players prevailed in an auction for Quinceanerx, an original pitch for a musical that Kevin Lima will direct with script by Alvaro Garcia Lecuona, who is writing What If for Billy Porter to direct at Orion.
Here’s the logline for a musical that sounds as original as it is inclusive. Xavier is gender fluid and uses they/them pronouns. In a world where everyone sees them as male, including their mom, a traditional celebration of femininity like quinceanera means everything to this 14 year old and a female cousin enlisted to help. Planning in secret, they hatch a roguish plot to switch places and give Xavier the celebration they deserve. The plan is complicated by fretting Latina mothers, teen crushes and the arrival of a famous father, and Xavier must decide who they want to be, whether or not the world is ready to accept that answer.

Exclusive: After nearly a decade of trying and failing to get to the altar on Honeymoon With Harry, New Line has hired Crazy, Stupid, Love scribe Dan Fogelman to redraft the comedy as a star vehicle for American Sniper‘s Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro. No deal with those two yet, but they are keen to work together again and this is a project they are both sweet on.
Fogelman is a high-priced writer and what he writes usually gets made, so the message here is that New Line is serious about moving forward. Cooper has long been intrigued with playing a formerly self-centered womanizing booze-hound who changed his ways when he met a girl and fell in love. Well, at least it's not official yet, right? According to Deadline Hollywood, Valentine's Day writer Katherine Fugate has just turned in a draft for a sequel called New Year's Eve. I know, the title creativity is astounding. Am I the only one who'd rather not associate otherwise fun holidays with mediocre films? (All right, that's not entirely fair. I haven't even seen Valentine's Day yet and am purely going by the trailer and my own dislike of the premise -- ensemble romantic comedy set on Valentine's Day! -- and many of the actors, star-studded though the cast may be.) The studio will even try to woo back some of the cast from Valentine's Day, with the New Year's Eve storyline focusing on singles and couples celebrating the ball drop in NYC. Now, whether or not New Year's Eve gets the go-ahead, depends largely upon box office returns when the film opens next weekend,...

Little wonder Warner Bros' New Line is in love with the Garry Marshall-directed Valentine’s Day because of its formula of cramming more than a dozen stars into a film and keeping the budget below $50 million. Now I'm told there's a sort-of-sequel underway. Valentine’s Day scribe Katherine Fugate has turned in a draft of New Year’s Eve, which Toby Emmerich and Richard Brener are reading this weekend, with Warner Bros bosses to follow shortly. I'm told that, during production, New Line execs Sam Brown and Michael Disco started brainstorming with producers Mike Karz, Wayne Allan Rice and Josie Rosen as well [...]...

The New Line/Warner Bros. romantic anthology comedy Valentine's Day hasn't even opened yet, but according to Deadline Hollywood , the film's producers Mike Karz, Wayne Allan Rice and Josie Rosen and studio execs Sam Brown and Michael Disco have been planning ahead for the film's potential success by having screenwriter Katherine Fugate write a thematic follow-up called New Year's Eve . The idea is that putting together such a star-studded cast at discounted rates makes it easier for a movie like Valentine's Day to be profitable and that "the holiday sensibilities are endless" in terms of other holidays that could get the same treatment. This one would presumably take place in the 24 hours between December 31st and January 1st with the producers hoping to enlist...

Josh Friedlander has sold his original comedy screenplay "One Night Stan" to Lionsgate. "Harold & Kumar" creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are set to direct.
"Stan" plays out a scenario about which many men fantasize on the cusp of marriage. When Stan learns his fiancee, Julie, has had more sexual partners than he, he gets her blessing for one night to play catch-up. Unfortunately, his plans for a sex buffet don't come together quite the way he had hoped.

Lionsgate has not strayed often into comedy territory and rarely has done well with it -- unless it has Tyler Perry's name in the title. Post-"Hangover," though, concept is king, especially if it offers a big canvas for raunchy,...

Dimension Films has signed writer Anya Kochoff to a two-picture deal worth more than $1 million. Kochoff is the writer of Monster-in-Law, starring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda, which is being directed by Robert Luketic for New Line Cinema. The second, Girls Gone Wild, is a comedy about a thirtysomething woman who, after a terrible breakup with her boyfriend, decides to spend her annual vacation with her two best friends somewhere unexpected. Josie Rosen will produce the projects along with Kochoff. "Anya is a terrific new writer whose stories tap into the young, contemporary life experiences and issues of women, and we are thrilled to be working with her," Dimension topper Bob Weinstein said in a statement. Dimension co-presidents Andrew Rona and Brad Weston will oversee the project for the studio. Kochoff is repped by Endeavor and attorney Karl Austen of Hirsch, Jackoway, Tyerman, Wertheimer, Austen, Mandelbaum & Morris.

Rosen most recently executive produced the Ashton Kutcher comedy Just Married. Before that, she was senior vp at 20th Century Fox on such projects as Dude, Where's My Car? and From Hell. Rosen also worked at Gary Foster's Horseshoe Bay Prods. Isaacson is a 10-year Universal Studios veteran who worked on such films as 12 Monkeys and Field of Dreams. Also at Universal, he acquired Death Becomes Her and collaborated with Imagine Entertainment on The Nutty Professor and Liar Liar. He later participated in production deals at both Universal and DreamWorks. Both executives report to Farrell and Paura in their production offices on the Disney lot. Farrell and Paura formed FP Ventures in January after having been partners at NRG for several years.
