Madrid, Aug 7 (Ians) The Spanish La Liga kicks off a new season under its fresh official name this weekend. Yet, the ‘new’ Liga EA Sports is expected to witness the same teams vying for the title, with Fc Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid emerging as the principal contenders.
It, however, marks the dawn of a different era for the reigning champions, Fc Barcelona. With seasoned players Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets exiting the club during the summer, the addition of Ilkay Gundogan, Oriol Romeu, and Inigo Martinez should ably fill the void.
Ousmane Dembele’s surprising move to Paris Saint Germain raised eyebrows, and unless Barca secure another signing or Ansu Fati returns to form, their attacking strength, where Robert Lewandowski is about to turn 35, might falter.

Madrid (Spain), July 21 (Ians) Real Sociedad’s veteran attacking midfielder David Silva is in danger of missing the new season and perhaps seeing his long career come to an end after suffering a serious knee injury in training.
Silva suffered a possible torn cruciate ligament in his left knee and will undergo tests to discover the extent of his injury, reports news agency Xinhua.
“David Silva had to leave yesterday’s [Wednesday] training session due to problems in his left knee. In the images that have been provided, we have seen an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament. At the moment, we are pending a valuation by a specialist, which will happen next week,” reported the Real Sociedad website.
The 37-year-old extended his contract with the San Sebastian side at the end of last season, but cruciate knee ligament injuries usually need between six and nine months of recovery time.

Madrid, May 27 (Ians) In an attempt to maintain fair competition, all matches from the penultimate round of games in La Liga will kick off simultaneously on Sunday evening, as teams vie for qualification into European tournaments and to avoid relegation.
Real Sociedad, just one win away from cementing their place in next season’s Champions League, face a formidable challenge visiting Atletico Madrid without David Silva, who is sidelined with a calf injury. Atletico, after surrendering a 3-0 lead to Espanyol in midweek, are vying for second place in the league and unlikely to show mercy, reports Xinhua.
Villarreal, needing victories in their remaining games and Real Sociedad’s losses to finish fourth, are visiting a lackadaisical Rayo Vallecano under the leadership of in-form Nicolas Jackson.
Betis could secure their Europa League spot with just a draw with Girona. However, Girona are still within reach of seventh place and a...

Madrid, May 22 (Ians) The Spanish La Liga has no time for a pause as this week sees the 36th round of matches, with plenty still to play for and three games on Tuesday night.
Real Sociedad will be first into action with a home game against an Almeria side that needs one win to assure its top-flight survival for another season.
Their win in Camp Nou against Fc Barcelona on Saturday leaves Real Sociedad fourth in the table, five points clear of fifth place Villarreal, and another three points would leave them on the verge of assuring a Champions League place.
David Silva is a doubt for Real Sociedad with a muscle problem, while Almeria striker Lazaro Vinicius should have recovered from fatigue after scoring a hat-trick in his side’s vital 3-0 win at home to Mallorca on Saturday.

Madrid, May 15 (Ians) Fc Barcelona clinched the La Liga title with four games left this season, thanks to a 4-2 win away against local rivals Espanyol on Sunday night.
Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring after just 10 minutes, and Alejandro Balde doubled the lead with a far-post volley nine minutes later before Lewandowski’s second of the match made it 3-0 before halftime, reports Xinhua.
Jules Kounde headed home Barca’s fourth eight minutes into the second half, and although Javi Puado pulled a goal back for Espanyol in the 73rd minute and Joselu netted a second in injury time, it was too little too late for Espanyol, who remain second from bottom of the table.
The result leaves Xavi Hernandez’s side with 84 points from 34 matches: a 14-point lead over second-place Real Madrid and 16 points more than Atletico Madrid in third.

Madrid, May 14 (Ians) Fc Barcelona will be La Liga champions on Sunday night if they win away to local rivals Espanyol although Real Madrid beat Getafe 1-0 on Saturday night.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti rang the changes ahead of his side’s Champions League semifinal return leg away to Manchester City next week, with Thibaut Courtois, Fede Valverde, Eder Militao and Eduardo Camavinga expected to start in the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
The result was a dull game against the side third from bottom of La Liga, which was decided by a shot from Marco Asensio, who again proved his value. The bad news for Madrid was a possible injury to Camavinga in the closing minutes, which makes him a doubt for next week’s key game, a Xinhua report said.

Madrid, Feb 2 (Ians) The second half of La Liga season gets underway this weekend as the fixture pile up continues in Spain.
Athletic Bilbao and Cadiz get the weekend underway on Friday night, with the home side looking for their first league win of 2023. Athletic also need to start scoring goals after having found the net just once in their five league matches since the start of the year.
The fact Cadiz won 1-0 on their last two visits to the San Mames Stadium could be a worry to the home side.
Espanyol’s recovery suffered a setback when they lost to Almeria last weekend, but Diego Martinez’s side has a chance to get back on track against a tough Osasuna. As always, Joselu will be the main threat for Espanyol, having scored 11 of their 23 league goals this season, although home fans will be keen to see some of...

Madrid (Spain), Jan 30 (Ians) La Liga has reached the midway point of the season with leader Fc Barcelona five points clear of Real Madrid and a tight battle at the bottom of the table.
Here are the four things we learned this weekend in Spain:
Barca Still Need Lewandowski Back
Fc Barcelona won 1-0 away to Girona on Saturday and extended their lead to five points over Real Madrid at the top of the table, but it was another disappointing display from Xavi Hernandez’s side.
The win comes after they scraped past Real Sociedad 1-0 in the Copa del Rey and only beat Getafe 1-0 in La Liga. Although Robert Lewandowski played in the cup game, he missed the league match against Getafe and a 1-0 win against Atletico Madrid earlier this month, reports the news agency Xinhua.

Madrid, Jan 26 (Ians) The La Liga season reaches its midway point in Spain this weekend, with several clubs involved in the Copa del Rey knockout tournament, facing a pile-up of fixtures in a non-stop beginning to the year.
League leaders Fc Barcelona face a short trip to play Girona, just three days after booking their place in the semifinals of the Cup with a 1-0 win at home to Real Sociedad.
Midfielder Pedri is a slight doubt for the game with a muscle problem that saw him forced off on Wednesday and with another league match against Betis next week. Barca coach Xavi Hernandez may not risk such a key player.
Ferran Torres is available again after suspension, but Robert Lewandowski is out as he serves the last game of a three-match ban.

Berlin, Aug 22 (Ians) Robert Lewandowski opened his account for Barcelona after just 44 seconds in a 4-1 victory against Real Sociedad as part of a brace to celebrate his birthday.
Aleksander Isak wasted no time in equalising for the hosts, who forced Marc Andre Ter Stegen into some fine saves and saw a second-half goal ruled out for offside, reports Dpa. Ansu Fati provided the inspiration to end Barcelona’s three-game streak without a win, coming off the bench to provide two assists in six minutes — Ousmane Dembele and Lewandowski the beneficiaries.
The Spaniard then added his name to the scoresheet after Lewandowski returned the favour, coolly slotting home to ensure all three points would come to Catalonia.
Barcelona’s barren streak of 360 minutes without a goal came to an abrupt end, Lewandowski steering home after Alejandro Balde led a counter-attack for the visitors to celebrate his birthday with his first La Liga goal.

There’s no greater feeling in Football Manager than stumbling across a premium player with a bargain bin price. Nifty negotiations can save you millions in the long run, but there are also times when transfers just seem ‘meant to be’ as the player you’re after has a handy minimum release clause in their contract.
There have been some classic pickups in recent years, with one of the best deals coming in the form of Isco for just £17.5m. That’s daylight robbery for a midfielder who would grow into one of the best in the world.
It’s always an exciting time rooting around for release clauses, but to make your life a whole lot easier, here are some of the best clauses you should be looking to exploit for a variety of budgets, whether you’re looking for a solid backup or a top quality megastar.

Well that all escalated very quickly. No sooner had Newcastle United resurfaced for the second half with the scores all level – after a very industrial, yet classy first period where they even took the lead – they were 4-1 down and out of the game.
Five goals from Sergio Aguero swayed the tide in Manchester City’s favour after United, rather sickeningly after what happened in the second half, could have easily been a few goals up in the first half.
New signing Aleksandar Mitrovic – who opened the scoring with a stooping header early on after great work from Kevin Mbabu and Georginio Wijnaldum – could have had a first half treble after a tap in was wrongly ruled out for offside, before a glorious chance save by the toe-end of Joe Hart thwarted him once again.
Those misses cost United as City equalised in the moments leading up to half time.

It’s nearly here. FIFA 16 is ready for release towards the end of September, and just to whet your appetite, you can now try out the hotly-anticipated demo version of the game.
Alongside the demo though, game-makers EA Sports have recently confirmed player ratings for a host of clubs in the new game. The list includes the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain and European champions Barcelona.
Each outfit boasts a stream of world-class talent, and even before the main release of FIFA 16 you’re able to test the game out – with the aforementioned clubs – in the demo.
But this article will bring you a selection of those confirmed ratings. Here, we focus on Premier League powerhouses Manchester City, who saw their title challenge fall short last season. They’ve played themselves in to the status as championship favourites recently though, after...

All eyes were on Raheem Sterling as Manchester City travelled to the Hawthorns but it was the familiar talent of Yaya Toure that inspired the away side to a dominate victory.
The Ivorian’s shot after just nine minutes got Manuel Pellegrini’s side off to a roaring start as it glanced off David Silva and trundled past Boaz Myhill.
Fifteen minutes later and the 32-year-old had grabbed his second, nonchalantly curling a shot into the top corner to extend City’s lead.
Skipper, Vincent Kompany put the game out of the Baggies reach and headed in from a corner as City delivered an early statement of Premier League title intent.
Debutant Raheem Sterling missed the chance to score on his debut after breaking clear on goal only to see his shot saved by Myhill.

You have already clicked on Eden Hazard, he’s already warming up and he will undoubtedly stay in your midfield until May. But who should line up alongside the Fantasy Football serial points scorer? Well, you need to be crafty and concoct a perfect blend of bargains mixed with a significant portion of first-class talent in order to perform consistently all season.
The likes of Eden Hazard, Alexis Sanchez and David Silva (only one of them makes this list) are what I like to call risk-free captain material. Essentially, a reliable pair of hands who regardless of their opposition can bring home the big points. It’s borderline impossible to select all three and still maintain a formidable balance across all areas of the pitch therefore you must look further afield and inspect every corner of the Premier League’s dressing rooms during your quest to find the next Nacer Chadli.

You get two options when it comes to picking defenders for your fantasy football team. Option one (which I selected last season) is to fill it with plucky, affordable shot-blockers who can hopefully take penalty kicks or deliver an outrageously precise delivery into the box.
These guys aren’t going to make your team look pretty, they’re probably going to don the yellow of Norwich City or the black and red stripes of Bournemouth but the acquirement of these 4.0 million men can be crucial. Why? Well, you can now throw your fun tokens Jordan Belfort-style at the midfield. I’m talking the big boys, Eden Hazard, Alexis Sanchez and David Silva are now realistic purchases and all because you have got Michael Turner standing behind them.
Option two (which I should have selected last season) is to pack your back four...

16-year-old Cameron Humphreys started for Manchester City last Friday as Manuel Pellegrini’s side faced Real Madrid. He astonishingly walked out of the McG cricket ground in Melbourne alongside Yaya Toure, David Silva and Raheem Sterling but perhaps more amazingly was that he was then expected to mark Madrid’s fearsome front-line of Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
The Citizens were comfortably beaten 4-1 but the England U17 International was no more at fault than experienced defenders Bakary Sagna and Aleksandar Kolarov. It’s clear that Pellegrini rates Humphrey’s highly and it’s likely he would like to sign him up when his two year scholarship at Man City finishes at end of the 2015-16 campaign.
Unfortunately for the City boss he will have to think quicker as there are a few other Premier League wilder-beasts circulating around the Etihad with a pen...

You could say that it’s about time Arda Turan got his big break but that would be unfair on Atletico Madrid. The Turkish international made 127 appearances for the Rojiblancos and his trophy cabinet isn’t exactly bare. More importantly, during his four years in the Spanish capital he received a priceless education from Diego Simeone that made his application to the Barcelona-school-of-midfield-brilliance stand out above the rest.
Turan has developed from a fine playmaker into a world beater and one now deserving of playing at football’s highest level. His dribbling, pressing, energy and vision has been so finely tuned by Simeone that he will seamlessly slot into Luis Enrique’s like-minded midfield.
The 28-year-old’s versatility across the midfield offers Enrique a number of options. Barcelona’s 4-3-3 currently plays to the strengths of their deadly front three strikers, Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Profligate Premier League champions Manchester City have recently tied most of their biggest stars down to new contracts, with captain Vincent Kompany and midfield duo David Silva and Samir Nasri earning bumper new deals. When you put their wages together, the trio take home a combined £520,000-a-week.
Welcome to the wacky world of the Premiership where stars are awarded with heaps of cash for the pleasure of kicking around a bag of air once every weekend (or twice a week if they’re in the Champions League, the poor souls). England’s topflight clubs pay recession-defying, eye-watering figures to their biggest stars, with the division’s biggest earner picking up a pay-packet that could probably rescue a third world country from poverty twice over.

As the end of the summer transfer window edges ever nearer, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is still looking to make one or two additions to his squad, as they prepare an assault on both the Premier League and Champions League in 2014/15.
With the likes of Dejan Lovren, Javier Manquillo and Alberto Moreno bought in to bolster the defence, and central midfield options boosted by the signings of Emre Can and Adam Lallana, the only real area the Northern Irishman is probably looking at strengthening now is wide areas and up front.
According to SkyBet, the Reds are now 10/11 favourites to sign Manchester City utility man James Milner, who invariably occupies a wide attacking role but can also flourish in central midfield or at full-back. Manchester City have spent hundreds of millions of pounds on transfers since Sheikh Mansour and his Abu Dhabi United Group’s multi-million pound takeover of the club in 2008, with over £1 billion being spent within the first three years of ownership alone, according to reports.
Money has been no object where the middle east private equity company are concerned and they wasted no time in making their financial muscle known with the 2009 summer transfer window ending with City as the biggest spenders in the Premier League, bringing in the likes of Gareth Barry, Carlos Tevez, Roque Santa Cruz, Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, and Joleon Lescott.

Ever since the Abu Dhabi United Group’s £200 million buyout of the club in 2008, Manchester City have been one of the Premier League’s most active sides in subsequent transfer windows, with £300 million being spent on new players in the first three years of the new regime alone.
The likes of Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, Carlos Tevez and David Silva have been brought in to spearhead the Citizen’s ground-breaking ascent to the top of the English game in recent years, as the Sky Blues have dramatically transformed from midtable also-rans to Premier League champions.
Money has not been an object in persuading some of the world’s best footballers to join the Etihad revolution, but not every transfer City have made in the last six years has been successful, and some very strange decisions indeed have been made by the top brass at Etihad Stadium.

It doesn’t really surprise us when the likes of Luis Suarez, Sergio Aguero or Robin Van Persie score a world class goal or grab a hat-trick in the Premier League. It doesn’t really surprise us when the likes of David Silva, Aaron Ramsey or Juan Mata slot a perfectly weighted through-ball to assist one of these goals. It doesn’t really surprise us when the likes of Yaya Toure, Steven Gerrard or Eden Hazard produce that moment of magic to change a game.
But which players are capable of exerting their own special influence on a game, yet go largely unnoticed in comparison? Which players are perhaps not so well-known or recognised, yet are equally important to their clubs?

Edin Dzeko continued his fine goal scoring form as Manchester City moved within touching distance of their second Premier League title in three seasons.
During an initially frustrating night for City, all their goals came in the second half, Dzeko netting twice, with Stevan Jovetic and Yaya Toure getting in on the act to bring up 100 league goals for the home side.
Manuel Pellegrini’s team dominated possession throughout the encounter and were worthy winners in the end, despite a spirited defensive performance from Villa.
The victory means that City can seal the Premier League title with victory over West Ham on Sunday, although given their superior goal difference a draw should be enough.
City went into the match having made two changes from the side that beat Everton on Saturday, David Silva and Aleksander Kolarov replacing Gael Clichy and the injured Sergio Aguero.

Branizlav Ivanovic’s long-ranged drive ensured Manchester City’s 100% home record ended as Chelsea moved joint-second after a pulsating encounter at Etihad Stadium.
City started the brightest of the two and had a blizzard of chances in the opening first-half but were made to pay for their wastefulness.
Alvaro Negredo burst into the Chelsea box early on but could only blaze over, while Yaya Toure was presented with a tap-in but could not connect with Aleksander Kolarov’s cross.
Toure again missed a good opportunity after some good work down the left from Jesus Navas but his first-time looping shot arched just over Petr Cech’s crossbar after 10 minutes.
Yet David Silva had the best chance for City in the first-half when the marauding Toure bullied his way into Chelsea’s box, his pass across the face of goal finding Silva, who spliced wide.

In Part One we talked about how Christopher Payne decided to get into small press publishing. His first couple of years involved new authors whose writing he liked. But he realized he needed some well-known name value in his authors if his company was going to grow and begin selling great enough numbers of books to be self-sustaining. But "names" in horror are not the same as names in general literature.
By "well-known" where do you put that criteria?
Granted. Definitely mid-tier or low-end mid-tier as far as sales. But in 2013 we're working with Jonathan Maberry and some others. Now you take that into 2014 and you have a situation where I had to close down submissions because I can't take any more than I already had. 2014 is signed, full, and done. It's an entirely different looking company. It seems to have evolved every year. We're growing so fast.

Alvaro Negredo hit a hat-trick as Manchester City steamrollered hapless West Ham in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final at the Etihad. Yaya Toure and Edin Dzeko with two were also on target as Manuel Pellegrini’s team got this tie won at halfway.
Hammers boss Sam Allardyce handed on-loan defender Roger Johnson his debut straight away, but his back four was breached a dozen minutes in. Negredo guided a precise first-time volley into the bottom corner from Toure’s lofted through-ball after getting between the centre halves.

Adrian in the visiting goal then parried a David Silva effort and later tipped behind from Samir Nasri. City doubled their lead and Negredo his tally on 25 minutes. The Spaniard applied an emphatic finish, running between the West Ham centre backs again, following an exchange with strike partner Dzeko.

Manchester City have only lost one of their last 15 meetings with West Ham as Manuel Pellegrini’s team entertain the East Londoners at the Etihad in the Capital One Cup semi-final.
Jack Collison scored a second half winner for the Hammers at Upton Park in March 2009, but that is the only victory they’ve recorded over City since back-to-back wins in 2006. Sam Allardyce remains short of striking options, so West Ham fans shall fondly remember Dean Ashton’s brace during an Fa Cup run to the final.
The Hammers are not much better off defensively either and come into this two-legged tie off the back of four defeats in their last five. Big Sam chose the Fa Cup third round tie at Nottingham Forest to blood youngsters en masse – a move that resulted in a 5-0 thumping.

Championship team Blackburn Rovers caused the first shock of Fa Cup third round weekend when they held 2011 winners Manchester City at Ewood Park. Skipper Scott Dann earned a replay for Gary Bowyer’s side by cancelling out an Alvaro Negeredo goal.
Both strikes came from corners and now Manuel Pellegrini has yet another midweek game to plan for in January on top of two Capital One Cup semi-final legs with West Ham. City had Belgian defender Dedryck Boyata sent off at Blackburn for two bookings.
Rovers boss Bowyer handed ex-England goalie Paul Robinson his first start since December 2012 after a troublesome back problem and career-threatening blood clot on his lung. Top scorer Jordan Rhodes dropped to the bench prompting fears from home fans he would be sold.
D. J. Campbell also made way as Blackburn made three changes from their away win over Leeds.

Blackburn Rovers have never beaten Northwest rivals Manchester City since the Etihad outfit was taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008. These two sides, both former Premier League champions, will face one another in the opening game of Fa Cup third round weekend.
Bankrolled by Arab billions, City boast a recent record of six wins and three draws against Rovers. Prior to that, Blackburn managed five successive victories in this fixture – including their last meeting in the world’s oldest knockout football competition.

South African striker Benni McCarthy scored the only goal the following September when Blackburn last won this encounter.

Manchester City have temporarily gone top of the Premier League table with a 3-2 victory at Swansea. Fernandinho, Yaya Toure and Aleksandar Kolarov were all on target for Manuel Pellegrini’s team in wet Wales in this win despite a Wilfried Bony brace.
Swans manager Michael Laudrup made two changes to the XI that drew at Aston Villa. Goalscorer Roland Lamah and Dwight Tiendalli dropped to the bench as Angel Rangel and Wayne Routledge returned.
City coach Manuel Pellegrini meanwhile brought Samir Nasri, Alvaro Negredo and Yaya Toure back after resting the trio for the narrow home win over Crystal Palace. Aleksandar Kolarov and Pablo Zabaleta came into the fullback berths too. Dedryck Boayata, Gael Clicy, Javi Garcia, James Milner and David Silva dropped out.

A packed Etihad crowd was treated to nine goals as Manchester City hit Arsenal for six. Sergio Aguero, restored to the City line-up by Manuel Pellegrini, got the ball running before later being subbed as a precaution.
Theo Walcott then netted a deflected equalizer, but the other City striker Alvaro Negredo restored the hosts to a half time lead. Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho bagged a brace after the break with David Silva’s close range finish sandwiched between them.
Gunners winger Walcott also pulled on back as the scoreline changed as follows: 3-1, 3-2, 4-2, 5-2. Arsene Wenger’s Premier League leaders saw their advantage over City cut to three points despite a stoppage time consolation from Per Mertesacker.
Yaya Toure rounded the scoring off by converting a penalty at the death. Arsenal were not without casualties either. Defender Laurent Koscielny was stretchered off in the first half of this all-action encounter.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger conceded his side’s crushing 6-3 defeat to Manchester City was “difficult to swallow” as his side missed the opportunity to move 8 points clear at the top of the Premier League.
The Gunners could have asserted control at the top and would have been 9 points clear of their hosts with a win, but goals from Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, David Silva, Yaya Toure and a brace from Fernandinho consigned them to a damning defeat.
The frustrated Arsenal boss said in his post-match press interview:
“We had an opportunity to put Manchester City at 9 points [adrift] and they are three [behind] tonight, so, that’s very difficult to swallow because they [City] weren’t unbeatable today.”
The Gunners scored three times with Theo Walcott helping himself to a double and Per Mertesacker heading in late on, but even that wasn’t enough to stop a rampant City,...

Manchester City put six past Arsenal in a high-octane encounter to continue their undefeated run at home and move to within three points of the Premier League leaders.
Theo Walcott scored twice to give the visitors a chance and Per Mertesacker headed a third, but goals from Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, David Silva, Yaya Toure and a brace from Fernandinho blew Arsene Wenger’s side away.
The Gunners could have opened an eight-point lead at the top of the table this evening but that never looked likely as it took Aguero just 14 minutes to break the deadlock, firing in from close range following Martin Demichelis’ headed flick-on.
Walcott levelled the scores when his shot into the ground deceived Demichelis and Costel Pantilimon 15 minutes later but Negredo ensured the home side went into half time in front after stabbing in Pablo Zabaleta’s cross.

Manchester City engineered a bittersweet victory coming behind after conceding two early goals to upset Champions League favourites and holders Bayern Munich away at the Allianz Arena.
Chilean coach Manuel Pellegrini followed in Arsene Wenger’s footsteps as the second English side in 2013 to win at the German giants albeit in vain. The Gunners revival in March was not enough to keep them in the Champions League last term.
A 3-2 win for City on this final group stage matchday saw them failed to overhaul Bayern at the top of pool D as they came up a goal short.
Thomas Muller, so often the scourge of English teams, and Munich summer signing Mario Gotze helped themselves after poor defending by the visitors saw them make a nightmare start.
David Silva brought City back into it, however, leaving the deficit at just 2-1 at the break. Two goals...

Manchester City recovered from 2-0 down at the Allianz Arena to inflict a rare defeat on Champions League holders Bayern Munich, but still finished behind them in Group D.
James Milner netted the winner after David Silva and Aleksandar Kolarov’s penalty cancelled out Thomas Muller and Mario Gotze strikes.
City made a terrible start conceding on five minutes. Defender Dante picked out Muller with a lovely long ball which the German chested down as he ran infield and away from Kolarov. Joe Hart was swiftly beaten by a low strike across him.
Bayern continued to build on their lead with Brazil’s Dante nodding a Toni Kroos free kick straight at England and City stopper Hart. Ballon d’Or nominee Franck Ribery won a corner with Joleon Lescott putting in a very shaky display in defence.
From that set piece hosts Munich doubled their lead through Gotze 12 minutes in.

Manchester City will have to cause an unlikely upset and affect a three-goal swing on hosts Bayern Munich to top Champions League Group D.
Both sides have already guaranteed their places in the knockout stages ahead of this clash. Munich need a point to clinch top spot, but boast a fearsome and strong home record.
City lost their only previous visit to the Allianz Arena 2-0 in September 2011 with Mario Gomez bagging a first half brace. Manuel Pellegrini’s team were comprehensively beaten at home by Bayern on matchday two this term with supporting trio Franck Ribery, Thomas Muller and Arjen Robben all on target.
Team News
Munich manager Pep Guardiola may field fringe players for this dead rubber encounter, but may also be tempted to name the same XI that put seven past Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga at the weekend.

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany has resumed training today after picking up a thigh injury against Everton last month.
The 27-year-old Belgium centre back has missed six weeks of action – a total of eight club games – since limping off during the 3-1 home win on 5 October. City have keenly felt Kompany’s absence in away matches after slumping to recent Premier League defeats at Chelsea and Sunderland.
Manuel Pellegrini saw his team maintain their devastating home form without the club captain, however. City have scored 18 goals in their last three matches at the Etihad Stadium in all competitions – including seven and six without reply against Norwich and Tottenham Hotspur.
An injury-hit campaign has restricted Kompany to just six appearances for City so far this term. He missed three matches after coming off during the first game of the season against Newcastle United with a groin problem.
