Jose-Maria Siles is a Spanish journalist, expert on European Affairs
and foreign correspondent for 25 years in Europe, Africa and America.
The was TVE Bureau chief in Bonn, Rabat, Berlin, New York, Washington DC and Brussels.
In 1984, he began to work as a reporter for TVE, the National TV of Spain. Later, he started as a foreign correspondent in Bonn, where he covered the last years of a still divided Germany under the cold war. In the night of November, 9 1989, he became the first Spanish journalist to report live from the Checkpoint Charlie on the fall of the Berlin Wall.
With Germany being reunified, he was sent to inaugurate a new TVE office in Morocco. In 1992, Siles was a War Correspondent in Bosnian where he witnessed the siege of Sarajevo and covered the reunification of the city after the Dayton Agreement.
He became later director of the Andalusian Public Television channel. After returning to TVE in 1996, he was dispatched to Berlin to cover the reunified Germany and the Central and Eastern European countries.
New York Bureau chief since 1999, he created a new TVE office in Washington DC before returning to Europe as Brussels Chief correspondent, covering the enlargement of the European Union and NATO.
