When Madonna first met Seymour Stein back in the Eighties, it was under unusual circumstances. Normally, when a record label executive expresses interest in a budding, early-career artist, meetings about their future and potential partnership in the industry take place in glossy high-rise buildings. But an eager 24-year-old Madonna met the Sire Records founder, who died Sunday at age 80, while he was propped up in a hospital bed.
Madonna recalled their first meeting in a moving tribute post shared one day after Stein’s death.

When Madonna orders you to drop trou, you drop trou, Justin Timberlake admitted while inducting the pop diva into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Monday night in New York. Madonna, 49, offered the "SexyBack" singer, 27, a B-12 shot – and, apparently, not in the arm – last year while they were working on her new album, Hard Candy, he explained to the audience inside the Waldorf-Astoria ballroom. He thought she was going to call a doctor for the injection, but instead, "She proceeds to pull a Ziploc bag of B-12 syringes out [of her purse] and says, 'Drop 'em.' "I don't know what you say to that,...

Independent DVD distributor Echo Bridge Home Entertainment has promoted two insiders, former CFO Nathan Hart and head of operations Mike Newcomb, to serve as co-presidents.
The two replace Tim Clott, the former Paramount Home Video and Lyrick Studios executive who took the helm of Echo Bridge in summer 2005. Clott left to pursue other opportunities.
"Both Nate and Mike are seasoned home entertainment executives whose ideal combination of management skills will maximize our substantial new financial position, providing a valuable contribution to the future growth of our business," said Michael Rosenblatt, chairman, president and CEO of parent company Echo Bridge Entertainment.
The promotions come as Echo Bridge is on an aggressive campaign to acquire new product, a push fueled by a recently announced corporate credit agreement with JPMorgan. The acquisitions plan is targeting TV shows, feature films and entire libraries.
Echo Bridge also intends to mine its 3,500-title catalog, with plans to launch a Blu-ray Disc line in April.

Fledgling Los Angeles-based sales and financing outfit Echo Bridge Entertainment, headed by industry veterans Lucie Salhany, Michael Rosenblatt, Michael Alexander and Doug Hamilton, said Wednesday at the American Film Market that it has sealed a deal with Showtime Networks to handle international sales of selected Showtime Independent Films projects. The wide-ranging deal between the two companies also will see Showtime signing up to license handpicked titles from Echo Bridge's library. Through the pact, Echo Bridge plans to acquire seven films produced under the SIF banner for worldwide distribution outside the United States and Canada. SIF is the network's nascent banner through which low-budget theatrical projects are created by Showtime. Showtime will aim to license an undisclosed number of movies over the next four years from Echo Bridge's film library to run across Showtime networks.
