Instead of the usual confrontation between Joker and Batman, the film focused on exploring Joker’s psychological deterioration in a crime-ridden Gotham City.

Warner Bros. Releases ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ Trailer at CinemaCon: “We Cast Gaga Because She’s Magic”
Like it was expected the first trailer for ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ was released on this year’s CinemaCon during Warner. Bros. presentation. The trailer features Arthur and Harley falling in love, both with worsening mental health conditions. They want to escape together and they engage in various musical performances along the way, so it’s pretty clear, and this is undeniable proof that the movie will indeed be a musical. You can check out the trailer below:
Todd Phillips explained that, even though prior reports were saying that ‘Joker’ was supposed to be a standalone movie, there were always talks to make a sequel:
Joaquin and I, while we were shooting the movie, always talked about making a sequel. We were never really serious and we also didn’t want to jinx the movie. When the movie became such a big success and Joaquin and I were talking through the pandemic…...

The first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux brings together unites Oscar winners Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga for one of the more intriguing entries of the 2024 theatrical calendar.
Warner Bros. unveiled the look at CinemaCon, where Joker 2 is among the top titles theater owners were curious for a glimpse at — and for good reason. It’s a sequel to a $1 billion hit that earned Phoenix an Oscar, but is also taking a left turn by entering the musical genre.
But director Todd Phillips noted that in some ways it’s not all that different from the first, which also had music as a key element.
“We never talked about it like that,” said Phillips when asked if it was a musical. “I like to say it’s a movie where music is an essential element. To me, that doesn’t veer to far from the first film.” In the first film,...

The makers of the upcoming Hollywood film ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’, which stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, dropped the film’s first official poster on Tuesday.
The poster shows the lead pair engaged in an intimate dancing pose with their eyes closed. In the poster, Joaquin’s character of Joker holds Lady Gaga in his arms as they wear the signature Joker makeup.
While the couple features on the left side of the frame, the spotlight shines on them from the upper right of the frame lending a shade of Cyan to the frame. The visual designer has made good use of the negative space as the poster seems quite balanced in terms of the frame aesthetics and the geometry.
The makers also notified about the trailer release of the film, as they wrote in the caption, “The world is a stage. Trailer April 9. #JokerMovie”.

The movie ‘Joker’ (2019) was initially intended as a standalone film without sequels. However, Warner Bros. had plans for it to kickstart DC Black, a series of darker, more experimental films separate from the DC Extended Universe. Director Todd Phillips expressed interest in a sequel despite the original plan. By November 2019, the sequel was confirmed to be in development. In 2023, Gunn confirmed that ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ would not be part of the mainline Dcu; instead, it would be released under the ‘Elseworlds’ label, aligning with Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ franchise.
Early in development, it was revealed that ‘Joker 2’ would be a musical, which garnered mixed reactions from fans. Recently, it’s been reported that the movie will feature around 15 covers of well-known songs, including ‘That’s Entertainment’ from the 1953 musical ‘The Band Wagon’, famously associated with Judy Garland. There’s also talk of including original songs. Details about the composers and singers remain unknown,...

“Joker” is nothing but a comedy, and the return of Joaquin Phoenix as “Batman” baddie Arthur Fleck is more than highly anticipated.
Phoenix reprises the titular role after the 2019 origin story, directed by Todd Phillips and co-penned by Scott Silver (“The Fighter”). Phoenix landed a Best Actor Oscar win for Gotham City corruption story that used “King of Comedy” tendencies and “Taxi Driver” aesthetics to convey the rot and the bile behind the rise of mega-millionaire political family the Waynes, while would-be Batman, Bruce Wayne (Dante Pereira-Olson), grows up parentless. Add in a few nods to the fact that maybe Arthur (Phoenix) may be half-siblings with Bruce, and the twisted entanglement between Joker and Batman goes deeper than other typical DC superhero films.
“Joker” was the sixth highest-grossing film of 2019 after winning the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. The film made history as the first R-rated movie ever to gross over $1 billion worldwide.

But Warner Bros. had bigger plans; they wanted it to kick off DC Black, a series of darker, more experimental movies separate from the DC Extended Universe. Director Todd Phillips showed interest in making a sequel despite the original plan. By November 2019, the sequel was officially in development. In 2023, Gunn confirmed that ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ wouldn’t be part of the mainline Dcu; instead, it would be released under the ‘Elseworlds’ label, aligning with Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ franchise.
In the early stages of development, it was revealed that ‘Joker 2’ would be a musical—a bold decision, in my opinion. However, the fanbase had mixed reactions to this news. Now, industry insiders speaking to Variety provide details on the number of songs viewers can anticipate in the movie.

The upcoming film ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ will mostly be “a jukebox musical”.
The film is set to have at least 15 reinterpretations of “very well-known” songs.
One of the songs is said to be ‘That’s Entertainment’ from the 1953 musical ‘The Band Wagon’, reports ‘Variety’.
However, there is a door open for an original song (or two) to be added to the final version. Details regarding who would pen the tracks, or sing the numbers are unknown.
According to sources, Hildur Guonadottir, the Oscar-winning composer of the first ‘Joker’ film, is said to “infuse her distinctive, haunting (music) cues” into each number. Warner Bros declined to comment.
As per ‘Variety’, Jukebox musicals, known for featuring popular songs, often achieve box office success. Examples include ‘Mamma Mia’ and ‘Moulin Rouge’, the latter receiving eight Oscar nominations.

The Joker and Harley Quinn are set to serenade audiences in “Joker: Folie à Deux,” but if, and how many original songs will be included in the film, is a mystery.
Insiders privy to filming and early versions of Todd Phillips’ eagerly awaited sequel to “Joker” tell Variety the movie leans heavily towards being “mostly a jukebox musical,” as it integrates at least 15 reinterpretations of “very well-known” songs. One is said to be “That’s Entertainment” from the 1953 musical “The Band Wagon,” famously associated with Judy Garland. In 1992, comic book writer and artist Todd McFarlane created a new superhero character called Spawn. Five years later, director Mark A.Z. Dippé and screenwriter Alan B. McElroy brought Spawn to the screen in a PG-13 rated movie that didn’t go over well with a lot of fans. There were rumblings of a sequel for years after that, but nothing ever happened. Back around 2005, McFarlane announced he was going to make sure a new Spawn movie was going to be made, even if he had to produce, direct, and finance it himself. For nearly twenty years, he has been slowly pushing that project forward… but there is some level of hope that we might finally see the new Spawn sometime in 2025, so we figured we should put together a list of Everything We Know About the Spawn Reboot.

The one-man Joker: Folie À Deux promotional machine that is co-writer/director Todd Phillips marches onwards. He used Valentine's Day as an excuse to post some brand new, romantic images of Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn (or at least a version of her in Phillips' tweaked mythology). Have a scroll through the pics from Phillips' Instagram here:
Though the actual plot line for the movie remains a tightly guarded secret, we do know it'll pick up with Arthur still languishing in Arkham Asylum after the violent, chaotic events of the 2019 film. And that's presumably where he meets Harley, who in usual Batman/Joker lore is his ride-or-die (and partner in crime). Also in the cast for this one is a returning Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond, plus Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener and Jacob Lofland.

Joker: Folie à Deux director Todd Phillips shared a few Valentine’s Day special images featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga on his Instagram. Phillips shared a total of three images depicting the demented romance between Joker and Harley Quinn. Fans are very excited to see the pair, especially after Phoenix’s performance in the previous film and Gaga’s addition after her impressive roles in A Star is Born and House of Gucci.

Phillips confirmed the release date of the film as October 4, 2024. Interestingly, the critical reception of the first film, Joker, was polarizing, but audiences were more accepting of the film. It went on to gross $1.079 billion at the global box office.

Joker, will you be my Valentine? “Hoping your day is full of love,” wrote Joker 2 director Todd Phillips on Instagram, alongside new images of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in the upcoming sequel.
In one photo, Joaquin Phoenix is seen in his familiar burgundy suit and Joker clown makeup standing next to Lady Gaga in a floral blouse. The two sport matching blue eye makeup.
In the next, the unhinged duo are seen rubbing noses and making eyes at each other in a black and white close-up shot. Phoenix pokes his head through a window, or perhaps a jail cell?
The final new image sees Joker and Harley Quinn dancing on a rooftop in Gotham City, again in black and white, but this time in a wide shot. Phoenix dons a black tuxedo while Lady Gaga wears a long white evening gown. The pair embrace and gaze at each other.

Director Todd Phillips has taken to Instagram today to share a Joker: Folie à Deux Valentine’s Day treat: new romantic images of Harley Quinn and Joker.
The sequel brings Joker back to theaters on October 4, 2024.
Joaquin Phoenix is back in the Joker makeup, and he’ll be joined by Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn this round. Phillips captions the images of the pair in character on Instagram, “Hoping your day is full of love. 10.4.24.”
Still not much is known about the sequel to Phillips’ hit 2019 film, which amassed more than $1 billion at the global box office and earned 11 Academy Awards nominations, landing a Best Actor win for Phoenix and Best Original score for composer Hildur Guðnadóttir. The sequel is speculated to be a musical, and the romantic rooftop image below seems to support that.

Another year, another non-update about that Spawn movie that Blumhouse and Todd McFarlane can’t seem to figure out. It’s been a pattern with this project for the past several years that small bits of news are followed by long periods of silence, so don’t get too excited.

Greta Gerwig could be in line for a hattrick of Oscar nominations this year for Picture, Director, and Original Screenplay for her marvelous work on Warner Bros.’s “Barbie.” The multi-hyphenate co-wrote the movie with her partner, Noah Baumbach, while she brought to life the world of Barbie as a visionary helmer of one of the biggest films of the year. She has reaped three Oscar bids to date for two of her previous pictures. Let’s take a closer look at those races.
Her first bids came in 2018 for “Lady Bird,” which tells the story of a 17-year-old girl who comes of age in Sacramento, California, in 2002. Saoirse Ronan stars in the lead role while Timothée Chalamet, Lucas Hedges, and Laurie Metcalf also featured. “Lady Bird” was a critical darling, which meant that Gerwig enjoyed a good time at the Critics Choice Awards, securing nominations for both Original Screenplay and Director.

After Heath Ledger it was questioned whether or not we would ever even get another big-screen Joker again. Then Jared Leto came along and proved…hey maybe it isn’t so sacred after all. So enter The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips and eccentric actor, Joaquin Phoenix, both deadset on creating a character piece that would rival some of Hollywood’s best. Today on DC Revisited, we’re getting into all of the awkward laughs, Batman connections, and talk shows that end with a bang as we cover Todd Phillip’s Joker.
The idea of a standalone comic book movie isn’t exactly a new thing, with this being the norm prior to the MCU hitting it big with Iron Man. Sure you may get an odd spinoff here or there, but they hardly ever amounted to anything major. And once the MCU came along, interconnected universes became all the rage.

Although there’s no trailer for the sequel of the 2019 film ‘Joker’, titled Joker: Folie à Deux, we are pretty sure it will be an absolute masterpiece, not less than the first Joker. Why? Because the same team is in the making: Director Todd Phillips, and Dp Lawrence Sher. The camera is the mighty Arri Alexa 65, which is the same camera that shot Joker 1.

What, exactly, is going on with DC? The answer is, a lot.
After an aborted attempt by Zack Snyder to create a unified universe of characters and subsequent successful one-offs like “Joker” and “The Batman,” Warner Bros. has installed James Gunn and Peter Safran as the new co-CEOs of DC Films, under which they will build out an interconnected Dcu of films, TV shows and video games over the next eight to 10 years. But first, there are those other DC movies still to be released, which Gunn and Safran said will exist as part of something called “Elseworlds” — essentially not Dcu canon, in a separate universe, but with the potential for those characters to cross over into the unified Dcu in the future. Which is how Jason Momoa can still play Aquaman in the Dcu after this reboot.

Stefani Germanotta has juggled a couple of different names throughout her life: Stef, Mother Monster, and, of course, Lady Gaga. But when it came time to star as Harley Quinn in Todd Phillips’ sequel to Joker, she wanted to use a completely different alias, according to cinematographer Larry Sher.

What’s going on with Blumhouse’s Spawn movie, you may be wondering? It’s been a pattern with this project that small bits of news are followed by long periods of radio silence, so it’s no surprise that it’s been almost a year since we’ve gotten an update. Let’s recap.

Screenwriter Scott Silver, known for Joker, The Fighter, 8 Mile and The Finest Hours, has bought a mid-century modern house owned by socialite and philanthropist Jamie Tisch for $4.99 million.
The sale comes months after the home hit the market in March for initially $7 million and about 2.5 years after Tisch initially acquired the .25-acre property. The two-story house built and designed by William Porush and Richard Kearney in 1962 sits in the Hollywood Hills, just a few blocks above the Sunset Plaza.
According to Dirt, Tisch listed the house for approximately 2.5 times what she paid for it when it was put up for sale in June 2020. At the time, it was described as needing some updates.
Now, post renovations, the outlet reported that the 3,517-square-foot home’s main level includes an open-plan living room, dining area, kitchen, three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The primary suite also features its own private balcony deck.

A new film based on the Image Comics character Spawn has been in development hell for a long, long time. Spawn creator Todd McFarlane first announced that it was in the works back in 2007. Blumhouse Productions got involved in 2017. Jamie Foxx signed on to play Spawn in 2018. But apparently they’ve had a lot of difficulty figuring out the script. Last year, it was announced that a trio of writers – Scott Silver (Joker), Malcolm Spellman (Captain America: Brave New World), and Matthew Mixom (Yesterday Was Everything) – were working on it. Of course, the writers strike has put a stop to any progress that was being made… but in a new interview with ComicBook.com, Blumhouse founder Jason Blum has said he’s hoping Spawn will be released sometime in 2025.
Asked if there’s any hope for this new Spawn, Blum replied, “I would say you have a lot to hope for...

Once upon a time, "The Fighter" might have starred ... Eminem? Development on the film began in 2003, while Eminem was fresh off his lead role in "8 Mile," which won an Oscar that year for Best Original Song with "Lose Yourself." He had also achieved success the year before with "The Eminem Show," which won the Grammy for Best Rap Album and was the world's bestselling album of 2002. As he racked up the #1 album, song, and movie virtually simultaneously, Hollywood wanted to continue riding that success and working with Eminem. And it seems he was looking to channel his own inner Rocky, too.

First appearing in Batman #1 in the spring of 1940, the character of The Joker, created by Bob Kane, Bill Finger and Jerry Robinson, based off the 1928 silent film The Man Who Laughs, was originally meant to be a one off villain for the caped crusader who was going to die after his first appearance because Bill Finger thought that if there was a recurring villain,...

Todd Phillips is done Joker-ing around. At least from a production point of view: the director celebrated the wrap of filming on sequel Joker: Folie À Deux with an Instagram post featuring stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.
With Phillips now off to the edit "cave" (as he describes it), speculation can really start to bubble up as to what this sequel to the Oscar-winning original is actually about.
We do know that it'll be set partly in Arkham Asylum (where Phoenix's wannabe comedian-turned-psychopathic clown figure ended up at the close of the original) and that it'll feature a big musical element. Oh, and we're long past the point where anything is debating whether Gaga's playing Harley Quinn (traditionally the Joker's great love/victim) – we're all more intrigued to lean what spin Phillips has put on her and their dynamic.
With a script from the director and co-writer Scott Silver,...

Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the Best crew that the film industry has to offer. From top to bottom. Gonna crawl into a cave now (edit room) and put it all together.”

Los Angeles, April 3 (Ians) Singer-actress Lady Gaga is making use of her vocals for her role in ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’.
The 13-time Grammy Award winner has shown off her singing prowess as she filmed the movie in New York City, reports aceshowbiz.com.
Over the weekend, the 37-year-old was seen shooting scenes for the sequel at a familiar place. She was photographed at the same staircase where Joaquin Phoenix’s titular character boogied down in the 2019 film.
In pictures and videos taken by onlookers, Gaga was walking the iconic staircase connecting Shakespeare and Anderson avenues at West 167th Street in the Bronx. As she ascended the graffiti-laced staircase, she busted a few moves. When she almost reached the top of the staircase, she can be heard singing a few lines from Arthur Schwartz and Howard Dietz’s ‘That’s Entertainment’ and dancing before walking back down.

This weekend, director Todd Phillips is filming Joker: Folie à Deux outside of the New York State Supreme Court Building in Manhattan. The dramatic backdrop provided our first look at Lady Gaga fully dressed up as Harley Quinn.
Director Phillips previously shared a photo of Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker together, but the photo appears to be before Dr. Harleen Quinzel goes rogue and falls in love with her patient. In the new images from the shoot, Gaga, dressed in Harley Quinn’s classic red and black and adorned in clown makeup, steps out of the New York County Courthouse into a sea of police and onlookers.
The film reportedly picks up after the ending events of 2019’s Joker, in which the titular villain goes on a violent crusade without Gotham City, so it’d make sense if Gaga’s Harley Quinn was visiting her companion in court. Check...

Lady Gaga is not kidding around when it comes to bringing her Joker: Folie à Deux character to life.
The star was photographed Saturday during the New York City shoot for filmmaker Todd Phillips’ sequel to his Oscar-winning 2019 hit, Joker. Gaga is believed to be playing DC’s Harley Quinn, and the images, which offer the first look at the actress in costume and full makeup for her role, appear to back this up.
In the pics, Gaga gets an escort from Gotham police officers in a large crowd scene. Apparent protesters fill the surrounding area, some of whom hold signs with such messages as “Free Joker” and “Joker Marry Me.”
Phillips first offered a look at Gaga in character when he posted a close-up image to Instagram on Feb. 14 of the performer holding co-star Joaquin Phoenix’s face. “Happy Valentine’s Day,” the director captioned the post at the time.
