- Distinguished-looking character actor, on stage from 1900. Primarily active in films by the 1920's, specialising in playing professional men: doctors, bankers, consuls, industrialists, barristers, and the like.
- His activity in movies dropped off during wartime.
- From 1925 on he concentrated again on the theater. Only in the 30's he appeared again in front of the camera and impersonated impressive support roles in many well-known movies.
- The film industry offered him only seldom rewarding work. In the new GDR he took part in the movies "Mathilde Möhring" (1950) and in the fairy-tale movies "Rumpelstilzchen" (1955) and "Der gestiefelte Kater" (1955).
