The darkly-comic movie Ten Tricks is a real head-scratcher for several reasons. The title refers to two kinds of tricks – the bordello business kind and the type in a magician’s act – woven together in a sequence of overlapping snippets. Then, casting against type, the madame of the former is played by the chronically (in a good way) wholesome Lea Thompson, who could still play a cute ingenue at age 60. And it’s shot in black-and-white with a mostly unknown cast (some of whom play multiple roles) by first-time writer/director Richard Pagano, apparently on a budget so limited that “craft services” probably meant everyone brown-bagging it. The script mixes comic elements with a lot of sadness and frustration surrounding the assortment of sexual transactions we see.

Morris County, the feature length anthology film directed by Matthew Garrett is not easy to categorize - and that is one of its strengths. It's a drama - but the stories venture into such dark, bitter, raw, and rattling territory, the film is custom built more for horror fans than fans of conventional dramas. At the same time, horror fans who gravitate toward a typical mainstream flavor of the genre may find Morris County a little too daring, somber, and unflinching for their tastes. What I admire most about the film is that it refuses to use the cookie cutter. Instead, writer/director Garrett let the film evolve into its own unique beast - and for that, at the very least, Morris County deserves your attention.
Given the nonconforming nature of this film, it's easy to see why finding appropriate distribution for Morris County (which has been complete for some...

There's a truck jacking involving a shooting and there's blood found on a container. Stella (Melina Kanakaredes) can't wait to get her jokes in, "That's gonna need a bit more than a bag and tag." They call Hawkes (Hill Harper) out of the morgue once more and Mac (Gary Sinise) suggests he brings a spatula, which he does. Part of the Db has been found. Kevin Harrington, (Mark Sheppard) the foreman says they can't shut the port down. Tod was within the past 4 hours. Mac tracks the databases and the computer shows where the container was during the last 12 hours. The rest of the Db is found under another container. The Me is in charge of the body. So obvious who the killer is here cos he's in charge and so knows all the ins and outs of the port and what to hide where.. A dead woman is found...
