Nominations for “The 76th Annual Writers Guild Awards” were announced on Wednesday, with “Days of our Lives” and “General Hospital” competing in the Daytime Drama category. Other shows receiving nominations in various categories include “The Crown,” “Abbott Elementary,” “The Last of Us” and “Succession.” Among films, “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer” and “Killers of the Flower Moon” are looking to take home their respective trophies.
This year, “Days of our Lives” is competing against “General Hospital” after receiving a de facto win in 2023 due to no other show being nominated, and marking the show’s third consecutive win. Ron Carlivati leads the show’s writing team.
At “General Hospital,” outgoing writers Dan O’Connor and Chris Van Etten are receiving their final nominations as the show’s head writers. The two were let go in January after a shakeup behind the scenes.

And here we are, the last big hurrah before the granddaddy of the awards season, the Academy Awards. As expected, "Zero Dark Thirty" won Original Screenplay but the most surprising winner was "Argo," beating the writing frontrunner, "Lincoln" by Tony Kushner. So more "Argo" power! It's definitely the film to beat this Oscars, and I'm happy that it's my No. 1 film of 2012!

The guild's nominating committee selected three incumbent board members to run for the eight open seats. They are Ron Bass, Lisa Seidman and Dan Wilcox. The other board candidates are Aaron Mendelsohn, David Weiss, Alex Sokoloff, Thomas Cook, Chris Nee, Lynn Roth, John Bowman, Valerie Woods, Larry Wilmore, David Garrett, Ted Elliot, Christopher Keyser, Garner Simmons, Bernard Lechowick and Craig Mazin. The election will take place Sept. 20 in conjunction with WGA West's annual membership meeting.
