The true life friendship duo of Dillon Brown and Michael Rock is never more present than what the two bring to their on-screen “bromance” in Tahoe Joe. Brown and Rock met while Brown was working on a horror film in 2021 and the two hit off immediately. They love making found footage style horror films together, but more importantly, have learned that casting veterans and first-responders who suffer from Ptsd (something Rock battles routinely from his time as a Green Beret during the Iraq war and in his current position as an investigator tackling child sex crimes and eliminating child predators for a three-letter agency.) have greatly benefited from acting as a form of therapy. Because of this, the two have cast veterans and first responders in favor of traditional actors in most of their films.

From its autumnal aesthetic to its haunted history, Massachusetts is always a great place to spend the Halloween season, but horror fans were particularly spoiled this year. In addition to the usual festivities in Salem and repertory programming at Boston theaters, we had no less than four horror conventions throughout the state in the span of two months: Silver Scream Con, Terror Con, MonstahXpo, and Hometown Haunts & Hops.
Many convention memories are made in hotel bars, so why not set one in a brewery? The inaugural Hometown Haunts & Hops took place at Mayflower Brewing in Plymouth on October 28, providing a fun environment on the unseasonably warm Saturday before Halloween. Curated by America’s Hometown Horror podcast and Inebri-Art, both based in Plymouth, the event is poised to become an annual occurrence.
Lively but low-key, Hometown Haunts & Hops is a refreshingly intimate alternative to the often overwhelming convention experience. There were no shortage of activities,...

105ive Films president Louie La Vella has inked a co-production deal with Gray Sky Pictures and happy to announce their collaboration to produce a found footage feature titled “The Woodmen.” The film is scheduled to begin shooting in June in Georgia.
Gray Sky Pictures, the production company responsible for “Mothman” (2022), is partnering with 105ive for this project. Joshua Brucker will serve as the writer and director of “The Woodmen.”
This partnership comes after 105ive’s first feature, “Invited,” which was shot in January and is planned for release later this year.
Gray Sky Pictures has enlisted Tyler Horner, known for his work on “The House Among The Trees,” as the cinematographer for “The Woodmen.”
The film will include two actresses from the horror franchise, Scream, Nancy Anne Ridder, and Leonora Scelfo, in its cast. Additionally, Lc Holt, known for his roles in “Watchdog,” “VHS 2,” and “You’Re Next,” will also be joining the cast.

Nobody did better with horror franchises than Wes Craven, who reinvigorated the genre in this relentlessly bloody thriller. Its self-referential gimmick should have been exploited decades before: what if the teenagers in movies were like real teenagers that watch horror movies. . . and that must rely on their movie knowledge when confronted with R-rated carnage? 25 years later the show holds up well, at least until the final revelations. Kevin Williamson’s screenplay and Mark Irwin’s camerawork make Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and Rose McGowan the most attractive and intelligent horror scream queens since Peggy Cummins tried to kick some sense into Dana Andrews.
