- Served in the Marine Corps from 1942 through the end of World War II, attaining the rank of Captain and serving as a general's aide.

Sardi's was closed in 1990 after it went bankrupt, but Sardi reopened the landmark eatery in 1991 and was successful in revitalizing the business before retiring in 1997. His partner Max Klimavicius took over the management at that time and Sardi's continues into 2017.
