Six years passed without a new film from director Uwe Boll, a filmmaker some would describe as infamous, while others would say he’s legendary. Then last year he made Hanau (Deutschland im Winter – Part 1), about a real-life mass murderer. Now he’s back with the police drama First Shift, and while the movie isn’t expected to be released until sometime in 2024, a trailer has already arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.
Boll wrote, directed, and produced First Shift, which is described as being a gripping police drama with the spirit of a classic road movie, taking us on a soul-stirring journey through the vibrant streets of New York City into the depths of our own reality and the innermost corners of our souls. Immersing viewers in a high-octane adventure delving into the lives of dedicated law enforcement officers.

The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 7
The Blacklist’s seventh installment of its final season exposes Wujing’s (Chin Han) Plan B. Though the Freelancer, Alban Veseli (Daniel Sauli) found a place under Wujing’s wing in this season’s premiere episode, “The Night Owl,” the former blacklister went to the backburner while Wujing focused on breaking Dr. Laken Perillos (Laverne Cox) out of prison in order to bring Dembe Zuma (Hisham Tawfiq) under her power and squeeze information about the Task Force from him.
While it may strike as odd planning on Wujing’s part, perhaps the gaffe of Dr. Perillos is a sign that Wujing isn’t a sociopath. He tries first to break just one man, Dembe, in his quest for information before he resorts to the Freelancer’s services that results in 50+ victims killed or missing in the ferry attack that kicks...

Warning: The following contains spoilers to tonight’s series finale of HBO’s The Deuce.
In the end of the go-go 1970s-80s boogie of New York’s Times Square underbelly, and the whole rush of sex, cocaine and switchblades, George Pelecanos and David Simon’s HBO series about the rise and fall of the big screen X-rated film industry, The Deuce, didn’t end so much with a bang tonight, but rather, pillow talk.
The order from Mayor Koch’s office was bestowed: Lock up the bath houses and sex parlors, a move which ultimately paved the way for the Rudy Giuliani mid 1990s commercial high-end overhaul of Times Square and other Manhattan neighborhoods.
The jaw-dropping moments of the final season, set seven years after season 2 in 1985, had already occurred in previous episodes, specifically the murder of James Franco’s twin bad boy, Frankie, and the tragic suicide of...

HBO released the trailer for its eight-episode third and final season of David Simon’s porn drama, “The Deuce” on Thursday.
Welcome to 1985. Here’s what’s going down this decade:
Season 3 of “The Deuce” brings us into the world of 1985, just as VHS overtakes film as the primary medium for porn production and distribution. The lure of the California sunshine, the city’s aggressive takeover of commercial sex properties in Times Square and the devastating impact of the AIDS epidemic mark the end of an era. With the party of the 1970s winding down, 42nd Street has deteriorated into a hive of uncontrolled violent crime and seedy video stores, making urban renewal seem more unlikely than ever before. Following the interconnected lives of Times Square’s barkeeps, prostitutes, pimps, police, mobsters, porn actors and producers, the eight-episode third season of “The Deuce” brings the series’ arc to a dramatic conclusion.

HBO has set Sept. 9 as the premiere date for the third and final season of The Deuce, the drama series starring James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal as porn-industry pioneers.
The return date was tweeted by HBO along with an image of a VHS tape, signaling the series’ leap in time from the previous 1970s setting to the 1980s.
Created by George Pelecanos and David Simon, The Deuce chronicles the establishment of the porn industry in the decidedly pre-Disney Times Square of the early 1970s through legalization, the rise of HIV, the cocaine epidemic and the big business of the mid-1980s, with the changing real estate market about to bring the deadly party to a close.
Franco plays twins Vincent, who as season 2 ended seemed to be transitioning from dive bar owner to budding porn mogul, and hapless, always-in-debt Frankie. Gyllenhaal plays Candy, the former porn actress turned producer and director.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Deuce” Season 1 finale, Episode 8, “My Name is Ruby.”]
A lot has changed for Vincent Martino since the start of Season 1.
The “better” of two twins played by James Franco, Vincent began his eight-episode journey by getting mugged. He was working two jobs on both sides of the river, seven nights a week, all to provide a lower-middle class lifestyle for his wife, Andrea (Zoe Kazan), and two kids. Things weren’t great, and it seemed like they were only about to get worse.
But after Vincent graciously agreed to pay off his his brother’s gambling bills, everything changed. Frankie’s debt turned into Vincent’s gain, as the mobsters he paid learned to appreciate his work ethic and ingenuity. He got his own bar in Manhattan, a cut of the profits from a local brothel that his brother-in-law is running, and he met his new girlfriend, Abby (Margarita Levieva), whom — after walking out on his cheating wife...

The formula almost always concerns some type of personal and professional redemption and Ben Younger‘s Bleed for This is no exception. Being a true telling of Vinny Pazienza’s (Miles Teller) arduous journey back into the ring after a near-fatal car crash severed his neck, however, means it possesses some substance beyond the old “washed up” bid for revenge against the press or a former coach/manager who’s now inexplicably repping the opponent. Some of that is present too, but it takes a backseat to watching a tenacious young man beat the odds to prove mankind’s resilience rather than facilitate the usual melodramatic quest of honoring a fridged family member.
Our introduction to Paz is by watching him get beat for the third time in a row...

Described as a “narrative set in the Times Square demimonde of the 1970s and 1980s,” The Deuce follows the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York, exploring the rough-and-tumble world that existed in midtown Manhattan “until the rise of HIV, the violence of the cocaine epidemic and the renewed real estate market all ended the bawdy turbulence.

Alter Egos Trailer. Jordan Galland‘s Alter Egos (2012) teaser trailer stars Kris Lemche, Brooke Nevin, Joey Kern, and Danny Masterson. Alter Egos’ plot synopsis: “At a time when superheroes have lost government funding and public support, a superhero meets a girl who can help him overcome his own emotional crisis.”
This film reminds me of Vs but without the edge. I can’t believe the main hero’s name is Fridge. That is almost as stupid as Splash Down from The Incredibles.
My favorite part of the Alter Egos teaser trailer:
You’ve got some nerve. Breaking up with me in an email. Who do you think you are? Batman?
So funny. His girlfriend was cheating on him with himself…his alter ego.
Alter Egos also stars Christine Evangelista, John Ventimiglia, Adam LeFevre, Kristina Klebe, Sean Lennon, Geneva Carr, Marina Squerciati, Carmen Goodine, Daniel Sauli, and Carlos Velazquez.

Back in late June 2007 at Frameline31, one of my favorite films was Sam Zalutsky’s first feature You Belong To Me, a suspenseful Polanski-style thriller with dark Hitchcockian overtones. As Pam Grady wrote for the Frameline program, this tale of gay obsession morphed into something quite unexpected as the protagonist Jeffrey (Daniel Sauli)—smitten with a one-night stand—stalks the fellow to his apartment building and rents a vacant unit in the building in hopes of getting closer to him. That’s creepy enough in itself; but, it soon becomes apparent that “the rot eating at his hardwood floors is symbolic of an evil infecting the entire address.” With classic indirection, the film starts off with one story and skillfully warps into another.
At Variety, Dennis Harvey noted that this “nifty little suspenser bordering on horror” put “a gay spin on creepy-apartment-building-entrapment scenarios a la Polanski’s The Tenant and Rosemary’s Baby,...
