Donald Silverman, the notoriously adorable father of comedian Sarah Silverman, chatted about his love of his daughters in an appearance on HuffPost Live on Friday morning.
Many will remember that Mr. Silverman made headlines after publicly and forcefully rebuking a rabbi who denounced his daughter and her comedy in an open letter. The same sense of pride was displayed when chatting with HuffPost Live's Alicia Menendez as he shared stories about teaching Sarah how to swear at a young age, and made it clear that even as a child, she was just as funny and filthy as she is today.
"One day my mother came to the house. Sarah was about 3 years old," Silverman said. "She said, 'Sarah, Nana made your favorite brownies!' Sarah said, "Shove 'em up your ass, Nana!'"
His only advice for his daughters? "They better marry liberals," he said.

You may recall that we recently named Sarah Silverman's father "Dad of the Year" for his hilariously scathing response to the rabbi who attacked his daughter in an open letter. Donald Silverman's comments went so viral, in fact, the resulting traffic crashed the site where they were originally posted.
On Friday, Sarah Silverman appeared on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno", and she talked about the incident, her dad, and the political activism that provoked the rabbi's ire.

You wouldn't like Sarah Silverman's dad when he's angry. Neither would your servers.
Apparently, after Donald Silverman tore into on a scathing open letter to his comedian daughter from a Rabbi, the site hosting the letter, JewishPress.com, suffered a server crash from all the additional traffic. The site gave a tongue-in-cheek explanation of the problem on Tuesday in a post entitled Sarah Silverman Took Us Down:
Apparently nothing is more important in the world than Sarah Silverman and her uterus. As the entire world, and her father, have decided to visit (and revisit) the website to read and comment on Rabbi Rosenblatt’s article. Unfortunately, our server is having trouble keeping up with this unbelievable volume of traffic.
We apologize if you’re among those who haven’t been able to access the site (but then how are you reading this?), and congratulations, if you’ve made it to this point.

Sarah Silverman’s father, Donald, isn’t exactly taciturn. Take the comedian’s word for it: “My dad is pretty much fearless, which makes him a natural showman and public speaker. He’s always the one asked to make a toast or a speech,” she wrote in her 2010 memoir. Donald is also the source of his daughter’s famous potty mouth: “When I was three years old, I learned to swear from my father, but he taught me with every intention to do so. It was like he was teaching a ‘cursing as a second language’ course for one.” So...

Rabbi Yaakov Rosenblatt is apparently not a fan of Sarah Silverman. In fact, if his open letter to her can be taken on its face, he's not a fan in general of uppity women who haven't made marriage and baby-making a priority.
The letter, published on JewishPress.com, initially takes issue with Silverman's Let My People Vote campaign for its use of "biblical language," but his argument quickly shifts focus to the comedian's real crimes: focusing on her career rather than marrying and mothering her own "brood." Rosenblatt suggests that the reason for Silverman's political interests -- which he seems to think are new -- is the result of a hole in her life that can only be filled by traditional marriage and family.
I think you have latched on to politics because you are searching for something to build. There is only so much pulling down one can do without feeling utterly destructive.

On one carefree Sunday, shopping and eating in Malibu, I met a guy named Don Silverman who told me, when hearing I worked for Morris, that he was a producer and had a great idea for a TV movie. While by now running TV Movies for several years, I reluctantly accepted his treatment and stuffed it in a satchel I carried at the time. Back at the office I read it. "Pat and Roald" was the story of Oscar winning Patricia Neal, one of my favorite actresses from "Hud," "Face in a Crowd," "The Day...
