Exclusive: Chris Shaw has left the building. The Oscar-nominated British news executive is calling it quits after an on-off love affair with news producer ITN that has spanned 40 years, affording him a front-row seat to the biggest stories of his generation. Semi-retirement beckons, but not before a valedictory interview.
So is this Shaw unleashed? Has he, as Andrew Marr memorably put it when he left the BBC, found his voice after being constrained by ITN’s duty to impartiality? Not quite. It will take more than a jolly phone interview to break the habit of a career. But there is little doubt that he is looser-lipped on his final day at the office — and that’s good news because few are better placed than Shaw to reflect on the state of news in the UK.
His decorated résumé includes helping Rupert Murdoch launch Sky News in 1989 and, nearly a decade later,...

From live blogs on 'Occupy' protests to footage of Syrian atrocities on YouTube, filmmakers now have access to a wealth of raw material – but can it all be trusted?
In a digital world with a whole host of different ways to communicate a factual message it is increasingly hard to judge the value of amateur eyewitness film shot on a mobile phone and posted on the internet against a considered, observational documentary broadcast on a traditional television channel.
From the Occupy New York City bloggers, such as Tim Pool who has broadcast hours and hours of live reports from Zucotti Park in the city, to YouTube videos of citizens under fire from government forces in Syria – these incidents and more are changing the landscape of documentary filmmaking. This has been made possible by the technology they use, the distribution platforms that are now available and the passion of ordinary men...

Maybe not all the tracks aren’t as hard hitting or heavy as the commanding album opener, but the idea’s the same: grab the audience with Matthew Caws’ great melodies and producer Chris Shaw’s clean production, but hold their interest with huge guitars and an air-tight rhythm section made up of bassist Daniel Lorca and drummer Ira Elliot.

Love him or hate him, one thing is for sure: Director David DeCoteau is a legend in the horror entertainment field. That can't be denied. He's the man responsible for 80's camp classics such as Nightmare Sisters and Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama. Sorority Babes In The Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama gathered a once in a lifetime B movie cast including Linnea Quigley (The Return of the Living Dead), Brinke Stevens (Grandma's House), Michelle Bauer (Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers), Robin Stille (The Slumber Party Massacre), Hal Havins (Night of the Demons), and George 'Buck' Flower (They Live). While Sorority Babes was one of the most downright fun horror films of the 80's, another element stood out about the film, one that would go on to shape and define David DeCoteau's career. See, David DeCoteau cast this complete unknown named Andras Jones in the lead role. Right off the bat, you could...

London -- Channel 5 continued its executive clear-out Tuesday with the departure of long-time director of children's programming Nick Wilson and head of news Chris Shaw, who has been with the channel since its launch in 1997.
The departures are part of a voluntary redundancy program which will eventually see around 25% of the staff leave the station under new owner Richard Desmond, whose publishing empire Northern & Shell acquired the station in July.
Seven of Channel 5's nine senior directors were given notice within weeks of Desmond's acquisition, while chief executive and chairman Dawn Airey will leave later this month for a post at European broadcaster Rtl Group, which sold the loss-making channel.

Ian Wright has accused his former Live From Studio Five boss Chris Shaw of being "power mad". Speaking to Absolute Radio, the ex-footballer revealed that "arguments" have pervaded the atmosphere at the show's studios since the introduction of the new half-hour format. He said: "It's just been arguments for the last couple of weeks, and I said to the people up there 'I'm not feeling good about the future with Chris Shaw now'." Wright, 46, claimed that Shaw was the main reason his contract was not renewed, saying: "He just turned kind of like power mad, you know, and we came to the decision yesterday that its not going to go any further.
