Vaughn Shafer
- Stunts
Vaughn Shafer, daredevil at heart, stuntman by trade, artist and entertainer by birth. Vaughn was born just outside Edinburgh, IN where there wasn't much to do besides, hunt, trap, and seek thrills. He started skate boarding as a pre teen and spent much of his time creating new tricks and honing his craft. Vaughn toured all over the United States during the early to mid 80's. In the late 80' and early 90's, Vaughn set his sights on a combination speed records, skating, and thrill when he built his first motorized skateboard to set a speed record for fastest skateboard. At the same time he was working as a stunt man in Hollywood after working at a Wild West town in their Cowboy stunt show. Vaughn wanted to create a new over the top sport before "extreme sports" was ever a catch phrase, skate board drag racing. Hitting the road for entire drag racing seasons putting on exhibition shows at NHRA and Super Chevy Show events. Yet, there were no takers to accept his challenge to race at nearly 100 mph mere inches from the ground with only a leather racing suit, guards, and a really great helmet. Vaughn hung up his suit for some time to perfect his art of blacksmithing which is his "day job" these days. As craftsman and artist, he is more resembling of a sculptor that works in metal making beautiful items such as hand made chandeliers, or rustic hand railing that may look and feel as if it was a vine out of a forest. He has built show winning Motorcycles such as his Sabertooth Bike that resembles the skeletal remains of a prehistoric cat wrapped around a V twin, and a pair of tires chopper style. Vaughn may have been busy with family and building a reputation on his art, but he was still being his thrill seeking self by base jumping, white water rafting, doing free falls, or simply having his yearly sledding party that starts at an elevation of 8,600 ft above seal level and runs to the valley below with dozens of others making the run. Vaughn never gave up his dream of sanctioned skate board racing, or his love of thrilling the crowd. At the age most are buying skateboards as presents, Vaughn has built his 4th generation drag board sporting a KMT engine designed for a dirt bike. Vaughn has recently beaten his own record during testing and will be setting the bar even higher this summer as he intends to blow the doors off his old record at NHRA events and air shows across the US.
