While the zombie Bub might be the first character you think of when George A. Romero's Day of the Dead comes to mind, Joseph Pilato's performance in the film is an all-timer, making Captain Henry Rhodes just as memorable as his living dead counterpart, and we're sad to share the news that the actor has passed away at the age of 70.
Multiple sources, including Bloody Disgusting (via a Facebook post by Pilato's friend Marty Schiff), have reported the news of Pilato's passing. According to the Facebook post by Schiff, Pilato "passed away quietly in his sleep."
A frequent collaborator with George A. Romero, Pilato appeared in the legendary director's Dawn of the Dead, Knightriders, and Day of the Dead. It was his role as Captain Henry Rhodes in the lattermost film that cemented his place in horror immortality. His performance as the increasingly deranged and violent Captain Rhodes...

Scream Factory’s new Collector's Edition Blu-ray of the 1982 horror anthology Creepshow might just be the release of the year. Between an amazing new 4K restoration, a host of new special features, and even the very cool new cover art and packaging, the movie is finally receiving the love and care it has deserved for more than 35 years. This is Creepshow as it should be.
Directed by the late, great George A. Romero and written by the equally great Stephen King, Creepshow remains, as far as this writer is concerned, the best horror anthology ever made. It tells five stories in the grand tradition of 1950s EC comics, in which the dead are constantly rising up to get revenge and the guilty receive their just desserts. The tagline from its original theatrical release, “The most fun you’ll ever have getting scared,” represents one of the only times in horror...

Details are emerging for the release of Deadtime Stories 2. This is the second horror anthology to be narrated by the Master of Horror himself, George A. Romero. This time around, Romero has three tales of the macabre which range from fatal cave climbing to haunting students and even to a disease causing space dust. Each short is about thirty minutes long, with a cumulative runtime of 141 mins'. The titles of the shorts are: "The Gorge," "On Sabbath Hill," and "Dust." Enjoy the trailer for Deadtime Stories 2, as Romero tells viewers to "be very afraid!"
Yet, the original Deadtime Stories (2009) has been called "sub-par" (DVD Talk) and "pointless" (DVD Sleuth). As well, Romero's performance in the first series has been called "disjointed." Also, in the latest trailer for Deadtime Stories 2, Romero seems subdued and more ready to take a nap rather than scare audiences (we still love you George). Finally,...

Well, the first volume was a snooze, and I can’t imagine volume 2 will be any different. With a date of September 20th for it to hit the shelves, Romero’s anthology showcases 3 different tales of terror written by John Monahan (Lone Star) and directed by Michael Fischa, Matt Walsh and Marty Schiff. Read more after the break for plot summaries, artwork and a trailer for George A. Romero, Presents Deadtime Stories Vol. 2.
Volume 1 went pretty much unnoticed and you can see why after watching it. Here is hoping that volume 2 raises the bar. The three synopsis’ below don’t lead much to the imagination and the tales don’t seem all that inspired, but this direct to DVD anthology will at least get a once over by the true proud Romero fans that flock to anything with his name on it. Here they are.

We're not gonna beat around the bush here ... Deadtime Stories Volume 1 was pretty terrible. Hopefully the gang behind this truly good anthology premise can get their act together and deliver with its sequel.
